The big oak (Quercus) needs to drop some dead limbs!

Tonight's run mostly flat blacktop
1 hour
Avg. HR 141
peak 157
min 85
1 min recovery 17

I was happy to complete my first hour. Definitely an increase in running distances from the previous sessions. It will be nice to have a GPS to see what distances I make, but undoubtedly this is the most I've run in many years. The second half hour was only harder because my joints/legs hurt more, but I feel like I could maintain the aerobic heart range indefinitely. I'm sure I'd change my tune if I did anything much past my maximum of an hour and a half that I have managed so far, but at least I feel good enough to allow a bit of hubris. I'm the fittest 316 pounder I know!

Can't believe how much working out you're doing! I think you're right, you must be the fittest 316lb person ever! It's incredible. Makes me realise I don't have any excuses not to be trying to run/jog. You're such an inspiration, Q. Keep it up!

You're are definitely doing fantastic with your exercise. Very inspirational and motivational! Keep up the gret work! :)

An hour at 141 will burn some serious calories (well over 1000). Good job. Hopefully the joints will hold up.

Have training today, maybe I'll wear my HR monitor for it as I haven't done that for a personal training session in a while.

We can join a club: the people who are in much better shape than their weight would suggest club. I read a story once about 5'9" 265 pound guy who used to do triathlons.

Hey everybody! I want to express my sincerest thanks to everybody here. You guys make me push myself. I haven't had very good results so far with the weightloss since I've ramped up the activity and I think I would be totally discouraged by that by now if all of you weren't so supportive.

I came in about 500 calories under my target yesterday to compensate for earlier overeating a bit. I know the increased appetite is a effect of the increase in activity, but I'm hoping to adjust to this level of activity without increasing my calories so I can accelerate the weightloss a bit. I would really like to start seeing 2 pounds a week on a regular basis. This is my 3rd week of lifting and second week of running (I think) and my weight is the same as before I started lifting. I need to update my spreadsheet and get some perspective on things.

I agree that this is one of the best sources of encouragement and support that I've ever had. I'm so thankful that I found this site. I really don't know how I'd be doing if I hadn't.

I've heard it said that it can take a few weeks for your body to adjust to a new workout routine. Maybe that's what's happening to you? You're taking measurements right? Are you seeing any changes there? Don't give up. It'll pay off soon. :)

Q, I want you to know that I think you are doing tremendously well! I truly believe that there is MORE to what we all are trying to do than just move a needle on a scale. There are so many metrics we could be using to measure fitness and health, yet we all tend to focus on weight... or BMI.

You are eating better today than before. That makes you healthier.

You are doing cardio and strength workouts. That is making you healthier.

You are educating yourself all the time about subjects pertaining to your health. That, too, leads to your better health.

Reading your posts lately has been inspirational to others, me included. I have been reading and thinking more and more about not just losing weight, but regaining my inner bear. :D

Keep it up, my friend. You are definitely getting it done.

Mandy, I've lost a little more on my waist which is nice. The weight will have to come off eventually. It's just a delay as long as I keep eating well and exercising.

Don, thanks Awesome Possum! We are getting there together.

Hey Mr ;) you truly cannot underestimate the support here! I appreciate it a lot too!!

As for the weight-lifting - I agree it takes time to see weight-loss on the scale. I am worried about that too. I am about to start my super workout regime (Doing weights/body sculpture)! & I want to see the lbs drop.
Check this out though:

This is why it's important to take measurements - your clothes will notice it before the scale!!

Go Quercus!

Hi Quercus, you're doing an awesome job!

How's the running going?
I'm thinking about picking up running as well, but I never did before because I was concerned for my knees.

Thanks Justina! Good luck with your weight lifting start out easy and then add weight and reps so you aren't too sore at first.

Guideon, I weigh 316 and the running has been tolerable. I recommend a heart rate monitor so you don't overdo things. Running past the aerobic zone is what makes you sore. If you're anything like me it will be mostly walking at first so your legs get eased into it. You're the first Nederlander I've seen here so far. It's really cool that we have people from all over on here. I miss being around different cultures. Seattle was quite a mix and I worked for a company that had a Danish parent company so there were lots of Europeans there. Now I live in rural east Texas and there aren't many people around at all.

If you decide to start running I would not use wooden shoes. :biggrinjester:

I have been a little sick since yesterday PM so I have skipped lifting last night and running tonight. I miss it and want to feel better so I can run again. I'm hoping the rest will have the scale down a little in the morning, but I'm not holding my breath.

313.2 today 3 pounds below the previous low of 316.2 and 36 pounds and 10.3% down. So Don is still awesome, but he won't be in my sig anymore. I slept until almost 1 pm and I'm under a blanket in sweats despite it being 95 outside. I hate being sick.

Congrats on the scale movement, uncongrats on the illness. I have an annoying chest congestion myself right now (but strangely no other cold symptoms).

I'm poorly too :( Hard to stick to good food choices when you're not doing a great deal. Boredom makes me hungry! Hope you feel better soon lovely xx

Oh no, I hope you feel better soon so you can get back to working out. In the meantime, just get plenty of rest and enjoy the fact that you're at a new low for weight. :)

Thanks and unthanks MrVee!

Sorry to hear your under the weather Sunflower. xx back at you!

Thanks Mandy, I'm feeling much better today. With a 4 day layoff from exercising I'm going crazy. I've not taken more than 1 day of in a long while before now. I will at least cycle this evening, but I would prefer a run. We will see how I feel, but there will definitely be exercise tonight. I have no clue what my actual calories were, but they were low Friday and Saturday and high Sunday. I can't gauge ho wthis will effect me as I was laid up the whole time.

I did manage to setup Raspbmc on a Raspberry Pi as my HTPC.

English: I set up a tiny computer with a Linux operating system designed to play videos, music, photos on my TV.

My next computer projects are:
FreeNAS server
install and learn Arch Linux
VPN for my torrent client as my ISP has taken it upon themselves to block my abilities to upload.
Arch Linux on a "broken" Macbook I was given (assuming I figure out the OS and like it).

Tonight's run/walk
1 hr
avg hr 146
peak 161

1 minute recovery 0

Wow tonight was tough. I'm still not 100%, but I needed to exercise. My heart rate was nearly 40 bpm higher than before just walking out to the road. I had slow recoveries between runs and felt nauseous quite a bit. The worst was my heart rate recovery. I stood catching my breath at the end of the hour for 1 minute and my heart rate stayed at 149 bpm the entire time. I hope I don't regret this.

My sciatica is hurting and I am going to stick to cardio until it is better. It only hurts because I was laid up all weekend.

Go easy Q! You worry me with your "push through" approach sometimes.

However, I imagine you are a LOT stronger and healthier now than just a few months ago. Keep it up, my friend, just listen your pain.
