The Diary of Ree.

So it begins.
Story up to date;
Up to the age of about 13/14 i was always naturally stick thin, like really thin, i ate whatever i wanted and never really worried about my weight.
Then i seemed to suddenly put weight on, and first noticed this at 16 when i weighed 10st. I'm only 5"3, so this made me pretty chubby.
I started going to gym and after about 4 months i got down to 8st 10 and felt great. But as this was my target weight, i began to stop dieting and exercising, coupled with the fact i had exams at school and since then i have just pilled it back on. Since then, several failed attempts at dieting and basically being lazy have meant my weight has hit 10st7, at 19.
But that's going to change. My target weight is about 125 pounds, about where i was before.
I attempt to get there by running twice a day, and eating healthily. Not a hard plan to write down, but as you all know, harder to get going.
I have now completed my running everyday for a week and am eating slightly healthier. I weighed for the first time this morning, so i don't know how much, if any, weight i have lost so far. Will keep this thread updated with losses/gains and general feelings.
Thanks for your time.:seeya:

Hey welcome to the forum!
I kind of have a similar story, I was always slim when I was younger then without realizing at about 15 I was nearly 13 stone! Then I lost it but it slowly creeped up to about 10 and a half again. I think the main thing I needed to realize is that it was a lifestyle change and I couldn't go back to my old ways
Good Luck, sounds like your doing really well so far!
Oh and I'm 19 aswell :)

Ree I admire your commitment to running TWICE a day!!! Are you a superhero disguised as a human being? I am also trying to lose by running, I used to run 6 mi a day then started a new job and the rest is history shall we say. I've gained about 15 lbs really quickly (over last 4 mths) and was always normal (whatever that means) for my size but now realizing as I get older I have to do more to stay the same-UUUUGGGHHH getting old sucks. Trying to get back into running at my old fitness level and let me tell you-it is hard. I can't hardly go a mile without stopping-very frustrating! I'm curious how much you run each time? If you keep this up your'e bound to be at your goal weight in no time. Good luck and keep going!

I go twice a day cos i take my dog who's pretty hyper and needs to run twice a day. In the morning i go to the fields, where she can run off lead and i can go 'cross country running' with a fair bit of walking too, for about 2 hours. In the afternoon i go with her, just for 30 mins constant jogging. I'm no fit-freak though, i don't run much faster than a jog, and need to break now and again. But hopefully that will change. It's pretty easy right now for me to dedicate a lot of time for this as i have a window between exams and getting a job later in the summer.

Hi Ree.

I think most people do the same thing you did - they think once they hit their goal weight, they can stop doing the things that got them there. I know I've done that any number of times. :)

The trick is to realize that this is a lifestyle change. The things that you do to become healthy are things that you should do the rest of your life - exercise, eat well, etc.

I look forward to following your journal! :)

Ree- I just got back from a 2.5 hr trail run with my dog (Lab, lots of energy). I want you to know that your post got me up and moving and now I feel like SUPERWOMAN!!!

Just know that no matter your struggles-YOU can inspire others!!!

thank you

Wow, Ree, welcome to the forums! I can't believe you're running 2 times a day, that's amazing.

I look forward to reading more about you're journey. :)

thankyou so much for your support everyone. Will be taking photos as i go, and posting them as soon as i have some progress to show.
At the moment i just feel a lot more energised and my legs are a lot less wobbly!

So a week has passed, and i feel great! I have stuck to my plan completely and have lost 3 pounds! Tonight i am going to an italian restaurant for my mums birthday, and i'm sure there will be lots of temptation with lovely food, but i'm going to try and be good!

This morning i found i had put on a pound, which doesn't bother me too much as i went to a restaurant last night, and did extrememly well considering all the food was oily and fattening.
I had; a selection of meats for starter (which i shared with the bf, and got him to eat most of it), small portion of spagetti bolognaise for main meal, and no pudding. I drank diet coke and water all night.
If i had not been on a diet, i would have easily had; oily breads and prawn cocktail to start, steak and chips for main, and a chocolate tart for pudding, washed down with at least 2 glasses of wine, full sugar coke and a baileys afterwards.

