wrote this up the other day..
It may seem counterintuitive to ‘take a break’ from training, but it can actually be very good for your mind and your body.
When we put our bodies through the training and/or cardio for an extended period of time, not only do we exhaust ourselves, but we run the risk of hitting a brick wall and ceasing progress. While changing your routine is key to avoiding plateau, giving your body rest periods is also very important. By giving yourself a 1 or 2 week rest from training and hardcore dieting you can not only ease your mind, but also allow your body to recuperate. When you come back into it you will be fully rejuvinated and ready to give it your all!
If you take a break and find that you are losing a little bit of muscle mass or gaining a little fat, do not fret. Whatever progress you ‘lose’ while on your rest period, you will soon gain back once you return to your regular routine.
When you take a break you should allow yourself to indulge a little in foods that you might not have while sticking to your regimen. This does not mean to go out and pound a few cheeseburgers every day, but allow yourself a few treats. As long as you keep things in moderation and maintain an overall healthy diet you should be just fine. Remember, just because YOU know you are on a break, does not mean your body does. If you treat it poorly, it will react accordingly.
Enjoy your break!
