The 20 Worst Foods in America

So yesterday my boyfriend offered to take me to Applebee's and split a Lime Chicken dinner. I thought "Oh sure, that can't be more than 500-600 calories altogether, since it's only chicken and seasoned rice (on a couple tortia chips)." But since I'm rigorously counting calories, I googled it before we left. 1285 calories?? For that measly dish?! It's good, but not that good!! (Of course, we didn't go.)

While I was looking though, I came across this Men's Health article that really shocked me!

I was very sad to see some of my favorite foods on that list--and SHOCKED at how many calories can be stuffed into a side/meal! It's so interesting, that I wanted to share :)

i'm really glad that i'm picky and don't like most of the foods on that list...with the exception of that delicious looking dessert from chili's i think (although i always split a dessert) and the pot pie (but i normally make my own or buy another brand...can't remember what it is though at the moment).

i am a big fan of applebee's fiesta lime chicken dinner...it's probably my favorite on the menu. i also figured it couldn't be that bad, considering it is chicken with some sauce on it and a side of rice, but i was curious one day and looked it up and was surprised. i just order a salad before my meal, then immediately cut it in half and box it up before i even eat it. 600 calories is alot, but if i'm really craving it, i'm having it! since i'm sure a chicken caesar salad from there isn't any better and that'd be my alternate choice...

Stupid resturaunts and their calorie-laden goodness. I have to say Ive had those chipotle chicken crispers from chilis and they are delicious and now Im just sad to say that I never looked at the nutrition info...I guess I should have savored it because I prolly wont ever have it again *sigh*

:leaving:

That is a wicked list. :ack2:

I'm so embarrassed that (what used to be) my favorite restaurant meal is the worst food on that list. 2,900 cals and 182 grams of fat?! No wonder I always felt so stuffed after eating those loaded fries. (But of course I always "cleaned my plate" because that would somehow help starving kids in Africa .)

eating out can be deceiving as you don't know what the heck is going on behind those kitchen doors. they could be adding full spoons of fat- oil and deep frying everything for what I know, it is a nightmare. they want to give you your money's worth so they'll add sugar and fat to anything- known vehicle of flavor.

what I normally do is that I specify how I want my food- grilled, no oil added, steamed veggies.
we have applebees in mexico but I never herd of many of the plates on the american menu, the other day for my bday I had a tilapia with ratatouille and a small portion of rice. it was delicious and it wasn't salty or greasy at all!

mcdonald's and other general fast food places scare me.
I always know you can't even trust the salads- as their ranch is loaded with fat!
no thank you I'll rather have my own home cooked meals.

Dude, that burger from Ruby Tuesday's looks absolutely horrific. If you look at it, it looks like a retarded Pac-Man that just got his ass kicked.

PS - Am I the only one who drooled over the #1 worst food? :drooling:

The number one worst food looked great too me too, but I'm a rare french fry eater (or a fast-food eater, for that matter).

Edit: and not because it's bad for me, but because it's not practical for me to eat it all the time.

OK..........so this is going to sound awful but at the peak of my eating disorder I was an Assisant Manager for a Greek Resturaunt so I pretty much did everything (cooked, took orders, bussed, waited, drawers, etc) Well I had a little bit of an evil streak and I would purposely add more butter, or sauce, or cheese to things just to add more calories---its completey evil but I did do it knowingly....so I am always wary at resturants even when the food is specified as "Healthy" because you dont know the inner workings of the person cooking your food....

Rofl.

Forgive me for saying this but that's pretty bitchy.

I hope you didn't do that if it was specifically requested without something.

Ahahaha! Retarded Pac-Man... made out of crap. That thing looks like something a dog might drop on the sidewalk after eating out of a trashcan.

...so do the Chili's Chipotle Crispers.

I'm impressed that Jamba Juice's smoothie had more sugar than two pints of B&J. I feel like they had to TRY to accomplish that.

No I dint normally do it if it was requested, and no offense taken, I know what I was doing was mean, but I had disordered thinking and thought if I couldnt be thin no one should be allowed to be thin. *Crazy* But luckily i no longer work there so alls good :)

Power Smoothie: My Assss, yea cuz that's where it's gonna go.

