Tarrish's Mission: Lose Weight

So I've decided to start one of these diaries. Welcome to my crazy world. Some days won't be pretty while others will be beautiful. My diary will be like a bi-polar fun house, don't mind that. :D

I'll start with answering a few of these questions posed by the sticky thread.

-- How much weight do you want to lose? I would love to lose 43 lbs.

-- What is the timeframe for reaching your target weight? Well, I want to lose 30 lbs by March, but if all else fails by next summer. My 30 lb goal is for March, don't get me wrong. I'm going to try my hardest to hit that goal, but I'm not going to beat myself up if I don't.

-- How do you want to accomplish your goal (what methods do you want to use)? I am going to count calories and exercise at least three days a week.

-- Who or what can support you in reaching your goal? I'm going to use this board of course and my friends.

-- How realistic is your goal? I hope pretty realistic. What do you guys think?

-- When will you start? I've been starting for two years. lol For this new goal I started Oct. 1st. :)

So there it is folks. I'm just about to eat my first meal of the day, and I'll write back on how it went later.

Thanks for the support,

Tarrish

Hi! I have to respond here because I can't send messages until I've been a member for 5 days.

So I too am counting calories. I hope to stick to less than 1500 calories. I'm not sure what my work out plan is as of yet. I'm going to try to work out at home using a balance ball and a couple of videos. Jogging doesn't work too well for me because it hurts my knees and can hurt my ankle. Our REC has elipticals that I like but last semester those also began to hurt my knees. I think that strength training is something I've lacked in the past and hopefully will pick up. It's not my favorite as it doesn't seem to pass the time as quickly as eliptical training did (I used to read for class while I was doing it). Anywho, that's pretty much my game plan.

So yesterday went pretty well. I did strength training for about thirty minutes, and worked on my arms and legs. Keeping my abdominals nice and tight during the training I'm sure worked on them, but I didn't target them during the exercise. I'll really work on them when I lose a little more weigh. I know core is important, but I'll get there soon.

My friend and I finished our test really early in class, so we went for a thirty minute walk around our campus. It was fun.

My food intake wasn't so bad yesterday, but I did mess up a little bit in the liquids category. I'll write everything down for you right now.

Spaghetti: 390 Cals
Granola Bar: 180 Cals
Vanilla Bean Drink: 240 Cals
Chips: 100 Cals
Chicken and Rice: 400 Cals
Beer: (ahhhh) 400 Cals
Total: 1710

Sooooo, I went over my 1400 goal by 410 calories. Where did I go wrong? Well it's easy to see I shouldn't of had the beer. Beer is my downfall, but I guess this will be my "bad" day out of the week. No beer for me on Saturday. lol I'm still under 2,000 calories so I'm not to down about the mess up. Before I started to count my calories well I was eating around 2,000-2,500 calories so 1710 is still an improvement. I know if I want to see results I'm going to have to pick up my game though.

Not bad

I wouldn't be too down for that either, as you said you're still under 400 cals. It'll get easier to say no to your habits as time goes on, and you push yourself harder. I've been there, and I know how easy it is to just say "screw it" really early on. So keep your chin up, your head on your shoulders and you'll be fine!
Great job on exercise btw, I wish I wasn't sick anymore so I could be doing more.

*Edit*
Oh yeah, and to respond for your note on my diary:
I understand about the low carb diets - I'm a science major...I definitely won't stop eating carbs, but I try to eat whole wheat/muli-grain stuff or just less than I used to. I LOVE carbs so much that I have to limit them to a point or I'll get carried away.
Walking's fine, I can do it. I just feel like I should be doing more when I do. Like I walk every day on campus and try to take stairs when I can...so I feel like I should be doing something that gets my heart rate up more...which is why I loved the eliptical so much. It just felt like I was accomplishing more than walking I love stairs too (I know, I'm weird) but they make me feel good...they're also bad on my knees though. I'll try to get out and walk more though. Maybe tonight I'll take a walk around my new neighborhood. I'm still sick though so I don't really want to. >.<

Hey everybody,

Today wasn't very eventful in my life. I just go up, worked out and went to school. At least I didn't eat out of boredom. On my "lazy" days I would tend to get up and while waiting for school munch on something. Not today which I suppose is an accomplishment. :D

Today's Calories

Chicken/ Mac&Cheese: 404 Cals
Ice Tea: 5 Cals
Kid Size Cheese Burger: 350 Cals
Kid Size Fries: 220 Cals
Grilled Chicken Sandwhich: 510 Cals
Total: 1489

Although the food doesn't look quite as healthy as it should I'm happy with my calorie count today. I could do with some more veggies and fruits. I bought some bananas, so I'll have one for breakfast tomorrow.

