Tally's Path to Fitness

Hi everyone! I started my weightloss journey in January and pretty much rode the fitness wave with the millions of other people that were trying to get fit and fab for the summer and their lifetime :)

January was a rough start! I wanted to quit often but I kept chugging along doing p90x and I didn't attempt too much to start. I still ate pretty badly with having a whole pizza on a weekend. I was just trying to get exercise down and I was also eating a lot healthier then December! The entire holiday season I ate horribly with cookies daily and lots of pie and everything :svengo:

February I started eating a low carb diet the primal blueprint way. Lots of delicious food and the exercise was getting easier. I didn't want to quit anymore for the most part! I still had italian every once in a while but lots of diet improvements this month!

March was fantastic and the end of my first round of p90x! My eating was super stellar and I started exploring harder workouts to improve my fitness :)

April was a decent month lol I exercised lots but my eating was on and off a lot! But I still managed to lose some weight and still kept working hard on exercises.

:hurray:

So stats are

5'3
January 2011 Weight 160
February 2011 Weight 153
March Weight 143
April Weight 139.8
May 2011 Weight 135

Exercise is a combo of things:
p90x (Love the Strengh training ones)
Also P90x+ which I only use interval X
Bodyrock.tv (youtube videos)
Tone it Up girls (youtube videos)

Eating is Under 100 Carbs:
The Primal Blueprint recipes
I stay away from processed foods and make low carb stuff but I do cheat meals and occasionally cheat days in succession if I'm being a bit bad ;)

Drinking is only water, tea and coffee w/skim milk. I don't really like alcohol so I rarely drink and I like soda pop but I stay away from it unless I have a cheat meal. They are not in my regular day to day drinks.

My Current Goal is seeing 125 but if I end up being 130 and I feel good about my body then that's fine too.

I cannot stop exercising because I just gain all the weight back so exercising is a permanent fixture of my life and the low carb thing is actually pretty decent. I don't feel completely horrified by the diet and I enjoy what I eat.

I am 29 and I work and go to school. I also have a fiance who is usually pretty darn awesome!

Good luck getting to your goal :)

Thank you! :)

So I decided to add 1 day of bodyrock only exercises on Day 6 of each week. I don't know which ones I will do but I will post them for my own reference and other peoples. It's hard doing them after an exercise since I'm already pretty tired after working out for an hour so I wanted to do them 100% and then give myself rest day to let my body be sore.

I have noticed that my body hasn't been getting sore at all so I think I have to up the intensity but I don't want to do it so much that I have to walk slowly everywhere lol

Last week on Day 6 I ended up doing only interval X and 1 round of the tone it up girls abs because I was running a bit low on time and the fiance wanted to sleep lol But not too shabby overall.

He is starting his new job next week! I am so excited and happy that he is finally leaving his old job behind. He is getting nervous to actually start somewhere and be in charge of things but I'm not too worried. He is really good at doing stuff. He had to spend lots of time this past couple of days to get my computer running again. I'm just glad to have a computer again! I have been stuck doing projects and midterms so I was busy anyways.

This weeks workouts look like this - Restish Week

Thank you Justina :) I really have enjoyed watching myself find things easier like push ups that aren't on my knees! Everything is starting to feel really strong and I love it! Lots of things that I couldn't do in January very well. It's really satisfying. Of course the weight loss has been wonderful too lol but I love the feeling of smaller and healthier!

Day 7 is definitely rest day lol I usually do stuff if I have been putting it off like random things around the house that need to be cleaned :)

What I love is that I don't worry about my shape 24/7 anymore. Every once in a while I start worrying about when I will reach my goal but I used to spend hours upon hours looking at other people's before and after pictures of their weight loss and reading a whole bunch of stuff but never committing to any workout or any type of eating plan.

Now I spend far less time doing any of that and instead working out and eating the way I decided to eat. It's been really nice worrying about one less thing because I know I am actually working on it and doing relatively well.

