The amazing shrinking woman (I hope!)

I love that: "Must Resist Munchies". That applies to me as I try to conquer night time eating. Its like quitting smoking, I'm used to eating in the middle of the night and now I MUST RESIST.

Hey it sound like you could use some rest. You are an energizer bunny.

I had a pretty lazy day today. Got up and had breakfast with the kids, then hubby and I snuggled on the couch and fell asleep still it was time to go feed the cows. Then after we got done with that and got finished for lunch we took another nap! Got up and I finally didn't feel like a walking zombie any more. I figured since I was feeling pretty good I should get my run in. With as tired as I've been lately I figured I'd be lucky to get a nice easy 3 miles in. But once I got started I felt GREAT!!! I ended up going just over 7 miles - woo hoo!!!

Had a yummy salmon dinner tonight (while everyone else had burgers). I made lima beans for the first time too. We've had them before as part of a mixed vegetable blend, and the kids always fight over who gets the baby elephant ears. So I decided to try just plain lima beans thinking they'd love them. The first few bites went over pretty good, but then everyone decided for some reason that they didn't like them after all. The kids were whining about having to eat their 'slima beans' as they were calling them. Personally I thought they were great! Definately something I'd like to have again. So far I haven't met a vegetable I haven't liked though.

The muscle soreness from yesterday's weight training is setting in this evening. It seems to always take a full 24 hours for it to show up. The muscle right under my butt cheeks especially is tender (from doing squats) and my long run didn't help much. I hope I'm not too sore tomorrow because I plan to run again (that's what the exercise plan calls for). I'm so proud of myself for keeping up with EVERYTHING on my exercise plan. The weight training is going much better than it has before. I think maybe before I did too much to start with and I wasn't always doing them correctly so they hurt or were harder to do than they needed to be. Now when I'm lifting I get more of a sense of power (like I do when I run) than I have in the past. Before I just felt clumsy and like I was always struggling. I know I'm getting stronger and it feels pretty darn good!

Glad to hear you got that good, long run in! Sometimes that's all we need to get out of a tired-phase, something to wake us up both physically and mentally. Sounds like I need to add some squats to my work-out, seeing as you're sore in the area of my body I'd really like to fix the most! I don't think I've ever done a squat before, actually.

:cuss: I just stepped on the scale and it said 142!!!

What the hell???? I mean WHAT THE FREAKIN' HELL??!?!?!?!?!

How is that possible? I have been VERY good, eating well, exercising and THIS is what I have to show for it?

I had better get a better number than that tomorrow or Mr. Scale is gonna meet Mr. Sledge Hammer!

Just finished my run (not quite 4 miles) and did my upper body strength training. I did a few extra reps in each set, plus had on a bit more weight than what was in my exercise plan. My arms are quivering now - was probably a bit too much. But I was pretty ticked off with what the scale is showing me today. I tried hubby's scale too in case mine was off - it gave me the same reading. Conspiracy maybe? Hmmm......

I know I shouldn't let the numbers bother me that much, but it does. A pound or 2 I can tolerate, but why the heck would I jump up 6 lbs all of a sudden when I've been eating well under maintenance, PLUS have been really good about working out for the last 2 weeks now?

So, at the moment my thinking is that there are some peanut butter cookies sitting in the kitchen left over from the kids baking cookies this afternoon for snack, and why should I even bother denying myself them if it doesn't matter in the end anyway?

BAH! This just makes me crabby!

Move away from the cookie Jar

When you work out hard your muscles will retain water putting your weight up temporarily while they repair, DON'T PANIC.

By doing more in your workout you may have good case of DOMS over the next couple of days. A alternating shower 30 secs hot 30 secs cold (as cold as you can handle it) repeated 3 or so times will reduce the DOMS effect over the next couple of days while your muscle heal.

Hi Tig, just caught up on your diary. You are so inspiring with your exercising. I really need to get back into it. No excuses now all the holidays are over and things are back to normal. I know what you mean about the munchies. Sometimes I just don't know what it is that I am craving and keep trying different things without success and end up eating all sorts of rubbish. I'm glad that you are still reporting in regularly as I really miss some of the others :(

Stay AWAY from those cookies, woman! You've been doing this for long enough to know that our bodies make no bloody sense and are not reliable when it comes to scale activity at all! If you know you've been eating and exercising well, the scales will shift. Keep HEALTHY and don't slip up and I'm sure the scales will reflect your effects soon. Don't throw the towel in over one stupid scale reading!

Thanks Sunflower! I'm trying to just forget about it and keep going. Hopefully things even out here in a few days.

Well, it's been an interesting day today. Mid morning the power went out at work, and when the backup generators kicked in, they created some sort of surge and fried themselves. We're talking sparks, smoke, the works! So all computer systems were down, and the power company said it would be later tonight before anything could be fixed. So they sent everyone home early! YAY! A paid afternoon off!

It would have been better if this would have happened on another day so that I could have used the time to work out or something, but today is my scheduled rest day. So I watched a movie with hubby and took a nap with the twins.

I am getting SO sick of winter already! We got a couple more inches of snow today (not that it matters when we've already gotten over 40 inches this winter) and it's -17 (F) right now. BBRRRR!!!!! And it seems now that I have lost quite a few inches of fat, I feel cold all the time. Less insulation to keep me warm I guess. I'd much rather pile on the sweaters than have all that fat back though!

