Well, here I go - honesty time! :)

I'm gone a lot over some weekends, but I'm committing to keeping up with my weight loss journey here until I reach my goal, even if life keeps me away from the computer some days.

Mental to do list: Take a before pic!

Currently

BMI: 27.43
Calories needed to maintain current weight: 1817/day
(Object is obviously to stay well below that figure to lose weight.)

Progress report for yesterday:

Supplements: YES! (This habit's been tough for me to keep up with.)
Water: YES! (This habit's been tough for me to keep up with.)
Exercise: YES! (30 minute brisk/sweaty walk) (This habit's been tough for me to keep up with.)
Food/beverage calories: 1570
Saved 240 calories

I'm OK for the day, but would like to shave about 600-800 calories off instead of just 240. I imagine that some days I'll do better than that, and some days I'll do worse. I hope to balance out at the end of every month.

(BTW, I found the daily caloric calculator here: )

Over and out for today! ;)

Hey Barbie! Hopefully with keeping this diary you will be able to maintain your new habits! It only takes 21 days to make something a habit and one day to ruin it.... After 3 weeks it should be a piece of cake... but even b4 then it should be easier with a little self control!
Christina :)

Hey Barbie! Just stopping by to check on you! Looks like your doing great! Did you sign up for the challenge?

Christina

Hey there Barbie!!!
I read the posts in your newbie section...and just decided to write here instead of there since this will be your main posting area.
I cant tell you how excited I am for you and your new life. About a year ago I made a similar step. As heartbreaking as it was..the freedom from it all is even more empowering!!!!!
I am a big fan of Dr.Phil, Oprah..and the "Starting Over" series.....I finaly like who I am...and I am no loger "afraid" of things anymore...I am losing weight out of self love ..not self hate......and its all good!!!
Welcome to the family!!!

Hey Christina, I think you're right. Habits will be easier to form with this diary, and 21 days isn't too far off, right?!

Case in point -- I could have easily talked myself into NOT exercising last night, but I knew I had this BB to be accountable to, so I dove in and *got 'r done.* :D

An interesting point.... Why is it that I/we are more easily accountable to others and not ourselves? I'm used to making deals with myself and breaking them, but I won't do that to others. Silly silly!

Good morning, Christina!

Thanks for checking up on me.

No, I didn't sign up for the challenge because I don't want the pressure (yet, anyway). In the 3 instances where I lost 20-40 pounds before in my life, I did it each time by just *watching it*, not dieting. Sure, the weight came off slower, but I didn't feel deprived, I was able to totally blow it at times without feeling I failed, and I kept the weight off for years with each one.

This time, I'm using the public accountability factor to help me stay a bit more focused. So my weight loss should be a little faster this time, even without joining a challenge.

I'm open to joining another challenge at some other time, if/when I feel I'm ready to handle the added pressure I'd feel. You never know, as I get thinner and more energetic, a challenge may become just perfect for me.

I'll have to do more reading here and see how others are using the challenges, and how they feel about participating in them...

Keeping my options open,

11/17/05 - total 6 lbs. lost

Currently

BMI: 27.26
Calories needed to maintain current weight: 1812/day
(Object is obviously to stay well below that figure to lose weight.)

Progress report for yesterday:

Supplements: YES! (This habit's been tough for me to keep up with.)
Water: YES! (This habit's been tough for me to keep up with.)
Exercise: YES! (35 minute brisk/sweaty walk) (This habit's been tough for me to keep up with.)
Food/beverage calories: 1245
Saved 567 calories

It's amazing how many calories I save when I eat fish (which luckily for me, I love). I was able to have sour cream on my baked red potato for dinner - MMMMMM!

I also love salads of all kinds - when I don't have them, I crave them. So the only thing I would have done differently yesterday is eat my salad at dinner time FIRST. As it was, I got filled up with my fish w/dill & lemon pepper, small red potato w/sour cream, and grilled mushrooms & onions. I wasn't hungry for a salad after that, so I feel I was one veggie shy for yesterday.

I did have a homemade cornbeef stock/ cabbage soup with added potatoes, celery, carrots, & onions plus salad for lunch, so I DID get some veggies in, just not the full 5 fruits/veggies/per day we're supposed to have.

Now that I've written that... I think it would be in my best interest to add fruit to my morning or midmorning *to do* list (I'm not the biggest fruit fan, but realize how good they are for me, and morning might be easier for me to include them.)

Over and out for today!