Exercise: Today I walked around campus for about 20 minutes, ran around my block for ten minutes as a warm-up and rode my exercise bike for thirty minutes.

I'm doing my weigh in for the lose two lbs a week in October challenge. Wish me luck. :D

Soy Ice Cream

So the stuff I tried was called "Whole Soy & Co." Creme Caramel. It was alright. It definitely isn't ice cream, but it's something sweet, creamy and I don't need lactaid for. So I give it like a 7/10 or something. I almost rather just have some lowfat ice cream or sorbet instead. I don't crave it too often so I may not, we'll see.
The chicken strips are awesome. My roomies from last year and I used to buy them and it wasn't until it was just myself and my boyfriend paying for groceries that I noticed they're kind of expensive. But 100 calories per serving on meat is pretty freaking awesome. And they taste great. I try to buy them at costco instead of safeway because they're cheaper there.

Good for you on calories and exercise! You can work towards super healthy meals with the calorie limit you've set yourself. I'm still trying to add more veggies into my meals and get into the habit of eating smaller portions. Good luck on your weigh in!

I think your caloric intake may be too low, you might want to ask Steve in his diary .. usually you times your weight * 12 = your caloric intake. Take off thirty percent and thats what you should eat for calories to lose weight ..don't want to go too low ..or your body will kick into over starvation mode and when you do eat ..it will pack on the weight ..but if you eat a little through out the day and keep your calories where they should be your body wont really go into starvation mode ...

best wishes Natalie jo :hug2:

Thanks for the concern NJ, but I use to be on a 1200 calorie plan back when I could control my eating habits better. lol Anything below that is unhealthy. I'm going for 1400-1600 calories at the moment, and I'm able to eat throughout the day. The only reason I don't seem to be doing that is because I'm a little lazy when it comes to the morning stuff. If you plan it right you can make those calories go along way. I'm not the kind of person to not eat either...slows down the metabolism. :D I didn't regain any of the 30 lbs from when I was 200 lbs, so I'm pretty confident my body is going to be fine with the caloric intake I'm currently doing. If anything I can always higher it if I feel like my body is saying, "I'm starving!" I'll keep you updated on that.

I have to be at work in five hours so I need some sleep! I'm going to make this fast.

I walked three miles today. It felt great. I never have time to do that, but today I did.

Food

Hamburger: 400
Banana: 110
Ras Ice Tea: 120
Turkey Sandwich: 355
Cookie: 215
Mashed Potatoes: 250
Yogurt: 110
Total: 1550

I'm feeling pretty good with what I did today. No regrets. Now it's time for bed so I can get a nice 12 hour work day in tomorrow. Night!

I have to make this a super short entry because I have to get up for work soon, and I just got off. Doesn't really make to much sense to me either but oh well. :D

Saturday: I consumed 1500 calories, and did a three mile walk.

Sunday: I consumed 1630 calories, and walked for two miles.

I went over thirty calories then I wanted to today, but I'm feeling pretty good about the last two days. Work has been really stressful, so once again I'm proud I didn't go to snack foods to comfort my stress.

I hope I have more time to write a better entry for tomorrow. I get off work at a descent time so I'm sure it will work out.

Niiiiiiight

Don't stress about short entries. As long as you're on here then that's great. Holding yourself to be responsible for one entry a day (or there abouts) is enough to keep yourself in check. Nice job on the walking! I need to walk more...but it's starting to rain and will likely be snowing in just a few weeks.

Yesterday wasn't a great day. Turns out beer is my downfall for sure. This won't be the last time I write this, but the last time I'm going to go crazy over it. I started on my bowling league last night, and there's nothing like bowling and beer. We do it every season, and I know I should learn to control myself a little better, but it's a really fun activity for me. I think I'm just going to have to put in more exercise time for it. Of course I won't over drink as well. I'll drink less than what I did last season.

My calorie count was 1850 with everything combined. Once again I was doing quite well before I hit the bowling alley. lol I'll try better next week. Maybe work around my caloric intake on a healthy level.

