Tally's Path to Fitness!

Haven't even got time to read your long post right now. But i wanted to pop by. Not sure now if that is even pointless if i am not going to read what you've written. (I will do it later) Seems stupid even. But i am giving you a rep point because your support mean a lot to me. Thanks.

tally, I have to say you have a wonderful attitude and its really refreshing and motivating to see... just wanted to say thanks for being so positive about your journey, it really does wonders for those looking for just that type of support system. you're doing great :beerchug:

Your doing great tally, Your right, you don't have to give up enjoying life while loosing the weight and a fun weekend shouldn't leave you feeling guilty. Good effort :)

I'm back and i read your post properly this time.

Sounds like you worked out something that works well for you. That's good that's what we all need to do.

Being happy is important. Isn't it. :)

Thanks Andrea :) I find that support is very nice to give and get. I know it was a long entry lol feel free to skim based on your available time :) I am still experimenting with things but I have found that trying to do it 100% just makes me give up a lot faster then if I try for 50% at first then increase it with a happy 90% as my goal. Finding a happy medium is the best thing since I can live with that while I can't stand being miserable for very long.

Thanks Josie! It's important to note that this positive attitude was months in the making lol I sometimes would get very upset in the beginning that weight wasn't falling off faster and being scale obsessed. I feel like that is the time when lots of people give up. I hope that my attitude inspires someone to keep going and get just as positive :)

My friend works out 6 days a week and I thought she was nuts! Now she gets so happy that I am doing the same and another friend thinks we are both nuts.. I'm hoping the spirit of movement will touch her too lol

Your doing great tally, Your right, you don't have to give up enjoying life while loosing the weight and a fun weekend shouldn't leave you feeling guilty. Good effort :)

Thank you Bronwyn :) I love that name btw!! I am definitely enjoying life and I made it through that bikini beach workout. It was hard I was laying on the ground after the 22 mins and I don't do that with interval X. I feel that maybe I have gone beyond interval X plus there are some moves like stacking the boxes or side kicks that I feel are misplaced in that program. So goodbye interval X it was nice for the couple of months we spent together :waving:

I have decided then to completely cut out Yoga X as well. I will be doing the HIIT bodyrock workouts 3X's a week and then strength training p90x 3X's a week. I think that should maximize things well out for me. I guess this is test week lol I will stop doing ab workouts after weight lifting too. I will put in some ab workouts on my bodyrock days.

I wanted to get that hot in the face dying feeling at least 3 days a week and interval X used to give that to me but now my fitness level is increasing beyond that!! I used to die during Kenpo in January.

Day 1 – Chest, Shoulders & Triceps
Day 2 – Bodyrock.tv workout
Day 3 – Back & Biceps
Day 4 – Bodyrock.tv workout
Day 5 – Legs & Back
Day 6 – Bodyrock.tv workout -
Day 7 – Rest

The bodyrock workouts this week I believe will be

abs now

abs assasin

right there

Also if I have a day where I seem to eat late and don't want to bounce around there is always yoga x to turn to :) Love that!

On another note it is beautiful and sunny outside for the next 5 days! I plan to wear really light and cute things :) Summer is starting off pretty well!

Keep doing the good stuff everyone!

I never used to be scale obsessed, even when I was on this plan before and I lost many inches... I dont know why I suddenly care about the scale so much? Its so unlike me... but I think I might be a little obsessed lately. it really shouldnt matter since my clothes are getting looser on me, and it really should matter when i go down in clothing sizes... maybe I should just stop weighing myself all together. Your attitude is giving me a bigger reason to just keep on going, regardless of scale weight.

sounds like you definitely ready for the X plus videos :D

I think you are right lol I haven't even looked at any of the other videos besides interval and I really enjoyed that one since it was so short. I have been thinking of getting the dip station but I have no idea where I would put it.. but I want it. lol

It is really hard to get past the scale. I think in the beginning it happens to a lot of people. I was actually skinnier March this time last year. When I had to restart my journey I was highly impatient because I knew it could be done and I was angry at myself for letting things slip so badly before I was able to get back on the wagon.

