The chocolate issue...

Ok, so I think I'm more or less able to eat healthily and avoid junk. But, my real hang up is chocolate. When I've tired to diet before Ive had major difficulties with it.

My most sucessful diet in the past included a bowl of low-fat chocolate cereal every evening and 4 squares of dairy milk on a Sunday. But I now feel that that that cereal is probably not very good for me.

When I've tired to give up chocolate completely I've lasted a matter of weeks (or sometimes days) and then binged badly. I don't want this to happen again either. I also know that trying to cut out specific foods completely can make me resentful of my eating regieme (can't spell) and therefore unhappy with it so I give up altogether.

Anyway, just wondering in what ways other people have managed chocolate (or whatever food they've found difficult) without going to extreems!

Thanks

Eat chocolate. Eat it every day.. but in moderation. Make sure to put your fruits and veggies first, but allow yourself no more than 200 calories of it per day. Measure cake, check the facts on the packages, just don't go over the 200 calorie limit and if you feel guilty for it, don't. It'll help you when you reach your goal. You won't have to go back to the way you used to eat, it'll already be in the way you've been eating in your diet.

Good luck and happy munching.

P.S Don't forget the fruits and veggies! Make them your first priority, and THEN have your chocolate.

If its REAL 100%(Or as close as possible) dark chocolate then go ahead and enjoy. Of course keep it in moderation but the Flavanols Monomers (Catechins) are anti-oxidants in dark chocolate, that have some simple health benefits.

Again, Moderation is key here.

Every one needs to cheat from time to time. Chocolate surely isn't the worst thing you could be doing so don't fret to much.

The best diet is one you can stick to for life. Cutting out completely what you love will not help your cause.

There's no such thing as 100% dark chocolate, that'd be cocoa powder. Dark chocolate that's 70% or more cocoa (baking or premium dark chocolate) is the healthiest, although by no means is it a make-or-break health food.

You are correct, though I am merely am suggesting one gets as close to a 100% as possible. :p Though i see i did not word it that way. I will correct it.

I keep the chocolate cravings at bay by having a small piece (around 10g/less than 0.5oz) of dark, organic chocolate every evening, when I'm sitting relaxing, or watching TV. I usually eat Green & Black's chocolate, which is expensive but sooo worth it, and I would guess it's as easy to get hold of in Ireland as in the UK. My favourite is the maya gold, which is spicy and rich, but they do loads of variations. And it's only around 50 calories for the amount I have.

I love chocolate , what gets me through is Hershey makes 100 calorie packs and I love some Ovaltine with skim milk.

Now all I want is strawberries dipped in chocolate...

My hardest food to overcome is cheesey poofs. Any puffed cheese really. Love it. And Muncho's I could eat a whole bag of muncho's in one sitting.

Just chipping in with a bloke's perspective. I still eat chocolate, both whilst losing weight and after. We buy 70% plus organic dark chocolate and keep it in the fridge. Its a reasonably healthy treat that just has to be had :)

I would say allow yourself some chocolate, but only buy the really superfine stuff. Above 70% cocoa is actually very bitter, I find. I had a couple of amazing chocolates on the weekend, and I let them slowly melt in my mouth. It was wonderful. I used to eat chocolate quickly and not really enjoy as much as it deserved.

I never ate chocolate before I started my lifestyle change.. Now it's a regular part of my meal plan... you can make anything fit if you want it...

I eat a piece of sugarless chocolate everyday. I would eat the real stuff but I am prediabetic so I avoid most sugars if I can help it.
