The amazing shrinking woman (I hope!)

Ugh! I'm SO tired. I have been up since 3 am because I had to work in the city today. Had a zillion errands to run after work, so got home late. Hubby had a make up game for pool league - so I was on my own getting the kids supper (thank goodness for McDonalds!) and to bed.

I am so sore from my work out last night too. My armpits/pecs hurt the worst. I didn't think I had that many muscles in my armpits! Thank goodness today is my rest day for the week because I don't think I could handle working out. Although it may losen things up a bit - sitting at my desk all day, plus the 2 and a half hour commute make me pretty stiff.

I bought a set of dumbells today (40 lbs) that were on sale. I've been using hubby's barbell, and using the plates that go on it as dumbells, but it's really hard to keep a good grip on them and I was worried it would affect my form and cause me an injury. Plus I'm a clutz and I just know one of these times I'll slip and drop the things on my foot or head or something. I may still do that, but hopefully using a real dumbell will help me keep a good grip. The plates that came with the dumbells will fit hubby's barbell too, so I can get a better variety of weight levels as I get stronger and can start off with smaller weights. His stuff is really all too heavy for me and I've just been using the bare bar, or else hanging my ankle weights on the ends (5 lbs each).

I'm sitting in the family room right now and I can smell celery really strong. It's making me sneeze! But I can't figure out where it's coming from! The twins asked if they could each have their own whole stalk of celery for snack yesterday and I suspect that someone didn't eat theirs and stashed it somewhere. I've searched everywhere, ripped the couch apart and still can't figure out where the smell is coming from! It's driving me nuts!

I stepped on the scale just now and it says 141.4! And that's AFTER eating supper, which has been my biggest meal today. This is gross, and probably TMI but I think a lot of the weight I put on was backed up poo. The entire time I was on vacation I didn't really eat much fiber, drank no water (lots of wine was consumed though!), ate lots of stuff with white refined flour in it (COOKIES!) and it really screwed up the plumbing if you know what I mean! The last 2 days of eating healthy foods and drinking lots of water has gotten things moving again though. I didn't realize how crappy I was feeling until this evening. I feel SO much better now!

Speaking of healthy foods - today was great! I'm a couple hundred calories short though, so I'm going to have a big glass of milk and go to bed. I'm oncall this week, so I better get to sleep in case I get called tonight and end up working thru the night.

Be healthy everyone!

LOL I'm beginning to suspect that most of my weight gain was the same thing. I didn't have my bran for breakfast for nearly a week and now that I'm having it I'm just about back to normal, much quicker than I expected to be and with very little effort. I hated that bloated feeling :)

Boy Eycky - you and I must REALLY need our fiber!

After another couple of trips to the bathroom, I was SO relieved (no pun intended) this morning when I stepped on the scale and saw that it said 138.8! And... (sorry, this is really gross) I see that the quinoa I had from supper 2 days ago has made it all the way thru now. Every time I eat that stuff (or corn) I always think of it as a bookmark for your poop! :biggrinjester: It's VERY obvious on the way out.

Also, this morning just for the heck of it I re-measured my waist. It's an inch smaller than it was when I measured on Monday morning!

So... Maybe the damages from my holiday vacation really weren't so bad after all? It's kind of nice to know that I can actually increase my calories by quite a bit and it won't completely ruin everything overnight. I just have to make sure that with eating like that I HAVE to keep up with the fiber-rich foods and water. Live and learn, right?

I'm really looking forward to my run tonight - a nice 3 miles at an easy pace. That should help work the kinks out of my sore muscles!

Sorry for such a shitty post (pun intended this time!)

Make healthy choices my friends!

Lovely topic of conversation going on in here...

So Tiggy is becoming an elite athlete huh? good job darlin' Sorry havn't been around much lately, the holidays kinda did a number on me. Stressed out to the ned for weeks now, hoping it slowly recedes and I have time to post more.

Hey there Cabbie! Great to hear from you! Sorry you are feeling so stressed out. I've really missed seeing your handsome face around here!