I had to start thinking of why things had gone wrong though and it really led me back to the fact that even though I was weighing about 124 at the time I kept obsessing about being 122. I was working out so much and was amazingly healthy but the scale kept denying me 122 so during the week before finals I ended taking a break and because I was so annoyed and frustrated I just never got back to it. I just couldn't get skinny enough! That was the mentality that pretty much halted everything so this time I knew I had to focus on being healthy.

I am going to copy and paste an article that I think is important and sometime I have to remind myself and I like reading other peoples words :)

-------------------Bodyrock article------------

A FEW WAYS TO STOP WORRYING ABOUT BEING ‘SKINNY’

People are always trying to get more skinny. It’s the main reason a lot of people start exercising — to lose weight, lose weight, and lose more weight. And no matter how much we lose, there’s always a little bit more to go. Especially for people relatively new to exercising, it’s extremely hard to reach a solid, happy level of satisfaction.

But should being skinny be the ultimate, actual goal of exercise, of any attempt to lose weight? Now, before we get into this question further, one thing we should say: there are people who are just naturally skinny. A lot of this depends on your body type and metabolism, which we’ve talked about elsewhere on the site.

But let’s go back to ‘getting skinny’ as a goal — although exercise will help you lose weight, there’s got to be a better direction than just ‘skinny’. There are a few reasons why we think the whole focus needs to shift, and they drive everything we put on the site. Let’s talk about them.

WHY THE FOCUS SHOULD CHANGE TO ‘GETTING FIT’

Becoming skinny isn’t very realistic over the long term. Besides the fact that the whole process of losing enough weight to actually become fashion-model skinny is really difficult, maintaining it — while still eating well and having enough energy to live your life — is extremely hard.

Getting fit, on the other hand, is far more measurable — you can track your progress, see specific, satisfying changes to your body, and not be holding yourself up to an unrealistic standard.

That’s actually the most important thing — psychologically, it’s far easier to work towards getting fit than getting skinny. One is a specific goal that’s sustainable, the other is a societal idea that changes with the times and is famously elusive.

If your goal is simply ‘to be a skinny person’, you’ll always find ways to not measure up, no matter how skinny you might get. Fundamentally, it’s just not realistic.

When you combine these two things — a realistic physical goal with something that’s actually easy to deal with, psychologically — you’ve got an unstoppable combination. As an overall direction, getting fit is infinitely preferable to getting skinny.

But besides that, there are tons of other benefits, too:

OTHER WAYS GETTING FIT CAN CHANGE YOUR LIFE

Your full-body health. Trying hard to get skinny can have terrible effects on your body, because you likely won’t eat enough, nor will you get a balanced amount of exercise. When you switch your goal to simply ‘getting fit’, it’s much easier to concentrate on making your entire body healthy, and you go from counting and denying calories to something much more healthful, well-rounded, and holistic in approach.

Your everyday strength. This one is great, just because it’s something you might not consider beforehand — but getting fit makes you way stronger (not super-muscular, just stronger!). Those little things you need to do around the house, or anything involving physical strength — they become a huge pleasure when you’re in shape (or even just getting in shape). You’ll seriously enjoy being able to actually feel your body, and feel each muscle as you use them.

Your physical confidence. Connected to that is just the sheer physical confidence that comes from being in shape. It makes you feel grounded, more present, and more at home in your own skin.

Psychological rewards. It’s not just about the attainable psychological rewards of being in shape, but other, more chemical ones, too — nearly nothing about the mad drive to ‘get skinny’ will give you the natural, amazing high that strong exercise will, and it’s proven that you’ll feel way better pursuing a plan that concentrates on fitness rather than one just concerned with dropping the pounds.

Thanks for that article, Tally... it helps to keep things in perspective. How'd everything go this past weekend? Surely not as bingeful as mine was!

