A
Finished it in 45.37 - so close!!!  If I didn't stop to talk with MIL I would have done it!  That's ok - I have registered in another race in October - so I should be able to do it for sure then!!! :)
:hurray::hurray::hurray::hurray::hurray::hurray::hurray::hurray:
WAY TO GO!!! That is a great time...I am so proud of you!! U make me want to get out and run!!! :)

We are going to Hawaii in December and I am contemplating running in the 10K that goes allong with the marathon. Am I crazy?? Could I even do a 10K????? Wow - I think I might just have to do it!!!!! ;)

AWow a 10k!! that is nuts....good for you!!! I couldn't even imagine running almost 7 miles at once...you go girl!!! and Hawaii sounds fabulous :)

ok - got my 'official' 5K training plan (I have 1 more 5K race before we go to hawaii) that will merge with my 10K training plan. First official day is tomorrow. Let's hope the kids, the dog, the house and the husband all cooperate so that I can get my run in!! :willy_nilly:

Eating plan for this month was made up by my husband so I might have to tweak it a bit! lol It does look very yummy!!

AOh awesome! Have you signed up for the 10k? That is totally crazy, but what awesome motivation! You can do it, and it gives you enough time to truly get ready for it!

Hope your first day went well and everyone/everything co-operated for you! :)

your husband does a monthly eating plan? Cool! What does it entail?

AThat is amazing, well bloody done!!!! :D I'm so chuffed for you!

Really happy to see your inches are going down as well!

I like your problems....... solutions thing that you did. Think I need to do something similar actually. Its really good that you are thinking of ways to not make excuses or give in.

Also thought I'd stick in my twopennies worth about the extract from that book. I think that some of it is poppycock! All calories are equal. She compares chocolate m&m's to almonds, when chocolate is actually low gi (m&m's have a GI of 33), and will not rise your blood sugar significantly enough to cause cravings. If she had said jelly beans then I might have agreed, or if she pointed out the healthy fats in almonds I may have agreed. She also said that not eating regular meals throughout the day will cause your metabolism to drop. This isn't true, the only thing that causes metabolism to drop is loss of muscle as each pound of inactive muscle burns 50 calories a day. You will not lose muscle if you leave a gap of 5 hours in between meals. Number three... Counting calories won't make you have a food disorder (unless you are one of the unlucky few to be predisposed to one), and even if there is a margin of error of 50 calories per meal/snack, its still a effective tool to help you understand what you are eating and lose weight. After all, losing weight comes down to taking in less calories than your putting out. I am with forty four and her on the exercise calorie counting... you can go too far. But its still sometimes nice to know a rough estimate.

Thanks ladies!! My first (and second) day of training went really well - I had no idea I could actually run for 25 minutes straight!! The first workout was a plain run and the second had 'pickups' where you speed up for a little while and then go back to your easy run pace - very cool! I toatlly know what my runner friends mean now when they say that they love running and they get that runner's high!

At our house we do up a monthly menu for suppers (and often lunches) so that we can save money, save time and be less wasteful - it has been working really well, especially when I am working. We are able to eat healthier to (and we are sure to have all the ingredients on hand!). I normally do it up, but this month hubby offered to do it. We have about 30 meals that we cycle through each month. It makes buying groceries much easier to.

Love this! what a great idea...planning or the lack of in my case is the reason we eat out so much....and when i do cook its the same 5 meals its seems like over and over!! kudos for you..such a great time and money saver!! :)

ALove seeing your stats!!! keep up the great work!! So many of us are so so close to the 170's....we can do it!!

Well done hun on losing 50 pounds, wow that is incredible!!:hurray:That is such a huge achievement:)

You have just motivated me for the day!!! Well done girley:)xoxox

Thanks for all the encouragement!

Today for the monthly challenge I weighed in at 185 lbs. That means I only have 40 more lbs to go to get to my goal weight. :) I didn't get my long run in on Sunday and I don't think I can do it today (I overscheduled myself with teaching fitness classes). I think it will be ok becuase I will just start back on Tuesday (today was supposed to be my rest day.). Next race is on Sunday just a 2K but still something to look forward to.

Wow - where has the time gone???? I can't believe that it is almost mid October. I think I have become a little too happy with my current weight! I need to make myself uncomfortable with it so that I can continue to lose. I am just so proud of my accomplishment that I want to enjoy it for a bit! :)

I did my training run tonight and I did 5 K in 43 minutes!!! Race day is Suday so I hope I ca do it outside in the morning - not just at night on the treadmill! :) Not a huge month for lbs, but pretty good for inches!!!

Well done on the 5k in 43mins. You'll be fine outdoors - if anything it will go quicker and easier than a treadmill as you will get distracted by your surroundings more. Once I started running outside, I haven't been back on a treadmill since. I was nervous at my first outdoor race - it is different with everybody but it is also nice having people cheer you on. My first ever run with other people was a 10km race for charity so there were a lot of people running in memory of family members that had died from cancer and towards the end people were quite emotional and we were all saying things like "keep going, your mum would have been proud of you" so it was actually quite a special experience.

Thanks Jay!!!

This month has been super busy and crazy!!! I am hoping to get back on track for November. We leave for Hawaii on December 1st so I have one month to really get things going!! I also start back to work mid December so I have lots motivating me for November! I am currently 183 (182 on the scale this morning - but not official! lol) My goal is to loose 8 lbs and put me in at 175 lbs the day before we leave on vacation. A tall order but, if I can make being healthy my number 1 goal then it is totally possible. I will need to put together our packing and travel plan so that my husband can help out and get things done for me! I need to get more serious about weight training - I know how important it is but I keep skipping it. Cardio - I have no problem doing, but the weights just aren't that interesting right now. I will need to put my motivational poster back up where I can see it first thing in the morning. That might help.

Woooo Whoooo! Finished my 5K in 41 minutes and 52 seconds!!!!! I am soooo happy with that! My friend that I ran it with is 'into running' so she really pushed me hard - I had to take a couple long walk breaks 'cause I got a stitch. Ouch!! Any ideas on preventing them, or dealing with them on race day? I never get them during training but I think that is becuase I have been running on the treadmill so I know when the incline is coming and the increase in speed. It was sooooo cold out the morning of the race (4 degrees C) and for the warm up they had us do static stretches???????!!!!!! I didn't know that people still did that? It is my understanding that you never do static stretches before working out (only dynamic) expecially when it is cold or you could cause injury - anyone heard differently???

I am really excited for the 10 K in December - I get to now move on to the next phase of my training plan - the 10k distance! I am hoping to finish this race in under 2 hours. I thin kthat will bbe doable - even if I have to walk alot.

Soon I get to go buy new running shoes! So exciting!! :)