The scale is quicky speeding back down to pre-Christmas numbers. This morning the magic winning number was 137.2! WOO HOO!!

Had a great run last night - it was just what I needed. I felt great after. And this morning I'm finally not so sore and stiff. But that may change after tonight's work out. It's weights day today - but lower body this time. By this time tomorrow I may be back to whining about how sore I am.

For the first time in my adult life I tried making salmon last night for supper. I love fish, but have always thought I hated salmon. I tried it as a kid and it had such an overpowering fishy taste to it that it made me gag - and I haven't tried it since. I keep reading lately how even if you have really low total cholesterol, if your good cholesterol levels are too low, it can sometimes be worse than having high cholesterol. So I've been trying to add in more foods that would increase my HDL levels because on my last bloodwork I was REALLY low. Apparently completely cutting out too much fat from your diet can drasticly reduce your HDL levels. So I figured I'd give salmon another chance. And guess what? I LOVED it! SO YUMMY!!! And fast and easy to cook - so I will have no problem with having fish several times a week now. Hopefully it improves my cholesterol numbers by later this fall when I normally get them re-checked.

Thanks Happychubette!

I just finished working out (strength training lower body today). I have this lovely post workout buzz going on - feels AWESOME!!!! The kids all had to get into too. They were counting my reps, spotting for me, and reminding me to breathe. I have 4 mini-personal trainers now I guess. They are all real slave drivers!

Foods today were right on track, and I have enough cals left to have a small glass of sangria tonight since I'm not oncall for work any more. I'm so hyped up right now from working out that I hope the sangria will help mellow me out enough to be able to get to sleep tonight.

Be healthy folks!

I decided to create some albums on here and put all my monthly progress pictures on with the weights that I was at that time. I also found some old fat pictures that I put on. I think I might do some old, old skinny pics (before I got fat) and will have to find some new current ones (with my clothes on) to put on as well.

The last monthly pic I took was the first part of October. I skipped November because I had these HUGE bruises (accident with a ladder) and was waiting for them to fade. After that I just sort of forgot about it. So I never got around to taking some 'goal met' pictures. I'll have to do that after I lose these last few lbs from Christmas and I'm back at my first goal weight again. Then I'll start taking monthly pics again so I can see if I'm growing any muscles yet! :sifone:

You look fantastic! Amazing progress :)

Thanks! It's been a heck of a journey, that's for sure!

I'm not sure why, but all day today I have been just ravenously hungry! I ate what I usually do for breakfast (I have a few different versions of each meal and just keep repeating) which was a cup of frozen blueberries and a protein shake made with skim milk. Usually I have a snack mid morning, and am fine till lunch. But I ate my morning snack early, then ate my afternoon snack this morning before lunch as well, along with a handful of almonds. I was almost considering taking my lunch break early because I was just starved and it wasn't yet lunchtime! I kept chugging water thinking that it would trick my stomach into thinking it wasn't really hungry and empty. It didn't work very well though.

I had a peanut butter and banana sandwhich on whole wheat for lunch, and a 11.5 oz can of V8 juice. That was 2 hours ago, and here I am looking for something to snack on. But I don't have anything more here at work. So I'm going to try chewing some gum and drinking more water. I only have an hour left to work.

Maybe I'm starving because I'm due to start my period any day now? I never remember feeling actual hunger pangs like this before that TOM though. I had cravings (usually for chocolate) and such, but today I keep feeling like I haven't eaten in DAYS! What the heck is up with that??!?!?

I'll have to grab something for a quick snack when I get home because the kids have a 4-H meeting tonight, so we won't get home for supper till later. Hope I don't wither up from hunger by then!

My new exercise plan calls for fast paced running tonight - YIPPEE!!! Really looking forward to my run! I bought some new running socks and want to try them out. I always get blisters on my feet (balls of my feet and tips of my toes) when I run, so I want to see if they help. I used them for my run on Wednesday, but I still had blisters from my run on Monday yet, so couldn't really tell if they helped or not. I didn't get any new ones, so I think they may have. I'll have to see how it goes tonight.

