Teddy's weight-loss adventures!!

I've seen the signs for a couple of years now as my waist inches out bit by bit. I can't nail down the exact day I fell off the wagon, but it has been a few years now. I used to be quite the athlete back in high school, wasn't everyone? But alas, now I'm embarrassed by my appearance as I've noticed a new chin creep up in a couple of recent pictures taken of me.

The date is April 6th 2009, and today is the first day of my adventure to gain my health and lose some weight!! (I hope you heard that second chin because I'm coming after you first!) I weigh about 205 lbs. My goal is to get down to 160 lbs by the end of the summer. I will travel this journey by eating foods that will NOT poison this trip. I will also exercise on this road to redemption, every spare chance, which will be few considering my duties as Daddy to my 2 year old. In fact, when this inaugural post is finished, I shall embark on a 1 hour walk just to get the juices flowing for tomorrow.

That is all for today's entry Mr. Diary, I bid you adieu! Teddy out.

Day 2

Dear Mr Diary,
The hardest part of accomplishing any lengthy task is starting. Now that I've begun this journey, I feel as motivated as ever to continue to the end. Im going to snap a couple of before pics today to serve as a base point as I move forward toward my destination. On the first of every month I will snap progress pics in hopes of achieving visual gratification.

I also take comfort knowing Im not alone in this endeavor. When my motivation seems low, at least I have my entries to Jazz me up and out the door, running shoes tight. Slow and steady wins the race!

EXERCISE DAY 2:

50 PUSH UPS
30 SIT UPS
30 SUPERMANS
1 HOUR BRISK WALK

Day 3

Day 3 is in the books. With my modified diet in place I've noticed a slight decline in energy today. I didn't catch enough zzzzz last night and it showed today. Tomorrow I'm going to have a fantastic workout, which will include the usual push-up, sit-up, jog, stretch regiment. Hey, as long as I'm sweating I'm happy because I know my body is! I can feel my body entering a starvation mode now that I've cut my caloric intake, and it doesn't feel too bad. Ill get used to it.

My idea to take a picture at the first of each month has been modified a bit. I have decided to weigh in every 10 days, and snap pics every 30. Not a big change just something I thought about today. My before pics have been taken but will not be revealed, even to myself, until I get to day 30.

I expect my weight loss to really kick into gear on May 1 as I will be able to return to my job renovating houses. My boy is off to day-care and I will be burning about 30% more calories due to the nature of construction. Off to bed now, see you 2mowo.

Day 4

Here we are on Day 4 and I'm feeling great today! My Montreal Canadiens are in the NHL playoffs, it was close but they squeaked in there! I took my son on a nice walk today to the cafe and then over to the park for some fun play time. He's napping now so Ill spend a lil time writing my exercise plans for today.

I found a website : . Im going to begin this challenge today and hope to complete it quickly! The challenge is to perform 100 straight push-ups. I can do 10 perfect formed push ups now so I have a bit of work to do. Im also switching from walking to running tonight as I attempt 30 mins at a pretty decent pace. My sit-ups and supermans will also be included along with my stretching. Im hoping to have a swim as well later but that all depends on whether my in laws are home or not. If they are, you can include a 30 min sauna session in there as well!

I had a probiotic wrap with natural peanut butter for lunch. Multi-grain cheerios for breakfast and will round out dinner with a gigantic salad! Fruits for desert. The weather here in Toronto has changed for the better which is great for outdoor activities.

Im 6 days out from my first weigh-in and am looking forward to it with an excited anticipation. We'll see how the first 10 day block goes on my journey to a slim and fit new lifestyle! That is all for today, see ya 2mowo!!!

Hi!

I just wanted to say good luck with your goals and thank you for pointing out the hundred pushup challenge! I just printed out my little starter guide and hopefully in a month and a half I'll be doing tons and tons of pushups!

Good luck with everything! Make sure you're getting enough rest!

Day 5

Its Day 5 and we are looking at a gorgeous day outside. Kimmy - Thank you for your support I appreciate it very much and good look to you as well with the 100 challenge. I wasn't able to swim last night but I did however get a good run in, and it felt pretty darn good too.

Junior and I will be heading out for our usual walk once he finishes lunch in a bit. We should be home by three which will be nap-time for him and exercise time for me. Im going to continue doing what I've been doing as far as push ups, sit ups, etc. I also want to begin planning my routines now that I've shed a lot of the rust that has accumulated. One problem that Ive noticed has been a lack of time management when exercising. This will change tomorrow when my revised plan is complete.

