Chillens Family Run Day 2

Earlier in the evening my family and I had our second family run of the week! We didnt quite get two miles because my wife's legs started to cramp just passed a mile, and we decided to stop and walk back. We did manage to go passed the distance we went last time though!

We are now just passed two miles in our 22 mile journey (Her father was in the military for 22 1/2 years. And for those that dont know, my wife is running one mile (or more) for each year her father was in the service. He passed away January 13th)

See original post if you wish more details.

WE ROCK, this was fun.

Very Cool. It's always great to share your passion with people you love.

My wife wants me to start training her. She already eats well and is at a good weight, but she wants to be fit and feels she lost too much muscle mass as she got down to her goal weight.

It should be fun because she has a lot of natural stamina. Although she does no other exercise she can go out cycling or hiking with me and keep up pretty well.

My wife is a go-getter even with all of her physical ailments she was unfortunately given, she has a heart within her that defeats these limitations. There is no fitness sorrow, there is no fitness pain, and there is no anguish I can feel working toward my goal, that she hasnt felt ten times worse than I. Yet, she has self-confidence, has appropriate self-worth, strong self-esteem, and an attitude to wake up sleeping volcanoes.

We go on our 3rd run on wednesday, and we follow her lead with much encouragement.

She is my idol.

hey chillen are you familier with the "get shredded diet" ? where your cal intake should be 8-11 times your body weight in lbs it claims that over a 6-8 week period you can lose 0.5-1% of body fat per week.
example:

Bodyweight*
Calorie Intake

100 lbs
1000kcal (900-1100)

150 lbs
1500kcal (1350-1650)

200 lbs
2000kcal (1800-2200)

250 lbs
2500kcal (2250-2750)

300 lbs
3000kcal (2700-3300)

seems a little harsh:)

Personally I dont like servere calorie deficits. Especially a diet that brings calorie intake at or below the one's minimum bodily need. Speaking in terms of average norms, slow and methodical weight loss is the most healthy way to approach tissue loss. Personally I have never went below my "minimum" bodily need (which is just shy of 1700c per day, not counting activities of course). My purpose is to hold on to as much muscle as I can while facilitating a reduction in BF, and this can be done thoroughly with calorie deficit manipulations above the "minimum" along with fitness activity manipulations. Personally, I dont see a need to be at or below the minimum bodily need; this "can bring" in additional undesirable feedback from the body one wouldnt want to deal with, IMO. There are far too many diet and activity manipulations one can do to facilitate a larger deficit above the minimum, and not starve at the same time, to even barter the thought of eating below one's minimum in the normal sense.

My thoughts on calorie manipulations and fitness manipulations (based upon many books, and other information I have read) has served me extremely well, and is the cornerstone of my success. To a normal and healthy individial, the calorie is KING, the macronutrients can be the decision maker, and manipulation of activity is the friggen QUEEN. No doubt about it.

Correct diet rocks. Starving sucks.

Do you have a link to this "Shredded Diet?" I would like to read on it.

Hey Chillen,

I've been so damn busy with work lately I haven't had a chance to start a journal but I am popping in now and then to read this log.

I've lost enough weight that my wife is jealous and finally she is taking the initiative to work out. Lead by example is finally paying off for me almost 2 years later.

I just hope she sticks to it and it lasts longer than a few days.

I try to explain to her that she will feel much better and have more energy. Plus she is a nice workout partner.

I've been giving her lots of encouragement when she works out hoping to keep her going.

Hey Chillen,

I've been so damn busy with work lately I haven't had a chance to start a journal but I am popping in now and then to read this log.

I appreciate you reading the log. I sincerely do. I started the log in June 2007, just a few weeks after I joined the forum. I have my heart here, and I am sincere. Anytime you have a life burdon, stress, or problems within diet and fitness, if you want, feel free to post it here. While we are of course limited on what we can do, I will my absolute best to provide links, or other words of encouragement and advice accordingly.