January had so many positive things that helped me get started and one of those was it being a New Year! That boosted me a little and feeling like other people were starting their paths to healthiness helped me out too. Plus I knew that it was a pretty decent time to start since I could healthily lose most of my unwanted weight by June. I know summer comes every year but I always want to look good for it lol I really love winter too though since there are so many cute sweaters to wear and now they are coming out with winter jackets that make you look nice :)

My friend complained about the workout machines she loved using at the gym were completely packed but I felt excited to be part of the get healthy throng of people. Now her gym is back to normal but I hope there are still people there who started in January. I hope everyone just changed gyms or something lol

having full machines is a good excuse to try something new in the gym away from your favourite :)

how have your videos been going ?

helllo helllo

Dont i just love reading your diary!! You have totally made good food and excercize become your lifestyle:cheers2: (<--these are freshly squeezed orange juices :D ) HEHEHE
January is a good month to start....or restart...or continue lol...this is when i restarted my diet too...feeling better for it - it is not only looking at the results but the feeling of achivement that you made it happend and you didnt give up - its just awesome!! :hurray:
heheheh funnny you say your gym was fulll...as gyms do fill up in Jan...and go down by March...and start to fill up again now - as they call i in Spain: Operacion Bikini - hhahahah - everybody wanna look good on the beach...i m the constant - always around (well except this past month lol)
Big hugs - hope you had a fantastic weekend!

xo

I like this. I expect after a while of learning and trying this and that everyone finds what suits them best.

Since you are doing so well, have you got any pics up in the before and after section yet?

Learning to love yourself where you are right now is always a big step. I hated being fat, so I always gave up on myself...as If doing that would help me "skip" past it and automatically be skinny...it took me a while but I learned to not be so hard on myself. It is nice!
Love your new journal.

Great job Tally! I remember January when I was planning on really getting into shape. I've been a little slacker than you & I'm not quite as far along but I only really committed like a month ago so I guess mine will come in time. But you are always a fantastic inspiration! Keep up all the great work!

They have been going really well! I think interval X still gets me so winded and I think I don't get even get into plyometrics until about halfway so it seems like my fitness has gotten a lot better. When I first started p90x plyometrics was super hard.

I can also use heavier weights but we haven't gone out bought them yet. I think I need 20-25's now. I started with 5-10 so I'm getting much stronger but my arms still look really soft lol

I didn't even think about the gyms repacking in May lol! I know once the warmer weather starts coming around it's hard not to want to look good in lighter clothing! You are so amazing to have kept the weight off for so long though and then just restart at that same point when you are ready. I AM so envious I can't seem to keep it off unless I keep working at it.

I think I will probably just stick with the diary for now. I feel like I get much more motivation to do something when I write in here and support other peoples diaries.

I still definitely look at KTjeans thread though she is a huge motivator for me. I feel like we both kind of resembled each other at the beginning and I'm still trying to make my way to her after.

Thanks! I really loved your comment and how true it is! I think if lots of people could skip the middle they would but we learn so much in the middle! We have to start thinking in different ways and picking ourselves up and I feel like the skinny is the end results but the mind has such a huge feeling of accomplishment and pride.

You are still gonna look great this summer and you have that amazing trip so I'm jealous! I can't wait to read more of your progress :)

So my weekend was super busy! I went out on Sunday and didn't come back home until late so I ate right away and then realized I still needed to workout so I just did Yoga again since it wouldn't make me sick on a full stomach. It was still a good workout and it reminded me yoga was always a milder option when I feel like I couldn't workout as heavy.

Next week starts Phase 2 again :) I am ditching plyo since its not as hard of a workout. Today's bodyrock is beachfitness. I plan to go ALL out and its nice since its only a 22 minute workout but lots of burning calories and tightening up.

My phase 2 schedule
Day 1 – Chest, Shoulders & Triceps - Ab workout: Tone it up girls Best ab circuit x3
Day 2 – Interval X
Day 3 – Back & Biceps- Ab workout: Tone it up girls Best ab circuit x3
Day 4 – Yoga X (first 50 mins)
Day 5 – Legs & Back, -Ab workout: Tone it up girls Best ab circuit x3
Day 6 – Bodyrock.tv workout
Day 7 – Rest

Eating: Under 100 carbs

I have to run now! I was hoping to add to this but well it's class time :) Keep doing the good stuff everyone!