I know what you mean about the Winter. We have so much snow up here cars are literally buried. It is a good workout shovelling snow but I would rather do something else-lol. Although I do run in it. We have a river valley up here that has some nice running paths along it and they get plowed so running is not too bad. It is -26 C up here with a windchill of -35. I run every Sunday outside - dress in layers- that is the trick-lol. It is not too bad in fact dare I say I have gotten used to it. Running in snow is like running in sand but colder. It is a good workout and not too hard on the legs. With my weight loss I too am cold all the time. I think your body has to get used to the reduction in weight.

You're lucky you have someplace to run that gets plowed regularly. Living in a rural area we are lucky if we can get plowed within a week of each snowfall - and that's just enough to get our vehicles out and into town for groceries and such! I can't imagine running outside this time of year. This morning the temp was -22 F (that's -54 C!) and that's not including the wind chill! My lungs just can't take breathing all that cold air - not sure if it's because I have a little trouble with asthma or what. Would be interesting to feel what it's like to run in it though. I think I'll stick to my treadmill though till this summer!

I met a lady recently that has been trying to talk me into going on this women's retreat next month. Ladies go for the weekend to this mountain retreat and they teach you how to cross country ski, snowshoe, and run a dog sled. It's very hands on and apparently one heck of a workout! She's always wanted to try it, but doesn't want to go alone. But none of her friends are willing to go because they are not physically fit enough. Ever since she found out that I normally run anywhere from 3 to 7 miles she's been nagging me about going. I think it would be a blast, but it's expensive and money's kind of tight at the moment. I would feel too guilty blowing that much money on something like that. Maybe next year.... Hopefully we'll have some extra money around by then.

I also feel the cold so much more now but I noticed that last summer the heat didn't affect me as much as usual so it has it's compensations as well. :)

Howdy folks! Just finished my run, but I'm not sure how far I went because I sort of got interrupted in the middle and forgot to pause the distance tracking thingy for the time that I was off the treadmill. I do NOT understand how some men can find a scraggly looking, sweating, stinky woman irresistibly sexy, so much so as not to be able to leave the stinky woman alone long enough to finish her run!

Oh well. It was fun, and my heart rate didn't decrease all that much by the time I got back to finishing my run. And that's the whole point of doing cardio, right? To keep that heart rate elevated.

A bunch of coworkers were standing around the breakroom today discussing that Biggest Loser show (which I have to admit I've never actually watched) and how they know they could never lose weight because they could never work out as hard as the people on that show do. It kind of pissed me off because they all have this unrealistic view of what it takes to lose weight - by killing themselves with exercise. They don't realize that nutrition is more key to losing weight than any work out you can do. The main focus seems to be treating people like dirt, forcing them to work out so hard that they are in pain and tears. I have a BIG problem with that. To me it doesn't sound like they treat them with much respect and dignity. I can't see how that kind of weight loss can be healthy or sustainable for the rest of their lives. I wonder how many actually manage to keep the weight off years after they have been on the show?

The scale was down another half pound this morning, but I'm still not back to the 136 that I was at last week. Foods were good today (in fact a little under) so hopefully the numbers will keep going down. But why is it that they can jump so high in a day or 2, but it takes days and days and days or even weeks to get back down to where you were? What's up with that??!?!?

re:

Just so you know- I think your weight loss is really inspiring! Thanks for posting your information to motivate the rest of us!
:rotflmao:

:hurray: Scale is back down to 136.0 today. Took long enough! I'm still not 100% sure what caused the sudden jump in weight, but I'm glad it's going down again. Someone mentioned that when lifting weights your muscles retain water as they repair. Not sure if that's it or what? I don't recall that happening when I first started weight training this last summer. I don't think. Geez, I can barely remember yesterday some days - how can I remember what my weight did last year?

Anyway, something is definatly going on because I took a couple measurements this morning and my hips have dropped an inch since I measured at the beginning of January, and my waist has gone down half an inch. YIPPEEEE!!!! No change anywhere else though, but I don't think there's much to lose anywhere else any more. All the flabby stuff that's left is around my midsection - lower abdominal area, hips, butt and thighs.

Oh yea - and I guess the boobs too. But I've pretty much given up hope of them magicly turning back into perky little C cuppers.

I noticed something else today too.... After having the twins I had a big gap in my abdominal muscles. I used to be able to lay on my back on the floor and tense my tummy muscles. I could feel the gap and at this time last year it was big enough for me to stick my fist into. I was told the only way to repair that was to have surgery, and that in the mean time I had to be careful about doing anything strenuous like sit ups or crunches because it could cause my intestines to bulge out thru the gap in my abdominal wall.

Well, I was so pleased to discover today that I can't even find the gap any more! The muscles have pulled back together nice and tight from all the ab work I've been doing lately. I guess all this exercise is working. IT'S REALLY WORKING!!!!!

Tonesd sexy body here I come!

well done loosing the inches :) and it is great that your abdominus separation has come together.

I can't find the studies online at the moment but the fluid retention is the bodies response to healing the damaged muscles after the workout but the fluid retention can be up to 4 lb and can last up to 2 weeks. think of it like any other injury that swells during healing. If your not working hard enough for DOMS your not going to get the fluid retention.

Whoa I really enjoyed reading your last post Tigpuppy. Very interesting about noticing the cold more and to see that you are losing inches too. Also to see that you experience also days and days and days of waiting for the scale to move back down after a little bump up. It would be glorious to be able to withstand heat a little better in the summer as I work as a gardener.

Man its cold where you are.