Mine was super busy :) lots of projects and stuff but my weekend was pretty good exercise wise probably high on carbs but nothing a little time and lower carb days won't fix :)

My awesome sister is coming to visit early next week which just makes it insane for me. I have a couple of projects due at the end of the week and then finals after that! She is staying for an entire week so I'm currently trying to get a lot of things done which has made into a lunatic! My goal for the next 3 weeks is just to eat sensibly with some obvious high carb days and to try to workout at least 4-6 times a week.

Then after that I can go back to my preferred 6. I just don't want to miss too much time with her so I'm barreling through as much as I can this week. I won't even get one of the project assignments until late in the week so its pretty lame!

I will still be posting here but infrequently and most likey not bothering to log my workouts but my goal is at least 2 strength training days and 2 HIIT days. The weather is super nice out!

I will be doing the good stuff and I hope everyone will be too!

Wow, great job on your weight loss so far! It's very encouraging to hear that P90x really works. Good luck on reaching your goal weight!

Thanks! It really does awesome as long as you keep following the plan or if you go off of it for a bit just go back to it :) I don't really think any plan that makes you eat healthier and workout 6 days a week could go wrong lol

I have been super busy and I haven't been working out as much as I would like trying to get all the projects done with spending some sister time has made me not workout since she got here! I have also gone off the low carb so I jumped on the scale to see what my June weight was and I was pleasantly surprised that I still made goal. Lost 1 pound lol

134 exactly :hurray: So I am done with projects today so I get to start working out and stuff tomorrow and probably doing some sort of low carb again. It's really hard work cooking all the stuff and I just haven't had the time.

I think this is a great way to see that exercising has definitely worked because I feel like my body is burning lots more calories then it would if I was dieting alone. I get to take this week off and its still working for me :) Keeping me from not fitting into my favorite jeans.

Still a week to go til I'm off for the summer! I'm excited :) Life is good.

Well things pretty much went according to plan I worked out less and probably ate more smores and cake, plus bbq while we had guests but eh whatever! It was delicious and I got right back to normal on Monday like I said I would BUT it was harder to get back to it even after such a short break. working out 6 times a week seems like a pain in a butt but since I forced myself to do it on day 1 it got a lot easier.

I knew I didn't want to get back to what I was in January and so I got right back to doing weight training and bodyrock workouts. I restarted phase 1 strength training videos for p90x. I've been wearing cute clothes since the weather is getting warmer :) It's been nice.

I think the hardest thing is when you take a break to get right back to it before you really do some heavy damage and so I tried to improve things earlier. My diet isn't low carb yet since we don't have very much food to cook but I've tried to keep it healthy regardless.

Still more bbq's coming up this month but that isn't too bad to deal with.

Not too much else I just got way more time then I know what to do with since I only have work now... I kind of like being really busy so I've been trying to do some projects around the place and learning new healthy recipes to cook :)

Thats all. I just wanted to write everything is still going good :) I'll probably not lose the pound that I wanted to for July but as long as I don't gain a pound I don't mind lol.

Keep doing the good stuff everyone!

Hi Tally!

You are doing amazing as always! Congrats on the 134 lbs :hurray:!!!

You must look so gorgous and fit in all of your cute little summer outfits!
Your upcoming bbqs sound super yummy and your workouts sound hardcore as always, I know you are really rocking your new body this summer and I hope you feel amazing and beautiful. I missed you and your upbeat posts, thank you for always being such a wonderful support to me! :grouphug:

Thanks Janvier!

This summer has started off pretty slowly lol I have been happily just slumming around and cleaning the house making sure to make it all look super nice :) I have been catching up on ghost whisperer and watching Maury lol. I am working from home some days so it has been super great!

I only worked out 5 times last week because my legs got so sore and yesterday I got unexpectedly busy so I ended up not working out at all. Pretty lame and today I worked out at the normal time and it was supppper warm so I'm changing it up! I decided to work out in the morning so I will have to wake up a little earlier but I would rather work out before my fiance came home so we have longer to hang out and spend together.