So all in all, i'm pretty happy. The best thing was, i had just as much fun watching what i was eating, this is definately going to be a lifestyle change for me.

:seeya: this always happens to me... i get really slim and get super tiny and then i stop exercising and dieting and think i can eat whatever i want. then before i know it, im back to the way i was. it most definitely is a lifestyle change, and i think thats my biggest challenge. to understand that this isnt "just" a "diet", but a way of living i need to get used to.

best of luck to you, i will most definitely be following. we are the same height and have a similar goal, so i look forward to reading your progress! :D

Good for you Ree. Eating out is the hardest thing to relearn, I think. There are some restaurants that I just don't go to any more becuase there's nothing on the menu that isn't thousands of calories. But also I've learned to eat 1/2 an entree rather than feeling like I have to finish the whole thing.

photos

So, a couple of photos, both i use as motivation photos. The first one is of me currently, taken about a month ago (about 150lbs), and the second is from about two years ago when i was at my goal weight(about 125lbs) first time round.

Will put up progress photos as i get a few more weeks down the line. It really is amazing to see what just 25lbs does to my figure.

Must admit, not feeling great today. I'm not giving up but it's just so hard to eat right when i still feel chubby. It's like it's not working. But i know it is, i just need to give it more time.
I'm big on excuses, that's my problem. I'll say to myself, 'go on have a bag of crisps, you went running today'. So far i haven't given in to any excuses, but i'm starting to realise that in time, i'll stop wanting my old comfort foods and won't have to worry about them again. Hopefully i'll see some real changes in my body over the next few weeks so that i have a new found inspiration.
I just need to keep thinking, a healthier lifestyle is going to make me happy for a hell of a lot longer than a cheeseburger will.

Ree - good for you. Hang in there. It's hard at first when you're not seeing a lot of changes.

One of the mind games I play with myself is the "tomorrow" game. I tell myself that I won't have chips today, but if I still want them tomorrow I can have them. For some reason that seems to make the cravings a little easier to deal with. Of course then tomorrow I do the same thing. :)

It doesn't always work, but mostly it helps me remember that food will always be there and I don't HAVE to eat something right now just because I want it.

KaraCooks -- that's a great philosophy!

I do that sometimes too. I have to remember it, because it's true. That way I can make it through the day/night, whatever, and then if I am dying for it, I'll deal with it -- later.

Taking things one step at a time is really key. Just focusing on the moment is easier to handle than trying to figure the whole thing out!

Ok, i knew i shouldn't really be weighing every day, but i have, and the pattern seems really weird, i'm sticking to everything, so why is my weight going up and down?

Because weight loss isn't linear.

Sometimes you're going to weight more because you may have had more salt that day and you are retaining water. It could be something like it's that time of the month or you haven't gone to the bathroom yet.

If you weigh yourself in the morning it's going to be a different weight in the evening.

That's why eventually you may want to consider just one weigh-in day, where you can see a trend over the long term, instead of daily.

The good news is that you started off at 10 st 7 and you're now at 10st 5! That's a two pound loss!

Thanks WineDeer, i'm now weighing weekly instead, and trying not to worry too much, as long as i keep on with my diet and exercise plan it should be alright.

Today i came to a slightly annoying realisation. I can run in rain, wind, snow, but not in blazing hot sun! Only ten minutes left me dizzy and sweating because of the heat, not my fitness levels. I didn't expect it to get so hot in north england. So i went swimming instead, and believe me, its just as tiring! But at least it's cool and refreshing at the same time. So i think its swimming for me until this heatwave goes away.
Also, i hit the 4 pound loss mark a few days ago, and am weighing tomorrow to try and hit a 5 pound loss, so all is good!
I already feel much more confident and eating right and exercising is much less of a chore now.