Hey Barbie! Just stopping in to say hi! It looks like you are on the right road! You can do it I know you can. I am like you... when I have someone that I have to, I guess you can say "report" to, it makes it somewhat easier. And it is great to have someone to lean on because in my house I am the only one dealing with trying to lose weight. My husband is overweight but I honestly think he is okay with it. Most men don't care and he is one of them.

Anyway, I am glad that you found us! You will make lots of new friends here!

Oh, and I sent you a message so check your inbox!!

Welcome to the family!!!

Hi KC,

Thanks so much for your warm welcome. :)

YES, I got the freedom, but I also go a lot of CRAP that I didn't ask for (consciously, anyway)! Heehee!

I've come face to face with ME, since I chose to let go of all things dysfunctional. Yowee! I had no idea what was in store for me when I made my intention and started acting on it. Unbeknownst to me at the time, cleaning out my life included cleaning out a lot of my own garbage too, so the universe brought special people and situations into my life to help me do so (major PAIN - I'm still working on some forgiveness issues).

Now I feel like I'm starting over all over again, but in a much more enlightened and healthier state of mind and way.

It's funny that you mention Starting Over, Dr. Phil, and Oprah. Although I don't always watch, Dr. Phil has always been an inspiration to me. His First Wives Club that aired this week had me in tears.

Plus, I was blessed this summer when I discovered *Starting Over*. I watch that one religiously now, because I see myself in just about everyone on the show, and I can apply the lessons in one way or another to myself and my own life. It often has me in tears as well. (I can tell what my issues are by watching what triggers me.)

I can honestly say that since I don't just watch, but USE those programs to apply what I learn there in my own life, I'm am now in the process of reawakening again. Whew!

What a journey it's been... I know you understand. ;)

Whereabouts in CA are you? Is it warm year round where you live there?

Congrats on your weight loss so far!

I LOVE your green signature saying. Not only do I totaly agree with it...but I believe in it!!!

I too watched the Dr.phil show with the "first wives club"...How saddened I was that they felt they were nothing with out the men who left them. That the men" gave" them their identity. But then....when I saw it in their eyes the realization that they were strong...that they had self worth...and the strength in themselves to overcome it all......I was bawling!!!!!

Do you watch the "Starting Over" series that is going on right now?
I can identify with Jill...( weight and health thing issues)....Lisa...( needing to grow up) Everyone else I can take a little something from them and apply it to myself. This show has helped me sooo much!!!.....And I dont even have to pay for a therapist!!!
If you go to their website..they have it to where you can"start over"......You email your family and friends with your starting over goal...and then they become like your accountability partners. I plan on doing it.

I moved to California about 7 months ago...and boy was it a shock! Everything here is so fast paced..and I am from the south where the crickets sing in slow motion. LOL....And like the old song says....." It never rains in southern California".......About everyday here is beautiful. Thats why I would love to have a pool. The beach is only 30 minutes from me....but I have yet to conquer the LA. freeways....lol....but I Do love the Ocean.....water itself is so healing to me....

<<I LOVE your green signature saying. Not only do I totaly agree with it...but I believe in it!!!>>

Thanks! Yours is true as well (If you can shape it in your mind, you will find it in your life.) In fact, I believe that so much, I'm in the planning stages of a website to help people (and myself) *shape it in their minds* for a few minutes a day in order to create it in their life. It will deal with self worth, authenticity safety/security, and weight loss to start. It's kind of an immense project for me, but I hope to have it up and running before or in January. If I stay focused, I'll do it!

Me too! :)

<<Do you watch the "Starting Over" series that is going on right now?>>

Yep, EVERYDAY. It's so helpful to me that I NEVER miss it.

Same here.

Heehee - I'm keeping my family out of the accountability department. :p They're already very supportive in whatever I'm going through, whatever I accomplish. We are all easy communicators, so if they have different thoughts and ideas about things that I'm doing in my life, they let me know (especially my mom LOL). So I guess we've already got that thing going, sort of.

Oh, that sounds beautiful! My hubby and I are sun and water/lake/ocean worshippers. Water and sun likewise are very soothing and healing to us (See pic here!). We've made a goal together to find and move to a state (or even out of the country, you never know) where the climate is warm year round with lots of sun. We don't want to move just yet... hubby Rob has two boys that we have part time, almost 11 & 14... so it will be a few years before we feel free to go. In the meantime, we're looking and trying to decide which direction to head (we live in Ohio now). Anyway, that's one reason I asked about California, and except for the fast pace, it sounds perfect!