Thanks we live in a heavy traffic area so it just isn't very scenic so I like to do relaxing stuff inside since I don't like worrying about getting run over.

The bodyrock workout went pretty good :) I can't say excellent as I felt like I was dying on some parts but it was a really good workout lol I was sweating so hard but I am so happy I can tackle the workouts now!

I knew about HIIT when I first started working out and it sounded great short workouts that were supposed to do as much as longer workouts but it was intimidating. I didn't really want to push myself that hard and if I woke up really sore the next day it would have been highly frustrating to me. I was already getting tired doing 50% of my efforts.

I feel like its a reward in some ways for me. I am confident enough in my fitness and wanting to test myself that I get to workout for less time each week which sounds counter-intuitive lol

Some people can start HIIT right away in their fitness but for me personally it would have been too demoralizing. But I'm super excited I'm there now :hurray:

My fiance had orientation yesterday! I don't think I mentioned that it was a project based contract so we are hoping it leads to something more permanent but he really had nothing to lose by taking the job since he could go back to his old job if it doesn't. His old job loves him but he isn't feeling the same love lol So he hasn't actually started the job yet but he is excited to start it since it looks really good on his portfolio.

This weekend my fiance really wanted to go out for breakfast but it was mother's day and we figured it would be super packed so I offered to make him a frittata since I could eat that too. It was super delicious! I also really didn't want to have a high carb day but I definitely feel one coming. I would have gone and ordered pancakes or at least french toast... I love breakfast!

I did however last month cook him banana pecan pancakes and managed not to eat any! I also cooked him banana bread and managed not to eat any of that either... It smelled SOOOO Good! I went to the food network channel to get the recipes for both and they are most definitely fiance approved :)

However not primal blueprint approved lol

I will link the recipes just in case anyone wants to know

The bread I added some vanilla extract and chopped pecans

Frittata recipe

----I would half this if only for 1

Ingredients
1 Tbsp olive oil
2 Tbsp finely chopped onion
1/2 cup or more finely chopped red cabbage
1 cup finely chopped kale
1 finely chopped red or yellow pepper
6 beaten eggs
A sprinkle of dried or fresh herbs (like oregano or basil)
Sausage to serve on the side

Preheat broiler. Warm olive oil in an ovenproof pan and sauté onions until they begin to soften. Add cabbage and sauté about three minutes then add kale and peppers.

sauteeting veggies

Continue to sauté until kale wilts. Add salt and pepper to taste. Pour in eggs, stir quickly then let cook until it just barely begins to set.

adding egg

Put the frittata under a broiler until the top is golden and the eggs are cooked through, 3-5 minutes.

Link to original recipe - but it pretty much says what I have wrote

hey chickie! HIIT sucks! I hate it! But it is soooo effective, we almost have to force ourselves to do it. I have to incorporate that back into my plan at month two, and I'm not looking forward to it, but it DOES help the time go by faster.. thats the only consolation I have  What's really good though is it really does break up the regular cardio routine, and it really does a lot for fat burning so good for you for being able to now! What's your HIIT like? I'm all strictly treadmill. I know tons of crazy people that do the stairmaster :leaving: really have no clue how they can.. i get so tired after interval 2. Also, how's your diet going these days, what's your typical food intake? Just curious as you must be so much tinier now but so active, in a way I would expect you'd be eating more than usual? Great job with everything though, very motivating!!

I get my HIIT workouts from bodyrock.tv's website. This is the one I just did

Here is a breakdown without going to the site

Part #1 = 4 minutes of Interval Training - 30 sec on 10 sec off
Backward Lunge Knee Up (left leg)max. reps during 30 second interval
Backward Lunge Knee Up (right leg)max. reps during 30 second interval
Plank Jumps max. reps during 30 second interval

Part #2 = 2 minute count down
2 walking push Ups + 4 Low Step Touch
Do as many sets as possible

Part #3 = 4 minutes of Interval Training - 4 mins 30 sec on 10 sec off
Jump Forward/Back & Jump Tuckmax. reps during 30 second interval
Side Plank Jump & Push Up (left side)max. reps during 30 second interval
Side Plank Jump & Push Up (right side)max. reps during 30 second interval

Then I did part 1 x2 part2 x3 part3x2 for a total of 22 mins.

