The Best Abdominal Exercises.

Ok im nineteen and pretty skinny. I mean i weigh 120 pounds at this age. And i dont have a six pack. My grandpa and dad both have large guts skinny bodies. I know that six pack has some to do with genetics but i think i can work past that if i eat healthy. I've been eating a lot of cottage cheese, peanut butter, fruits, veggies, salads,Meat with high protein, swimming laps, doing pushups for my upper and just situps. I want to know Which is THE BEST abdominal workouts. Is it really just crunches or is it the bicycle etc. Thanks guys :D

I honestly think that all depends on yourself. Some people have two "packs" visible but have little definition on the lower parts, and vice versa.

The best thing to do, in all actuallity, is to build the muscle up with heavy weight, and use variations of exercises, ie, leg lifts, crunches, side bends, etc. There is no one exercise that will give you a six pack, bulk up your chest, get rid of your cough, get your vocabulary skills honed, and cure AIDS.

Well, there's a few things you can do. We don't know how tall you are, but since you mentioned that you were already pretty skinny I will assume you are just looking to get some ab definition? Correct me if I am wrong :)

If that is the case, then your goal is most likely overall body fat loss. To reduce your overall body fat consider doing some or all of these things- these are just general guidelines, you should always check with your doctor before doing anything new :)

1) Eat 5-6 small meals throughout the day. Each meal should be 3-4 hours apart. Each meal should contain one protein and one carb.

2) Drink lots of water. :)

3) Rest properly. This means taking at least 24-48 hours between strength training the same muscles, and it also means getting at least 7-8 hours of sleep per night. Lastly, it means taking 1-2 days off from exercising per week.

4)Cardio. This should be done at different intensity levels and different session lengths. Consider doing a low intensity/long session, a high intensity/short session and a few medium intensity/medium length sessions.

5) Strength Training. Strength train each muscle 1-3 times per week. You should lift a proper weight and perform the proper amount of sets/reps for your strength training method.

It may just be a case of increasing your ab muscles too. I think the best ab routine is one that consists of exercises for your upper/lower/oblique and your rectus sheath (fancy word for the long layer of muscle underneath the upper/oblique/lower abs. It supports the spine the most, keeps our tummy from bulging out so much and helps support posture.)

I personally like doing a mixture of plank pose, reverse crunchs and 180 stabilty ball crunches. They're just my favs :p

Oh, one more thing your ab muscles are just like every other muscle. They need proper rest. So try not to exercise the abs every day.

i started the gym 2 months ago and i never used 2 have much of a six pack,
i started off by going joggin 2 times a week about 5miles, wearing a swet suit (this suit is great for getting out water excess and increasing the process of burning fat etc), when i work out on my abs, i do sit ups, 4 sets of around 50, 4 sets of 20 leg raises (helps if u have a partener) s sets of 25 on the ab crucnh machine, and 4 sets of 25 on the sit up machine were the bar goes across your chest you sit down and lean forward but concentrate on your abs. also a six pack dont lookto good if you dont work your pecs!!

here is a pic how my stomach looks now
still needs more
work but am happy becasue i am seeing a differnce