WoW so much for the Healthy Burger: I indulged the other day at Wendy's: Triple Cheese Burger Combo, with Large Fries (shared), and a Medium Chocolate Frosty (shared), so about 2500 calories...mmm mmm but it was gooood. So I do that once a month. Besides I thought a "healthy Burger" was a Vegie Burger. Those are sooo yucky. I like organic Elk Burgers, that's low fat for ya, and not all the end trails of a Wendy's burger. You know the hoofs and stomach, and whatever else was left over. LMAO

Mmm Quizno's they are goood too. It just comes down to what is actually good for you, health wise. And if you do in fact count calories. I have a problem with all my processed foods.

WoW doesn't that pancake stack just make you :drool5::drool5::drool5:

But hey they say (statistics show) that breakfast should be the biggest meal of the day, and if you were to eat so much junk, one should eat it in the morning. So you can burn it off throughout the day. And it's not sitting their accumulating all that extra weight at night when asleep.

LOL worst fish entree...WHERE'S THE FISH!?!!?!?!

Pizza and Chinese Food: Lets cook all our food in grease and than sponge it out....mmmmm (sarcasm) oh oh and cheese fries:sifone:

NO CHIPOTLES!!! Say it ain't so!!! :banghead: And chinese food..well that's kind of a no brainer it's bad for you but mmm so good.

Uno Chicago Grill Chicago Classic Deep Dish Pizza
"Downing this "personal" pizza is equivalent to eating 18 slices of Domino's Crunchy Thin Crust cheese pizza."
O_O!

and finally, lol @ ~3000 calorie appetizers, jesus christ

Damn that list made me re-think my out-2-eat cheat day.And to top it off,i have eaten almost an entire bloom'in onion myself, including a big ribeye steak, and baked potato(lots of butter), its a good thing im not big on sweets, so i almost always skiped dessert.I must have easily eaten over 4000 calories a day, before my diet. Its amazing my weight never seems to go over 200lbs eating that much calories.

That SAME lime chicken got me too!!! I thought there was no WAY it could be that bad...grilled chicken with lime?! Mmmm....good and healthy.

Then I saw the thick sauce and stuff. I was SHOCKED when I saw the calorie count at home....wow....

Me and my wife went to applebees for our cheat day.We both got the "steak and portabella" dish.We also got the small portion of riblets, and seasoned vegetables instead of fries. We took like two bites and realized the riblets sucked.Good thing we stopped because those riblets are 1500 calories per dish.According to all the online sites, we had around 700 calories each for our cheat day/night.

^^; this stuff doesn't even look tasty. ugh. the problem is not so much the type of food but more tha extra fat and sugar they add. sugar in cheese, bread, ham.. why why? ah well was interesting to see :)

The only thing on that list that looked appealing was the pancakes. I was actually ta;lking about it out loud to my husband....how if we split one...then the calories wouldn't be THAT bad.....lol. But the sugar and fat and carbs would...lol....AND the whole point of that ad was to tell ppl what NOT to eat, not to give ideas. I'm such a fattie...lol

I don't understand why someone would do that. That could cause someone to become very sick and that's not fair. If someone was to add anything extra like that to a meal for me I would have serious, serious problems as my body cannot handle those kind of extra things. I am careful when I go out and only eat a little bit of those things as my whole life it has caused me problems and I try really hard to be able to still go out and enjoy a meal with my family and be careful about what I choose on the menu.

I just don't understand. Did you do this to childrens meals as well?

As a chef, I'm going to throw in my 2 cents on this...

If consuming butter, cream or fat is something that your body can't handle, then don't eat meals that have butter, cream or fat in them. If you were allergic to flour, would you be ok with eating a meal that had "just a little bit" of flour in it? No, you wouldn't. You wouldn't be stupid enough to risk it. So, if you can't eat certain foods, why would you be ordering a dish that has those foods in it to begin with?

That's your responsibility as a customer. If someone orders Chicken Alfredo at my restaurant, eats it and gets sick because they can't eat dairy (alfredo sauce has cream and cheese in it), it's not my fault. It's their fault because they were stupid enough to order something that they couldn't eat.

I'm allergic to penicillin and I'll get sick if I eat it. If I am at a restaurant and I see "Gorgonzola Rigatoni" on the menu, but the waitress assures me that there's not that much gorgonzola in the dish, I'm still not going to order it. There is penicillin in bleu cheese. Gorgonzola is a type of bleu cheese. Even if it's just a little bit, it would still make me sick. So, I'm not going to order it.

If I do order it, but the cook in the kitchen decides to add a lot of gorgonzola for some reason and I get sick, it's still my fault for eating food that I'm not supposed to be eating.

Also, she was talking about adding extra butter, cream or sauce to a dish. There is 100% nothing harmful or life threatening about that.