I really enjoy the workouts that I can do without leaving my apartment. The traffic to go to the gym can be about 35 mins and then back it takes about 15 if traffic is light but that is still 50 mins I am just sitting in my car so I prefer doing them at home and using that 50 mins of my day doing something else.

She occasionally uses a sandbag and a dip station that I plan to get when we get a bigger place. Right now I have no place to store it so I do a lot of the workouts that just require your body for now. I will be buying my own interval timer at a later date.

My Diet is a bit different then other peoples. Rather then using carbs for energy I use fat. I usually have some low carb snacks that use things like my current snack bar is made with almond meal, unsweetened coconut flakes, crushed pecans, eggs, coconut oil, bit of baking soda, cinnamon and nutmeg with 1 tablespoon of maple sugar as sweetener. So I pretty much cook all of my food.

Lately I have been eating taco meat with lettuce and adding eggs that have been cooked in coconut oil, then another meal will be Moroccan chicken with cauliflower rice, and my last meal might be a cheeseburger on a low carb bun. Then I try to add a bowl of salad if we have any with some avocado's and then I have the bars everyday. I try to change out my snacks when I get bored of them.

I drink only coffee w/skim milk, water or tea. I don't really like alcohol so I only have it maybe a handful of times a year. The only thing I use as a measure of whether I am doing okay is the scale. I don't even really take that seriously. I have a favorite pair of jeans that I love wearing and if it gets very snug I know I have probably been eating too much. The jeans know all I guess lol

I don't try to go into ketosis though. I try to keep my carbs lower then 100 and at least 50 if I can but I have noticed that I have been going very low occasionally because I stopped eating the sprouted grain bread I like so much. I may have to add those back in later but right now I love what I'm eating so I don't miss it too much lol I don't really have a minimum of carbs and honestly you can shed lots of weight in ketosis but I only have 10 pounds to go so I am not in a hurry. I HATE calorie counting though so I never even bother trying to figure out how much I'm eating. I figure if things get loose it means I'm doing good and if it gets tight I'm probably not doing so good lol

Wow girl, thats some pretty heavy stuff. GOOD FOR YOU. I can only imagine how different you look from when you started this lifestyle change. I bet you are loving buying all sorts of smaller sized clothes, arent u ;) Too bad you dont live nearby, I'd love to exercise with you! You sound like a really motivated person, I need more of those types of people around me.

p.s. bf is still eating freakin Cheetos and Pepperidge Farm cookies in front of my face, and he is killing me! ....but at least he ate a piece of fruit along with it yesterday.. that made me feel better.. I guess its the small things hehe :D

My fiance eats pizza all the time! He is a big convenience food guy so if I don't cook he usually just goes and gets something to make but most of the time it's pizza. He sometimes make fettucine alfredo for himself or peanut butter sandwiches. He's also around 6' and he weighs 5 pounds more then when I started in January! He does p90x too but sometimes sporadically and he's not quite into fitness but he still helps motivate me to workout.

He has been a huge help with motivation when I was lacking in it which was sooo needed at the time. He was getting a bit concerned as he was starting to develop a minor stomach and since I wanted to get into shape anyways he figured he would too. I also have found this really great on my part because I feel that once I start getting into fitness it's nice to have someone to do fit things with. We are talking about taking hikes once the weather actually stays nice over a weekend and next month we start the rock climbing gym! Just a 3 week intro offer to see how we like it :)

My body has definitely changed! I can wear my favorite jeans now that didn't even go above my knees in January and I can wear a tight shirt with them and have no muffin top! It's been wonderful! I just feel pretty fantastic overall about the state of my body now. It's nice not being self conscious about it now. I feel normal which is nice :) My arms are still soft but they are much stronger now and they are not nearly as flabby as before. My stomach is a lot smaller and my thighs are also getting much smaller with no huge saddlebags now! :cheers2:

