The 4-Hour Body

Well my six weeks are done on this diet. I have to say, I am disappointed. I only lost 10lbs, so that is something since I am out of the weight I was stuck at. I did lose 1.9 of body fat but I was hoping for more extreme results. and I worked out really good and I stuck to the diet really well. Oh well.

I am starting the abs diet which the more I looked at it, it was the way I was eating before. 6 small meals a day....the book just taught me what to look for when I go grocery shopping. I feel I will have more success this time. I am not giving up! I have been consistent since August 2010!

congrats on the weight-loss Bianca. I too had sub-par results on the 4HB. Like you, I have been dieting since 08.10, and have had good results.

I believe the 4HB is okay for someone that has not ever dieted before, and has not been eating healthy at all. The sudden change of diet, and modification of food-intake may produce better results than you and I saw, but I don't think that for people who have been eating healthier, and working out already, it will produce very dramatic results.

You know, I think that's a really good point. The diet is probably a lot better for people eating the Standard American Diet - aka SAD ;) For those who are already more aware of healthy eating it's not so great.

It's also sad to hear that this diet had so much muscle loss... it seemed to be somewhat protein centric, but I guess strength training really can make a difference, especially with the large deficit 6 days a week followed by a freebie day which without strength training has a good chance of loading back on more fat than muscle...

Good luck to you Bianca, just because this wasn't the plan for you doesn't mean you can't improve! And you made it past your sticking point!

Agree--A Little

I totally agree with the no white foods -- anything flour-based is a white food. Anything milk-based is a white food. Heck, anything processed is white food. All of it should be banned. If you need a bread and can't live without it, go with grain-sprouted breads that our bodies can easily convert to energy and use instead of storing as fat.

I don't agree with the no fruit rule. Fruit is a natural food with a natural sugar that our bodies, again, can use as energy instead of being stored as fat. They do have vitamins and essential nutrients and have been in the human diet for centuries, whereas protein bars and diet pills have not.

Splurge on one day--that's a nice idea and for some will work, but for others who have a constant struggle with their weight, this is going to blow up. One day a week might lead to two or three or more. Excuses will be made for special events and then the individual might get so of course that they give up entirely.

Drink water, eat significantly more fruits and vegetables than lean and healthy proteins, exercise daily, and you should have no problem losing or maintaining weight. There is no need to do anything fancy or complicated.

To me it just seems like the diet we've all tried before, if i'm good for 6 days of the week I can splurge on the 7th, and then of course you will eat your entire calories woth that you missed during the week because you know you wont have it for another 6 days. When you lose weight you have to commit, feeding the junk food addiction even if it is once a week is not going to stop you wanting it, and then you will go straight back to it after your diet. I'm currently doing cohens diet which has not one tiny space for any carbs except for a few crisp breads and absolutly no fats or sugars full stop. It takes alot of effort and sacrafise but if you want it bad enough you will do it. :) good luck! xo

Just another model that might make people think its easy to lose weight so they will buy the book. And another program that will do nothing for long term weight loss.

Its a very stupid type of program if you ask me.

I agree. Definitely not a long term program. I will be checking into something more sustainable once i get to my goal.

Hi everyone, sorry I haven't posted in a few weeks but I've been really busy with my family ...

Anyway, I just wanted you all to know that I reached & surpassed my weight goal near the end of March on this diet. I've mostly been pretty strict with it, except that I do have one serving of fruit (usually an apple) every day. I don't go as nuts on the cheat days as I did in the beginning, but I think that's because I no longer crave cheese & potatoes, which were my two favorites before, and I almost never want desserts, but I was never that into sweets to begin with.

When I started the diet in the beginning of January, I was 5'9", size 12, and now I'm back into all of my size 6 pre-baby clothes. The only thing is that I seem to have a bit of a muffin-top now whenever I wear jeans, whereas before I always had a very slim waist - the skin there feels soft & spongy, so I think that's just what happens to skin after 2 kids. My original goal weight was 148, but my new goal weight is 138, because that's what I weighed when I first met my husband, and I hope that I will look firmer if I lose some more weight.

Starting weight (January 10): 168
Current weight (hit on March 30): 147

My old measurements were:
Bust: 39
Waist: 31
Hip: 42
Thigh: 23

My current measurements are:
Bust: 38
Waist: 28
Hip: 38.5
Thigh: 20.5

Are you planning on continuing the diet once you reach your goal? I'm not, but only because I'm adding some fruit, eliminating legumes, but adding omega-3 rich nuts -- which means it's no longer, technically, a 4-HB diet. Congratulations on your progress.

The 4 hour body plan is probably sustainable for some, but not for others. Been working for me so far. It's so nice on cheat day to not have to worry about hidden calories in food. One can just eat and enjoy.
Been maintaining 162 lbs. at 5'11" for three months now.
The Author did not say it was easy, just that it would work.

Bluebird, you're doing so great! I have to say that once I reached that 147, which was 1 pound under my original goal, I've been quite a bit more lax with the diet (eating fruit & even some whole grains) but I have maintained my weight for the past couple of weeks and not gained anything back. So, my diet is more "south beach" than "4 hour body" right now. South beach was always just OK for me - it was a good maintenance diet, but I never lost more than 5 pounds on it, so I think I really do need to stay away from grains if I want to lose. I haven't lost anything extra yet, but since I fit back into all of my old clothes now, I haven't been as motivated.

I pretty much stopped exercising over the past couple of months, but I'm going to start jogging again & see if that gets me to lose that last 5-10 pounds.

Thanks. I will probably do the same thing once I reach my goal weight. The long term sustainability/maintenance will be more of a challenge for me. I'm looking forward to seeing your progress.

Hello,

I know that this post was from a few months ago, but I just stumbled upon this book a few days ago. I want to give it a go starting Monday. I skipped reading most of the above comments, so I hope this isn't repetitive to what anybody said. I think that these kind of "extreme" diets are great for when somebody wants to start a weight loss plan to see fast results and stay motivated because the first couple of weeks are always the hardest. Also, for people who have a lot of weight to lose (like 50+ pounds), losing one pound a week is going to be too slow and may lead to a person giving up. Therefore short term extreme dieting can actually be quite helpful.