I have been wearing shorts and looking pretty cute :) I'm super happy these days. I workout not to lose the last couple of pounds but just to stay healthy. I don't want to gain back the weight mind you but I'm not as gung-ho about my goal. Normally this would be the time where I might just stop but I don't want to be on the roller coaster anymore. I workout to stay healthy and to keep the pounds away. I worked very hard to get to where I am. I made a lot of yesterdays count so today I can be where I am and I keep working out for my tomorrows ;)

My sister is getting much smaller too which is nice. She is getting out to a busy park to walk and jog around it. I am excited for her and our other sister has decided to start trying bodyrock challenges after watching some of the videos! It's funny that I have been able to help my sisters get back on the bandwagon. I think its great it just shows that it's not just about you but many people that you talk to even if it's just over a small amount of time. You can be the inspiration to someone else! I know all of us occasionally need someone to reach out to and re-inspire us.

I hope everyone can find the inspiration to work out today and keep doing it! It might not happen in time for this summer but there are so many more summers to come so don't talk about tomorrow! Make the best of today!!!

Keep doing the good stuff everyone!

Today since I had some time to post I figured I would do a weigh in so I could at least record that too. I'm happy to say I weigh 131.9 :) I still haven't gotten back to eating low carb but that seems to be fine since I'm still losing weight.

Despite the fact that I haven't been perfect with eating my relaxed way with eating has actually helped me more. I used to exercise and diet and would insist on perfection lose 5 pounds then eat something that I wasn't supposed to then gain back all the weight because I got angry at myself and then would eat bad foods for days.

Also when I would plan on eating well and exercising on say Monday I would spend all the weekend to eat all the bad foods so I would end up gaining some extra to lose before I even started working out.

I don't get discouraged by eating ice cream anymore. I just understand to get a smaller bowl and I keep it to one bowl. Sometimes I still eat way too much but I think this time I have been able to relax on things and still workout after I do. I don't want to have to lose this weight next year because I let myself go.

I'm still learning about what I can eat and the portions that I can eat and not gain weight so it's a process but I am happy with it all. It's starting to get warm and i pulled out a pair of pants I hadn't even worn since I got them for Xmas and they were too tight but now they fit really nicely and the waist is too loose but I think its okay.

The fiance has been doing his own thing as far as workouts. He has been taking advantage of his breaks and lunches to just walk around and also on days sometimes he walks all the way to the train stop and just sneaks in some exercise so he doesn't have to come home and workout for an hour. He does come home a bit later sometimes but I think he enjoys that better then coming home and working out.

I hope everyone is doing well with their goals!

I had a nice long 3 day weekend! We ate amazing bbq and drank soda lol My mom told me I was getting too skinny lol but honestly my BMI is actually pretty normal. My family kind of only see's the results of losing weight but I look at things like "can I do a hard workout" and stuff like that. Getting past the pounds and focusing on what I can do and how I can improve my results has gotten me farther then I ever got when I focused on my weight alone.

Talked to a couple who had started a new program that basically just taught them how to be more mindful of their eating.

Their new strategy to eating was:
1. Don't eat when you aren't hungry. Just wait until you are and then eat.
2. When you do eat take more bites so it forces you to eat slower and when you stop being hungry STOP EATING. There is no need to be uncomfortably full. Put the food away and come back to it when you become hungry again.
3. Understand your different levels of hunger. Eat when you are hungry enough to eat but not so hungry that you would end up overeating.
4. Watch your sugar intake! Sugar turns into fat in the system so keep an eye on all the extra sugar that is added especially to juices or even milk.

Anyways the wife had decided to quit weight watchers and wanted something simpler and something that she could stick to for longer. She has apparently already lost more weight and so has her husband.

I found this advice to be kind of natural I guess. I don't force myself to eat breakfast or any other meal and I don't force myself to go to sleep hungry because I shouldn't eat past a certain time. I try to stay away from too much sugar and I only drink coffee, water and a little bit of milk everyday.

