I have a Tanita body-fat scale that is probably about 5-6 years old. I am curious to see if anyone else has experienced something I have with theirs or a similar type scale.
First off, the scale normally indicates a BF% approximately 5% higher than one of these Omron hand-held body fat analyzers at my local gym.
I also have a set of Accu-Measure body fat calipers and use the Suprailliac Fold pinch test. I know single-measurement calipers aren't super accurate but they are usually with in 2-3% of the Omron analyzer at the gym.
However...after 8 weeks of consistent training and decent nutrition both the hand-held analyzer and the calipers showed a respective decrease in my BF%. The Tanita scale, on the other hand, actually changed very little, and when it did it actually showed an INCREASE in my BF%.
I can say with 99% confidence that my BF% did actually decrease slightly as my "gut" was visibly flatter and more muscle definition was evident.
Anybody else run into a "problem" like this?