Hello Tigpuppy,

I am fairly new to this forum and I have been reading your diary. You have come a long way from when your started. You look great by the way. I started my latest weight loss journey on my birthday last August. I turned 49. I realized that I have been fat my whole life and figured it was time to change before I turned 50-lol. I have gone from 255 to 199 at 5'11" by eating right and taking up running. I never thought of myself as a runner but I really love it. I know what you mean by being hungrier on some days than others. Some days I could go to a buffet and clean every plate ( of course I can't but I feel like it-lol). I guess it is your body's way of telling you to eat something as the fuel is low. Scares me sometimes because it reminds me of days gone by when I WOULD eat anything and everything. It is nice to see you winning your battle and you are an inspiration to a lot of people. Keep it up!!

Hey Cowboy! Welcome to the forum! Thanks for stopping in and taking the time to read and comment.

You have come a long ways in your journey as well! Good for you!

And another runner amongst us!

Do you have a journal yet? Hope to see you around the forum and I wish you the best of luck!

Just finished my 3 mile run. It was a bit more challenging tonight because the muscle soreness from yesterday's lower body strength training workout finally set in by this evening. My legs feel like quivering jelly right now.

Maybe it will help work off the supper I had tonight. Each month when our 4-H club meets, a different family prepares a meal to share after the meeting. Tonight they provided hot dogs, buns, chips, and these bars that I think were called scotcharoos? Chunky peanut butter, corn flakes, sugar and corn syrup. I didn't have the potato chips (never cared too much for them anyways) but when I put everything into my meal calculator thingy I found I am over by almost 200 cals for the day.

Is that going to stop me from having a glass of wine right now? :reddevil: No! I've got some wicked cramps right now, and having a glass or 2 of wine always helps.

I'm off to go self medicate.

Been REALLY crabby all day today. Don't you just love PMS?

I did my strength training workout before supper (plan calls for full body - today's my hardest weight training day) and then had a YUMMY meal afterwards. I'm so glad I decided to try salmon again because I'm really loving it! Tonight I made salmon with garlic and dill, and cooked it with a pile of chopped onions and peppers. And I put it over some cooked brown rice for some more carbs/grains since I was still a bit short on that for the day. YUM! YUM! YUM! YUMMY!!!!!!! Rest of the day was pretty good for foods too. The only thing I caved on was having a couple of chocolate chip muffins and a glass of milk for snack this afternoon. One would have been within my cals for the day, but having the 2nd one put me a little over. I'm not too worried though - I'm planning to go for a long run tomorrow (6 or 7 miles) so will burn that off and then some.

Hope everyone is having a great weekend!

Whoa girl do you ever rest??? Just kidding. That's some intense working out when your legs feel like jello. Enjoy your long run.

Hi Tigs, man those pics blow me away! You have made so much change to your whole body - you're AWESOME! I wish I had taken some semi-nudish pics at the start, but I just didn't want to see it I guess...

Your salmon sounds cool, I've never tried it but you've inspired me to give it a go :)

Your progress pics show an incredible transformation so far, sure you're really proud of yourself well done :D

Hi Tigpuppy,

No journal yet. I guess I should, although I am at the end of my journey hopefully?Just reading your latest post-funny I love all kinds of fish but never liked salmon before. I guess it was all the canned salmon sandwiches my Mom made me as a kid-lol. I didn't try it again until about a year ago. I loved it as well. It is great on the barbecue or a maple glaze. Both excellent. I am going to be running outside tomorrow- we just got 30 CM of snow in a day and a half and the paths around should be like running in sand. I am still looking forward to it though. Running is in my blood apparently. I am moving up from 5 KM to 10 KM and adding some weight training to tone up. I seem to be at a bit of a plateau although I am still losing just not as fast as before. I guess that is to be expected as I don't have that much left to lose. Well keep up the good work

Happychubette - I DID enjoy my run (kids were driving me nuts today so it was great to have the me time) but I only managed to go 5 miles instead of the 7 I was hoping for. I got started later than I wanted to and then the minions were demanding to be fed. And apparently I am the only person in this house capable of preparing food - so I had to cut my run short to make supper.

