I've always wondered why its been so hard for me to lose weight .... like really whats the problem. In my mind I had managed to come up with many reasons why the cosmos were secretly plotting against me, AND my waistline! Can you say "conspiracy theory" (o_O raised eyebrow)? This of course led me straight down the rabbit hole into a mind numbing spiral of yo-yo diets, fat be-gone pills, extreme exercise routines, and even flat out starvation.

Yet deeper still down the abyss I went into an emotional decay of low self esteem, moral decay all the way down to depression and active thoughts of suicide. Imagine a simple enjoyable everyday task like shopping for a new shirt or pair of pants or the ever dreaded mirror glance before you hop in the shower becoming your utter most worst nightmare sending lighting bolts of shame and despair straight to your heart. These feelings then become the fuel that starts another weight loss journey sadly destined for failure before it begins. WHY?

Because more times than not there is more going on beside eating the wrong foods and eating too much of them. Likely the cause has some, if not all to do with some type of internal emotional dysfunction manifesting itself outwardly through poor lifestyle and eating habits. (Ron Williams calls this soul wounds and addresses it in full in his book "FAITH and FAT LOSS" a must read! Feelings, hurts, and pain from our past that we have tried to bury down deep in the hopes of maintaining a happy and productive life. BE CLEAR... even if you have managed to gain control of your thoughts and perceptions of these past events don't be fooled, their still there only now it is possible you have unknowingly developed certain coping mechanisms as it relates to food, diet, and exercise. The battle as always is not with the body OR THE BELLY! It's in our minds, tied in personal perception or how we see ourselves as it relates to those past hurts. It's all SELF ESTEEM and SELF AWARENESS. We are who we believe we are and more importantly who God created us to be. NOT WHAT OTHERS HAVE LIED AND SAID WE WERE AND MOST CERTAINLY NOT WHO THE DEVIL TRIES TO MAKE US THINK WE ARE, WHICH IS NOT GOOD ENOUGH! Not good enough to look your best and be your best and then inspire some one else to be there best. This is not an entry to tell you how to lose weight it is to tell you to get your mind right and then watch what happens! xoxoxo

One thing I have learned during this journey is that you CANNOT lose weight doing something you hate! You have to absolutely love your process and see your end goal in your vision everyday. :rant:If you hate drinking shakes why are you drinking shakes ...if you hate running 4 miles everyday why are you running 4 miles everyday lol... I mean if you loathe going to the gym:mad: ( As i do!) Gosh the smell the Ungodly disparity of the fat and the fit SMH its just not my thing so I would not have been successful losing weight in that environment, likewise find what you love to do and eat and make that your lifestyle reveal the real you by doing what you love and not feeling ashamed that it just your way! You cant follow someone elses process and expect their result to work for you it just doesn't work that way something bigger is at work with a true weight-loss transformation its the process of you becoming who you really are!View attachment 24181

"The process of becoming who you really are". I like that. I agree the method you choose to lose weight/get fit should be something you can happily sustain. Welcome to the forum Lady Mogul.

Another welcome :) I agree partly: some things you have to do for a while to start liking them. Especially if you only start them because you feel you HAVE to do them. But in the long run you´re absolutely right.

Hey guys thanks for the warm welcomes this is truly interesting as I begin to share my journey with others especially today as I consulted with a lot of clients struggling not only with their weight but with the health issues that have come as a results of weight gain. I feel quite strongly that the foods we are eating are literally killing us from the inside out!:( The ingredients and additives in the foods we are eating almost seem to be like habit forming drugs that alter not only our bodies but our minds for the bad. Bad habits are strongholds in the mind broken only by fasting and prayer. We have to stop be OK with being a CONSUMER of EVERYTHING and begin to make mindful choices by an act or our own will!

YES THIS JOURNEY TAKES DISCIPLINE! And some just aren't ready to make that shift but until they do nothing will change but things will only get worse. I visited a friend in ICU yesterday early 40s now sedated on a ventilator with heart and lungs issues because his weight just got out of control. Consulted with another client in fear of diabetes. Please know that no program or diet you try will work until you make a true commitment to a lifestyle change that compliments that product or program. People are literally crying out for help trapped inside of bodies that are not really there's and I'm going to do something about it. I'm going to tell the truth about why we allow our bodies to control us and keep us in prison. Its because we simply won't say NO!

Won't or can't?
Hey LaMaria,

I would say a strong Won't ...lol sorry to laugh but can't indicates that something is preventing the person or holding them against there will for lack of a better illustration. But truly deep down we become married to those bad habits and quite comfortable in the temporary gratification it offers but at the end of the day it's a choice that either you WILL or WON'T make. What are your thoughts?

My main thought is that calling people weak for not changing is unhelpful. Food is tied to so many things (physically, psychologically and socially) and our weight influences other people's perception of us so profoundly that I think it's not quite as simple as you make it sound. Unless, perhaps, you just want to lose ten pounds after the holidays.
Food comforts our souls much more than our tongues. A layer of fat can make us all but invisible to a certain kind of looks. Being overweight can give us an excuse to not go after our goals yet (and thus not run the possible risk of discovering they're unattainable).
I know how to lose weight. It's easy. I enjoy exercise, I really like fruit and vegetables, I find greasy food unappealing and I have to trick my body in order to stomach even moderate-sized portions. And yet I manage to binge on food I don't even really like so regularly that I keep regaining the weight I lose.

Your poll at the top of this post misses the point by a hair. Losing weight is 80% diet (the rest is exercise in my book). But your brain determines what you WANT to eat. And as long as I have to battle my brain with every meal I haven't got a chance in the long run.

Your thoughts?

LaMaria,

Wonderful post!
Respectfully, I did not anywhere in my post call anyone weak... but I am sure after reading my post it will reveal a weakness in most that struggle as I did for so many years with as you stated those physical, psychological, and social influences. Which in disguise are themselves the weakness that to us present themselves as the MASTER we "feed" into. LITERALLY! To conquer ones eating issues you must first conquer your perception of the world around you and decide how much of an excuse are you going to continue to let these things be... i.e your Past , present, and future condition. Really i didn't lose the weight until I decided the WHY didn't matter anymore only the WHEN. And the time is ALWAYS NOW. LaMaria in regards to the poll how is losing weight 80% diet if you know how to diet and still binge and keep regaining the weight you loose?

Because binging is still diet. I can have the best possible mindset and still gain weight if it doesn't show in my diet. I assume that you meant that a good mindset will automatically produce healthier eating (which is usually the case) but I actually come across people who believe that a positive mindset will balance out a caloric surplus :D So I thought I'd make double sure.

"Weak" was my recap of how I understood your post, not a literal quote.

LaMaria!
I'm sorry did I hear you correctly "Binging is still diet".... Ummm... the last time I checked Binging was a Disorder. Soooo.. why are you binging?

"Diet" is just the stuff you eat. If we "go on a diet" we choose to follow a restrictive diet for a while. There is a thing called binge eating disorder, which is when you binge so much or so often it has a structural effect on your personal life, your ability to do your job or your health. Thankfully it´s not that bad in my case. Let me not fill your diary with my personal details; I was just engaging in your general great weight debate.