I don't do meal replacement or protein shakes. I just eat food when I'm hungry and I try to keep it healthy. I don't keep track of calories. This is what I can do long-term and I think everyone is different. My sister is all about protein bars and shakes and that works for her.

Still doing a combo of bodyrock and p90x

I still sometimes find it hard to workout when I decided to. Sometimes I skip it but I know that I need to keep going regardless and I don't try to make up days. I don't want to get burnt out and I don't want to get discouraged I make the effort and I work out more often then I don't workout.

I think thats it for my weekly update lol I don't really have too much to complain about I am happy with my efforts. I am much smaller then I was in January I don't see myself going back to that. I hope everyone else is getting closer to their goals as well. :)

Looks like you've been having some very good success here! Good job!

I don't think I can give you much advice on your diet / workout setup because it looks very good and you've been having great results.

The only thing I will say is to make sure that this is a lifestyle change. I'm not saying that this is what will happen to you, but many people go back to their previous lifestyle after reaching their goal and rebound their weight right back to where it was. Start to ease into your new lifestyle with the appropriate amount of exercise as well eating healthy. Accept that your a changed person and embrace your new, energetic, unconditionally beautiful body. I'm sure this new lifestyle will make you much happier than your previous one!

OMG Wow! i've just read your diary - it's so inspiring. One thing I stuggle with is motovation for getting up off my ass and exercise and reading this has definately made me realise that it can be done and if I do it I will see results.
You have done fantastically well and should be so proud of yourlself. I'm hoping that in the future I can update my diary the way you have by saying I am reaching my goals and am completely happy and content.

Thanks again for being an inspiration x

Thanks! I think I'm still learning a lot of things about myself but I definitely feel like things make more sense they ever have. My friend is a huge inspiration for me. She also gained a bit around the holidays and then lost if after a while but she has been pretty consistent for almost the entire time I have known her which is probably about 5 years now. I think I learned to kind of relax with things and that I didn't have to insist on 100% dedication all the time.

Occasionally she goes on business trips or camping outings or just sometimes she parties all weekend but I have never seen her unable to fit into any of her clothes. If she gains a bit of weight then its temporary weight and she doesn't worry about it because she knows she will go back to working out. For me that's the kind of attitude I personally need because if I get too angry or disappointed in myself then I tend to quit gain weight and then do it all again. It would be a lot easier I think if I could just always workout or eat exactly like I decided to but I know that won't happen occasionally and I want to make sure to have the right attitude when it doesn't happen :cheers2:

I have found the guilt or the disappointment of being perfect just another thing that I don't really need in my life. Instead I have replaced it with a general feeling of accomplishment. I understand that some people might get too lax but for me its actually more encouraging. It's all what works for you but at some point everyone loses a bit of their dedication to working out so you have to have a bigger goal and for me that bigger goal is being fit and even if I eat a little more a couple of days and maybe skip a couple of workouts I get back to it because fit isn't something you can ever feel like you have completely achieved there is a always a challenge or a feat that can keep you going.

Thank you! I am totally happy to be where I am :) It was hard to start but it became easier. Also occasionally when I take breaks and go back to it then I have the initial lazy butt attitude but I get over it. I know what works for me and what doesn't and not working out has never worked out for me lol so working out is what has to be done.

I enjoy challenging myself and feeling really exhausted after a workout. My fiance's family is in town this week so that has kind of thrown me off. I've put away the dvd's and have replaced them with walking around the city for hours on end. His family loves exploring and they love walking around so we wake up and start going but today I have a bit of a break. I don't think I have lost any weight with how much we have been eating out lol but I also think I have been doing pretty good thanks to all the walking.

The weather is lovely and I have been able to wear a lot of my new clothes! I think its been a pretty happy week. His family is so amazing! My fiance gets crabby with them lol but I love them! They are so sweet. Anywho I hope everyone is still doing the good stuff and working towards your goals!

If you lost 1 pound then you still weigh 1 pound less then you did last week! Progress is progress and you shouldn't be sad to see it :)