This week he also started working his new job! It has been an adjustment for both of us! He is home less so I am doing more. It keeps me even busier then normal but I refuse to skip workouts and I refuse to get behind on school so I just have to multi-task even more now. I am dealing with it but I pretty much fall asleep right around 11 and wake up at 7:30 now lol

Weather has been so nice lately! I am so happy I can wear cute light things! If not I would probably be hiding in heavier clothing. I love all the women who can wear whatever they please and not care that anything is hanging out. They are so comfortable in their skin! I have always been terribly self conscious of things like that. Which is why some summers seem much hotter since I'm wearing heavy things in August BUT this summer I'm not worried :)

Also I decided not to the ab assasin workout lol I completely forgot to put it on my laptop plus this being week 1 of the new phase is kicking my booty! So I'm doing the tone it up girls best ab circuit workout video x3 on my strength training days :)

Keep doing the good stuff everyone :)

Hi Tally, great to hear how thrilled you are with your hot bod now. Have you given up weighing yourself?

I am the same with regards to body selfconsciousness and it is amazing to see those girls who feel ok by letting it all hang out so to speak. I was never able to do that either, though i have gotten a bit better in recent years. That said, sometimes those confident girls go too far. I'd really rather not see large girls wearing mini skirts - as they do here. That said, at the beach, as far as i am concerned, i am fine with anyone in a bikini. I think because i've seen it in europe with the older set. You don't want to see people deprive themselves of delicious activities because of self-consciousness.

I think because i've seen it in europe with the older set. You don't want to see people deprive themselves of delicious activities because of self-consciousness.

I also find that confident girls also go too far and the whole leggins thing sometimes gets abused! Sometimes those things are very sheer and they should not be considered pants...

I have not completely given up weighing myself although I could start seeing myself give it up. Right now I just record my weight once a month and try to keep this diary current. Since I'm happy with my body I do want to make sure that I stay around the weight and I feel like recording it in here also gives me some accountability.

The summer will slow down my weight loss by a lot. I probably aim for 1-2 pounds a month from June-Sept. I might lose more but with the bbq's, and weekends with friends I'm not sure I will lose that much. My goal is to still exercise regularly but I know that sometimes exercise will be skipped.

It has already started in fact lol Some friends had a very last minute beach house weekend hangout! The fiance and I packed up the pooches and headed to the beach to hangout with 5 other friends :) We ordered pizza's, got ice cream, took walks and just had fun hanging out. My fiance drank beer I just drank water but I did definitely eat pizza and ice cream!

:cheers2:

It was so fun! I made a dessert this week that was healthy and it was supposed to last until next week and I ate it in 2 days... So I knew that I really needed to treat myself to something or I would spend days trying to find something healthy to snack on and eventually just eat something crappy. So I figure this way I eat less calories because I didn't spend days trying to find a certain taste.

I could have easily eaten healthy all weekend if I had chosen. My friends don't make fun of me for being health conscious or try to make me feel bad. I was very happy to eat the pizza and ice cream. I am back on with eating and exercising today. I had lots of fun and if I could go back in time then I would have probably gotten 2 things of ice cream lol but its okay.

One of the great things about being happy with my body is that I don't mind these kinds of weekends. If I was unhappy then I might be a little more sad but that's the great thing about all the work I put into myself since January :) I can now stray for 2 days and not lose a pound this week and I'm happy.

People get very anxious that their lives have to stay a certain way when they are losing weight but it isn't like that. You need to keep exercising and eating well more days then you don't but occasional pizza weekends are fine.

So my workouts were obviously skipped! So I'm making a different workout schedule with some of my missed workouts. I think I will probably have to start making Sundays rest day but here are my workouts for the next 2 days.

Day 1 – bodyrock bikini workout
Day 2 – Legs & Back, Tone it up girls best ab circuit 1 round

Hotbody bikini workout - Different then last ones