Attitude is 90%, circumstance is 10%. There should be something said about the psychological frame of mind of an individual who is attempting any long term task, such as dropping pounds. I've seen a lot of detailed routines out there and I think they're great. However, I've also stumbled across a few arguments about little things like set counts and rep counts and when is the right time to do cardio and so on. I'm of the opinion that if one is motivated and takes the time to get that heart rate up for at least an hour a day, they will surly see results. A lot of people that I know, always tell me their takes on how training should be accomplished, and if I disagree they get all worked up and actually believe that my theory of weight loss is wrong. Thats my point, if one is in a good place mentally and has a positive attitude, all they need to do is:1. raise heart rate for at least 1 hour a day, and 2. run a slight caloric deficit. Rant over, walk time.

Teddy out.

Day 6 & Day 7

Day 6 was Easter Sunday. I did not exercise and probably ate more than I should have. It happens and I'm going to work even harder on Day 7.

Day 7 is here and Im officially a week into my journey of weight-loss. I believe that this is a crucial time to stick with my plan and not become complacent. If I am able to maintain consistent workouts for the next 10 days then I will be in great position to continue to the end. The weather is going to be really good this week and I will probably seek out a soccer game if one is going on in the park. I'm also thinking about joining the armed forces and if accepted, Basic Training will be no walk in the park. It's early yet but it seems like a great career move for myself and my family. I've had my hang-ups to city life and I would prefer something on either cost, maybe the Navy would be optimal.

Ramblings aside I have not had the chance to create my detailed workout routine yet but will be starting it soon, until then I will continue with what has been working thus far.

Teddy out!

Good luck with your decision to join the Armed Forces! I hope everything works out for you! The Navy is wonderful (from someone who has never served)! I am from San Diego and worked on a naval base for years, it's a beautiful base full of very wonderful people!

I also had a bad weekend for weight loss, but that's okay, just jump right back on! Every meal counts!

Good luck again! You're doing great!

Day 8

Well Day 8 went well. I ate well and had a nice workout. Kimmy, hey slow down, I'm thinking about maybe applying as an electrical engineer but nothing set in stone just yet. I don't want to jump the gun, pun intended. But thanks anyway I appreciate your support.

Im thinking about doing my workout in the morning 2mowo. See how that feels. 2 days until weigh-in.........

Day 9 & Day 10

Day 9 -- i rested today because i felt a bit sore

Day 10 -- Today is my first weigh-in and i tipped the scales at 199.6 for a loss of 5.4 lbs. Not too bad for my first 10 days but I can do better. I was hoping I'd be down at 195 but Im going to need to be a little more careful with what I eat and how I exercise. No big worries. Lets see what day 20 has in store.

START: 205
DAY 10: 199.6

I've got many a thing to do today so au revoir.

Day 13

Today is Day 13 and I will be implementing a new method of weight loss today. I am making the change because I feel that counting calories is becoming a bit of a hassle and is quite time consuming as well. My new technique involves intermittent fasting (IF). I will be fasting every other day starting today to see how IF feels and to see how IF will work with me.

I'm already pleased with the fact that I will not have to spend so much at the grocery store, Im a little nervous at my reaction to low levels of blood sugar. The good news is that as human beings, we have used IF as a species for thousands of years so our bodies can certainly handle the stress of IF.

7 more days until my next weigh-in.

I can wait to see if if works for you and how fast! You can do this!

Day 16

Fasting is tough!! I've fasted twice now and all I can say is it certainly takes some getting used to. When I feel like I need to cheat, I try and picture myself stranded somewhere without food and ask myself what I'd do in that situation, which is simple: tough it out. Lets face it, for some of us weight loss is very challenging. A lot of factors need to be addressed caloric consumption and exercise are the no-brainers, however for a lot of us we are married or have partners without any need for weight-loss. Our people who are closest to us may lead us away from our goals but in the end, its on us to stay strong.

In additiion to the 100 push up/sit up challenge Im working on, I will also be attempting to run 1500 laps of a block near my house (500 meters), and perform 1500 laps of my in-laws pool.

I swam 45 laps yesterday and will begin counting my running laps today.

R- 0 S-45

This is a long and windy road!!

Day 22

I have not been able to post in the last couple days because my internet has been down. Sunday was day 20 and I weighed in at 195.6 lbs. Im not thrilled about the loss because I worked really hard the last week. Im not going to sit and cry about it though. I still have 40 pounds to shed and as long as I continue my fasting and workouts I feel that eventually Ill have a big weight loss by day 30 or even day 40. The weather has gotten a lot better which makes my runs a lot more enjoyable.

Start : 205
Now : 195.6

run laps : 26
swim laps : 45
flights stairs : 22

I hope to reach 1500 in all three categories by sept 1st!!!!!