Today was my off day from life. I spent the day walking (two miles) and working on my essay for class. Here's what I ate:

Banana: 110
Tacos: 600
Meatloaf/ Potatos: 400
Yogart: 110
Noodles/ Rice: 400

Total: 1620

Twenty calories over, but I'm going to go on a mile walk right now. That will make up for it. Taking my trusty bottle of water with me. :)

Turns out beer is my downfall for sure.
:)

LOL!!! Yup, been there... crappy deal  Congrats on all the walking to- man, I HATE walking... put me on a stairstepper or an eliptical, I'll go for hours, but NO walking! bleh.
ANyways- your doing one hell of a job so far :) Keep it up!

I totally understand where you're coming from. I'm a huge mixed drink person and it takes a lot to get me loopy. I haven't been out since I started dieting...so I suppose I may have to be DD more often than I used to and perhaps I'll just work it off the next day. Nice job on working out and calories though! Do you use a pedometer at all? I can't decide if I want to get one.

Shell: I decided to get a pedometer even though they aren't the most accurate things in the world. It's ok because it gives you a goal to beat, and I love beating goals. They're fun little things to look at, and see how much you've done in a day. They aren't that expensive either. You might like it, and since you can't do a lot of exercise it will work with your walking.

Hey Tarrish...
Thought I would drop in.

I was thinking today that maybe I should pick up a pedometer. How is it going. Omega Margaret uses a Pedometer. I would only use it on my walk or when I go upstairs ... but I am really considering it ..

how is it going with yours, out of curiousity?

Yesterday was bit of a blur. I had to spend all day studying for a test and writing a five page essay. I was fine on time, but then my friend called me saying I needed to come to her house early to help her with her essay. I spent most of the day in front of the computer reading and writing. For that said I didn't get much exercise. I still walked about two miles, but it wasn't all that great. Today seems a little on the dull side as well, but I hope to get more walking in at school.

My calorie count was right on mark. I took in about 1600 calories give or take a few. Even with some beer I stayed in range. It can be done drinkers of the world! lol

I'll write more about today later on during the night.

NJ: The pedometer is going well. I've been a little busy, so I haven't been pushing myself as much as I could, but it's always nice to have a goal to beat. That's what I was telling Shell. Once I get my average for my first week, I'm going to have a number to beat and I will. Every week I'll step it up until I'm hitting 10,000s steps. Then I'll go for 15,000. If that sounds something cool then I'd go for one.

Holy cow, life has been one wild ride for me lately. This, in fact, has not helped my weight loss one bit. Work was crazy the week before the fires started in California, and then once those hit my life was a mess. The fires came dangerously close to my house, almost burnt down my aunt's house and succeeded in burning down some of my friends' houses. Talk about stress. I figure I let the stress get the best of me because I haven't lost any weight what so ever since the 19th.

A lot of the southern California fires actually started on my birthday. After that stress came a fun trip to Vegas for my birthday. It was fun, but lots of calories. I came back home from a fun trip only to find out that my cat had died. He was my buddy and wasn't like most cats. He was actually more like a dog so I had the best of both worlds. Blah

I guess that's why I've been gone for so long, but I'm trying to get back into the swing of things. I don't want to admit that the stress got to me that much, but it just did. At least I didn't gain any weight right??

Today I had about 1,639 calories, and I want to stay there. I went on a twenty minute walk, and I want to do some strength exercises before I sleep.

Sorry hun! That does sound like a stress overload. And super sorry about your cat. Mine died four years ago and I still miss him terribly.
But look on the bright side! You maintained your weight through a trip to Vegas!!! That sounds like quite the accomplishment to me. Congrats.
Good luck on getting that weight training in tonight.

Yesterday I did pretty well. I stayed under 1600 calories even with a beer. Yay. It always makes me happy when I can enjoy a beverage I like and stay in my calorie count limit.

I walked one mile by myself, and one mile with my dog for exercise. I have some strength training to do today, and I need to go out and walk my dog before I leave for school. I'm just so tired right now. I got woken up early in the morning by my friend at work to tell me two of my friends, one being my boss, just got laid off. It was such a shock, and now work is going to be a mess when I go in Saturday. Not looking forward to it. Just when you think you have so much stress you'll burst, something else happens. Blah
