Tamara's Diary

I felt like I ate too much today, but end results were that I only consumed 1325 calories. Go me!

However, I lost my job today. So I have no idea if I'll be able to carry on with this diet, or even eat at all. Michael doesn't have a job either at the moment. We'll both be appling to places tomorrow... but... I'm doing so good I don't want to stop now!

My question would be, since my paycheck Wednesday could last me two weeks if I budget it right, but I also have bills to pay...anyways, my question is... can I eat really cheap... but still eat "diet" healthy? Or if I have to eat ramen, which is not nutritious at all, and is 190 calories per 1/2 a pack... and I'm afraid that won't fill me up at all....maybe I could excersise more to make up for it? The thing is I know I HAVE to eat to lose weight.

What do I do???

sorry to hear about your job. It wont be the last one you lose so no worries. The ramen noodles arent the best in the world just remember the seasoning packets are about the worse part. the noodles are fried before they are dried so just remember they arent guiltless. My brother lost weight eating those its just not the perfect food. for you last check try to find the best sales you can. chicken is norm not bad. it just depends because some stores are cheaper than others on different things........

Thanks Hillbilly... I'm went and applied to a couple places today, and I'm going to try my best to stick with the "diet".

Food today: Turkey sandwhich, 2 fruit cups, and a serving of cheesey broccoli rice w/ a piece of italian sausage and onions.

Drinks today: Can of Dr. Pepper, 1c. green tea, water.

Calories total: 1355.

tam I agree with trucker. between the bread, eggs, no cal cooking spray fruits and veggies and some meat its prob close to 30 or maybe 40 a week. I understand when your not working its alot but just try keep getting the food you need.

Hi Tamara,

Sorry to hear about your job. You can eat really healthy on a small budget. Just eat fruits and veggies that are in season etc... By meat that is on sale.... you can keep to your plan. Losing a job is hard, but if you stick to you plan while you struggle through you will be really proud of yourself. You can do it!

When you are on a tight budget, beans can be your very good friend. They are nutritious, have lots of protein and fiber, are filling, and if you rinse the canned beans, low sodium... You can get even cheaper with dried beans... and just some fresh vegetables or even some rice, and you're good..

1 lb bag of brown rice
1 lb bag of black beans (or other beans)
will cost you about 3 dollars add in some tomatoes or some herbs, and you're good for at least a day...

Hey Tam, I copied today's menu and will add the cost of my day.

I realize you're not gonna follow this plan (and probably shouldn't).

This is all about the Benj@min$, not the diet.

B: 1 coffee .20 and 1 diet yogart .40 - 100 cals

AM S: 1 South Beach Snack Bar .48 - 100 cals

L: 4 slices of Buffalo Style Chicken Breast .43 @ slice 1.73 total - 100 cals

PM S: 2 large carrots .16 total and 4 Radishes .16 - Free

D: 1 Starkist Tuna Snack .91 - 210 cals

NS: 1/2 pound of Driscoll Strawberries 1.00 - Free (little later after the berries) 1 Bag of Act II Old Fashioned Natural Popcorn .31 - 75 cals

$5.35

585 Calories.

Wow... the calories seem way too low for me.

I went grocery shopping and spent $65 for Michael and myself...it should last, for, hopefully, about 2 weeks. That leaves us with $67 (after bills) for groceries until we sell our old computer (for about $300, if we're lucky) or one of us finds a job...and Michael (my fiancee) is going for an interview tomorrow...

Todays menu:

Food: 2c. cheerios, 1c. milk. Turkey sandwhich. Tacos w/ onions & cheese. Cerealbar & a fruit cup.

Drinks: 1c. green tea, water.

Calories: 1435

You might consider contacting local churches about getting some short term help. Many churches have food pantries, which they stock for the sole purpose of helping people who find themselves in need. You should not be ashamed to ask for help when you need it, because it is a blessing to help someone in need.

The food pantries at churches are usually a very good source of healthy food, because the people who donate know that it is important that families who need this help get a balanced diet. You will probably find mostly dry goods or canned foods, but that would leave your cash available for spending on meats, milk, eggs, etc.

Many churches also have programs that provide vouchers for gas, food, and even utilities on a short term basis. The Bible mandates that we show mercy and compassion to those in need, and these types of programs are the way many churches reach out and share love with the world. Please consider contacting churches in your area to see if any of this help would be available to you at this time, and once you are back on your feet, maybe you will be able to help someone else, either by giving back in material goods or by volunteering your time and service to others.

I know the Angel Food Ministries is catching on really big down here in Pa.

I notice they don't have any host in Connecticut but I don't know how close you are to any of the borders of a state that might have one. It might be worth clicking on and seeing if it's worth figuring out. *shrugs*

I would've taken up this offer in my hometown if I wasn't on such a strict diet right now, it's a helluva deal for 25.00 and the people I've talked to say it's closer to 100.00 in value now that more industries are jumping on the bandwagon. Sad part was there is too many starchy things in the deal for me.

The first time they did this it jammed our whole town up with people inline. They only sent 1 tractor-trailer load and emptied it in 45 minutes, now it's more organized and enough food for all.

I have no idea if there are any around this area. I doubt it though. Might take a look into it. Thanks! :)

Yesterday I had way too many calories! 1657.
And today I had 1400... a little better... I should try harder to stay under 1400 calories though.

Hello Tamara, lovely to meet you, gosh you sound very much like me!!! Good luck in your endeveur, and congrats on the weight lost so far! I drink Snapple but I dilute it with water so it still tastes alright, but fewer cals! Crystal light also rocks! But I like carbonated flavored waters, sometimes you can find really tastey ones, and it makes me feel like i'm drinking soda!!! There is a god!!!

I'm pregnant. I'll have to catch up with you guys in 8 months when it comes to being on a diet...

wow - congratulations... that's exciting news... :D

Please take care of yourself and stick around- let us know how you're doing...

Congratulations! Call your local United Way - you need to make doubly sure you are getting good nutrition while you are pregnant, and there are agencies in every state that will help expectant mothers in need.

Just a note - finding oneself in need can happen to all of us. I know. The day after my last post in your diary, my husband also lost his job. Things look hopeful as far as him getting another job soon, but it's funny how things happen. Here I was trying to encourage you to find some help, and less than 24 hours later, we are in the same boat!

Anyway, make sure you get enough to eat, and good health care. Start taking your prenatal vitamins if you are not already! And stay positive. A baby is a true miracle, no matter what the timing. :)

And 9 months later...

Had a baby...
And 9 months later...
I'M BACK!!! :D

I'm sorry that I wasen't able to stay in touch like I wanted to. Between moving accross the country, getting married, and preparing for the baby... life has just been busy (oh, and my husband also joined the Army). Not to mention quite some time of not having access to the internet.

I'm so happy! I stepped on the scale today just to see how much I weighed after having my baby (because I wanted to see if I weighed more then I did when I got pregnant... which was 300lbs)... and guess what? I now weigh 282lbs!!! :D

We don't have much money right now, so I can't eat exactally what I want to, but that doesn't mean I can't keep track of my calories and portions...

Sooooo...

Who wants to hear about my baby? Hehe... :p

Michael Edward Walter III was born on March 18th, 2007, delivered cesarean section. He weighed 10lbs, 10.6oz, and he was 22 1/4 inches long! :)