Jess and Caiman - thanks for the comments on my progress pics. There were a lot of days when I wanted to throw in the towel, but I would put up the first before picture next to the current progress picture and seeing that change WAS slowly taking place gave me the inspiration to keep going. I really debated with myself about taking the pictures in my underwear, but I wanted to be completely honest with myself about how bad I had let myself go. Back when I started I sure had no intention of sharing the photos with anyone. But after I joined the forum I found that I got a lot of encouragement and inspiration from seeing other people's pictures that I decided to bite the bullet and share them. Besides, I'm rather proud of how my body is beginning to look now, and I'm not that fat girl in the first photos any more.

Cowboy - You said you were nearing the end of your journey. What is your goal weight then? My hubby is the same height as you. Last year he was at 220 lbs, but just from me changing how I eat, forcing my family to switch to whole wheat, and introducing new, healthier food options he has lost quite a bit of weight himself. He's down to 190 now. But the man's eating habits are HORRIBLE! He has candy bars for breakfast, drinks Pepsi like water, and eats full fat everything, and tons of white pasta. I think he's part of the reason why I put on weight over the years. I was raised eating very healthy foods (lots of fruits and veggies) but after we married I started eating like he did. BAD IDEA! Now I know that I just can't eat like that if I want to maintain my weight at a healthy level. Once in a while is ok for a treat, but I just can't do it every day.

Salmon on the grill sounds great! Mine is currently buried under a snow drift, so I'll have to wait till spring to try it out. I can't wait to start grilling again! We LOVE food on the grill!

And running outside will have to wait till spring for me as well. I've mostly run inside on the treadmill because I live on a farm in the middle of nowhere and only have gravel country roads to run on. They aren't always in the best condition. Also, a number of times I've had the crap scared out of me because I was 'in the zone' and didn't hear vehicles come up behind me. And with having 4 small children I find it's just easier to plant them in front of the TV and go run on my treadmill in the other room where I can deal with any issues or fights between my 4 kids if hubby's not around. Also, with working full time, I can't always get out for a run during daylight hours, so my trusty treadmill allows me quite a few extra hours in which to get my run in. There are also no bugs in my workout room. There were a number of times last year when I first started running outside when I swallowed bugs while running. BLECH!

I know what you mean about slowing down the closer you get to your goal - the same is happening to me. In fact, the first 20 lbs or so I lost easily just thru changing my eating habits. Things started to slow down when I added exercise into the mix. But the inches were still coming off, so I knew that I must be building muscle as the fat was melting away.

That's mostly what I'm working on right now - building more muscle. I'm not too much concerned with the number on the scale any more. I'd like to look well muscled and athletic, not scrawny (all skin and bones) like I did when I was in my early 20s.

THEN the task will be to maintain the end result! I hope that goes just as well!

Hi Tigpuppy,

My goal is 175 pounds so I am 22 pounds away. I think they will be the hardest to lose but I guess I will see. Pepsi for breakfast- that is bad-lol. He must feel better after losing all that weight? Maybe he will turn over a new leaf? Just don't let him suck you into eating his way again-lol. Although looking at your journey it would probably take a semi to pull you back to eating bad again. I have my grill in my garage as I live in Canada and we gets lots of snow and cold weather. Allows me to barbecue year round which is nice. I live out in the country as well so I understand about running on country roads in the Winter. I don't like my wife running in the dark either but she uses our treadmill and I usually run at the gym - I stop on my way home after work usually. I have eaten my fair share of bugs last past summer as well-at least they are low in calories-lol.

My goal for this year is to run a 10KM and hit the weight room. I have lost some muscle this time around so I need to replace some of it. It should help the loose skin as well - I hope.

Cudos for you for finding time to run and exercise with 4 small kids around. I have three kids but they are all older- the youngest being 14 so I can run when I want to- of course that is between driving him to Basketball and Volleyball-lol.

Well, off to work. Have a great day!
