Taking the next step...

Greetings!

I've joined these forums in hopes of gaining knowledge related to training techniques and fitness/nutrition to take myself to the next level, so to speak.

Over the last 3 1/2 years, I've slowly worked my way from 275 lbs down to about 190(at a height of 6'6"), and I feel so much better in so many ways. I'm about where I want to be weight-wise, but still have some work to do in terms of overall fitness and body composition. I'm hoping to learn from people here who have gone through the same journey, in hopes that I can improve what I'm doing in my training and/or nutrition.

I look forward to being a member of the community.

Wow nice job on the 85lb loss. So what did you do to drop the weight.

Nothing too exotic - The first 25-30 lbs was basically controlling my diet a bit - for a while in the past I used to struggle with binge eating. After that, I added some cardio(mostly running), but it wasn't really until the past 7-8 months in which I got a lot more serious about physical conditioning - i.e. improving both my strength and endurance.

More than anything, it was just a matter of finally finding a routine that works for me. I think initially fear of being seen as the weak/out of shape guy at the gym served as a deterrent to me, but once I got going and started getting in better shape, I stopped worrying about that, and things have just gotten easier. Now working out is something I look forward to(most of the time), as something that can help me relax mentally.