If I can touch one person reading the forum that is having a bad day (even one reading as guests, and registered members not posting), and they stand up keep their diet, stay strong, stay the course and train, then I couldnt be more happier. THIS is what its about. I am not on a self serving quest, but attempting to try (however slight) to help others.

Its mastering the mental games with oneself, that is the essential element to ones success, really. And, for this, is the reason I created this thread.

Imprison your mind and you imprison yourself---Chillen

If people offer their help or wisdom as you go through life, accept it gratefully. You can learn much from those who have gone before you. But never be afraid or hesitant to step off the accepted path and head off in your own direction, if your heart tells you that it's the right way for you. Always believe that you will ultimately succeed at whatever you do, and never forget the value of persistence, discipline, determination, and the physical burdons in what they teach us. Thus I press on with this log.

Congratulations with the weight loss! I am glad that you inspired your wife to lose some healthy weight! Be by her side, assist her during the bad and good times, support her, encourage her to succeed! Do not turn your back when or if she makes mistakes or fails at something, this is when she needs your guidance the most. Work together as a team and be strong!

WELL DONE! You ROCK! :)

Best wishes to you.

May you succeed at everything you do in life. May you reach and exceed your goals.

February 13th, 2008: Video of the day: Dr. John Berardi Interview

Berardi Caught on Youtube

Gourmet Nutrition Makes Some Waves

(By Ryan Andrews)

I love real food.

I love tasty and simple ways to prepare real food.

Even more so, I love it when someone shows me how to prepare delicious recipes that are also great for me.

I guess this is why I love the new Gourmet Nutrition...it's a book with the express purpose of showing folks how to eat real, delicious, simply prepared, and healthy food.

And, apparently, A LOT of other folks beyond me like this book too.

Indeed, in the last 2 weeks, Dr JB has been invited, as a guest, on more than 15 TV and radio shows and has been interviewed by more than 10 more newspapers.

Yes, folks, that's 25 appearances in just 14 days. (When the guy sleeps, I'll never know.)

February 13th, 2008: For those interested in the views of Dr. Berardi:

How to transform your body with nutrition, immediately and permanently.
Get a lifetime of lessons learned in just 8 days with “the expert’s expert,”: (Dr. John Berardi)

"I want to live healthy. I want to eat better. I want to look better. In fact, I want to look great, better than I ever have before. I want to change. I have the desire. The question is: how!"

I can't tell you how many times I hear those sentiments.

You want to change your body, but you don't know how.

See, the irony is that with all these new fad diets and all this media bombardment about eating healthy, people are in worse shape than ever before. The message is getting lost in all the noise.

"So what do I do? How do I transform my body? How do I eat healthy, lose fat, and get in the best shape of my life?"
The lessons are out there. While everyone has focused on the differences among the experts, few look to the similarities -- to the timeless lessons, the simple, scientific and successful principles that will get you the body you never thought you could have.

So I wrote an 8 day email course to teach you just those lessons.

Here are just a few of the things you'll learn:

What "good nutrition" means, specifically; the simple reason why others have it wrong, and how you can get it right. I'll teach you 10 rules that cover everything you need to know.
How striving for dieting perfection is a recipe for failure, and how to include your favorite foods in your diet and still get the body you want. (There's a trick here, and I'll share it with you.)
The one thing that will absolutely prevent you from getting in shape. Believe me, it's preventing you right now. The good thing is that it can be fixed in an afternoon, and when fixed, can nearly guarantee your success.
In the course, I cover everything from exactly what to eat, when to eat it, what to buy and what to sell or trash; heck I even provide three online quizzes to show you exactly where you're going off track (and what to do about it).

So if you can blot out all the noise for a few days, I can show you all you need to know to start transforming your body, immediately and permanently.

"I'm with you -- now how do I sign up for the course?"

Precision Nutrition - 8 Day Body Transformation Course

(Dr. Berardi)

==========================================================

The brief 8 day course, just may teach someone something of value of diet and nutrition.

I posted this to the COL, in the event somone here can get some value out of the 8 day FREE information from a well known and respected person within diet and fitness.

Wish all of you the best.