I love to roller skate. Are there roller blade parks around you? I'd kill for one of those around here!

Progress report for yesterday:

Supplements: YES! (This habit's getting easier for me to keep up with.)
Water: YES! (This habit's getting easier for me to keep up with.)
Exercise: No (planned day off - exercise 2, off 1) (This habit's been tough for me to keep up with.)
Food/beverage calories: 1605
Saved 207 calories

Hubby and I sort of splurged last night. At least I stayed under the wire! And I DID add fruit to my day in the morning, so that's a success for me too -- I feel I got all the fruits/veggies I need yesterday.

I'm leaving this afternoon on a little family trip which my husband will join me in on Saturday eve (2 hours away). Food/beverages is definitely going to be a challenge, as I'll be at my sister's place most of this time (who doesn't have the *right* kinds of foods in her house) painting her kitchen and bathroom.

I hope it doesn't offend her, but I'm packing a lot of my food and taking it with me. She's overweight too, so I think she'll understand.

Over and out for today - be back Monday...

Awww... you guys look so cute together!!! And girl, you are so tan!!! I love the beach! My family goes every year for a week and I love it! It is so relaxing to me to hear the ocean and to just feel the breeze!

Hope you have a great day!

Heehee - I cheated. Before going to Puerta Vallarta that early spring, I went to a tanning salon for almost a month. If I don't do that, even with sunscreen, I burn and can't be out in the sun much. And what fun is that in Mexico?!! :D

We go to a beach every year for a week in March or April. Last year, we went to the Dominican Republic. The beach there was beautiful (as is every beach we've been to in Mexico - Puerto Vallarta, Playa Del Carmen, & Cancun).

Right now, I've got about 10 pounds to go before I hit the weight you see in the picture (both bellies purposely cut off LOL). I hope to be a LOT lighter than even that by the time we go in spring 2006! Back to my wedding weight... (See pic - it's kinda dark, but you can see my face and neck are thinner)

Thanks for dropping in and have a great weekend!

Just wanted to pop in and say Hi, you look so pretty in your pictures by the way. Im so jealous you go on vacations..Wow sounds nice..LOL. Anyway hope you have a good day!!

Barbie,
You and your hubby are a great looking couple!!!!
Sound like you two have a lot of fun and enjoy each others company.
My sister and brother in law went to Cancun and their pics were sooo beautiful!!!!....My sister has the locals braid her hair and put beads in it.
The only bad thing was that it exposed parts of her scalp and she got sun burn there..lol
My fiance is from Guatemala. We hope to go there in the next year or two.
I would highly suggest moving to California if you love the sun and water.
You have the pacific ocean at your door..there are lakes and rivers around here also....The cost of living is pretty high.but its worth it...and there are alot of smaller cities around the la area that are not fast paced. San Marino is a really nice place....But if I had my choice I would move to Santa Monica.
There is all sorts of places you can roller blade. There is soooo much to do here.
When I was younger up until my early twenties......I lived in a bathing suit in the summer. If I had a pool I would spend all my days in it!!!.....But now...I need to lose alot of weight before I am TOTALLY comfortable being in a bathing suit. I love to lay out and feel the sun on my face..my back,,,...it makes me feel alive, sexy ....and younger!!!...lol

UGH... I'm back in here to confess...:p

Friday: 80% great
Saturday: 50% great
Sunday: We don't EVEN want to talk about this one! (I had a good and fun day, but NO discipline whatsoever!)
Monday: Heading back up again with about 65% great.

Traveling is obviously a hard time for me to get the exercise in and eating right. Definitely needs a lot of work and commitment.

And now, I'm going to spend all tomorrow cooking... and then Thanksgiving hits Thursday, and my birthday on Sunday. NOT a great week for weight loss. I'm planning on doing the best I can to hold steady.

I'm listening/programming myself for success every night all night (so it will absorb subconsciously as well as consciously) with a new CD I just bought (I'm only 2 nights in so far), so I expect more discipline as I march through time. :D

I hope everyone has a wonderful and loving Thanksgiving!

Thanks, Christinanva, I did! I went down to my sister's with paint clothes, and she put me to work in her bathroom. It got done & put all back together, and she LOVES it. So at least I accomplished SOMETHING, even if it wasn't weight loss! LOL

I know EXACTLY what you mean - me too! I REALLY have to find a way to get my butt in gear. I want to feel like that on my next trip, and I feel (and look) like a cow right now.:p

I started taking a natural supplement today that's supposed to help even when I screw up. If it works, I'll certainly let everyone know!
