Taking a day off?

So I decided to take a day off from healthy eating and exercise. So far I have lost 7 pounds and have participated in my first 3 mile community jog. Never in a million years did I think I would participate in a running event, but it was actually lots of fun. Since then I have been regularly walking and jogging. But when I woke up this morning I felt myself unable to adhere to my routine dietary guidelines and fitness routine.

To those of you who have lost weight so far, what are your thoughts on taking a day off? Does it work for you and help keep you sane or do you find it to sabotage your hard work? Any input is appreciated. Thanks!

I always take a day off, even two sometimes ^^; I cant diet very long without feeling down so it's good for morale and to actually keep on going.
I dont splurge tho, dont go over my daily burned calories aka +- 1800-2000 kcal. .. =) and sometimes I skip gym, yawn.

i never really take an entire day off. if i'm going to eat something not so good, as in i'm going to a birthday party and eating cake/ice cream, i'll go to the gym. if i'm going to stick to my diet all day, then i can skip the gym if i really need/want to. sometimes my body just doesn't feel like working out...i think it's okay to take a day off from the gym or doing any type of physical activity if i'm going to eat right.

Should I take a day off from living and eating right?

Changing your life style from being overweight and unhealthy to being healthy
should be something one would enjoy doing. If you enjoy your new life style
why would you want to go back to what you have left behind.

That's like visiting an old Girl/Boyfriend that you wanted to be away from.
If your desires are to revisit the old you, fat and unhealthy, you will probably
be moving back in soon.

Don't do it, keep telling yourself, HERE is where you want to be and here is
where you are going to stay. Keep a positive mind, keep affirming what you want,
you are too beautiful to turn back now.

it is not that you don't enjoy your new healthy life style, sometimes you just want a slice of pizza or a bit of ice cream or even skip gym and I don't think there's nothing wrong with it! it is all about BALANCE. if you push yourself too hard and punish yourself from all the ''bad'' food without resting moderately once in a while it will have the opposite effect: you will want to binge and finally fall off the wagon.

eating healthy shouldn't be a way of torturing yourself.
we can eat a bit of everything, moderation is key!

There's a sticky in the Nutrition forum that discusses in detail the pros of having cheat days.

Rather than a cheat day being the first step down a slippery slope, I think it's a way to keep things you enjoy in your overall healthy lifestyle. People often feel overwhelmed with dieting because they think they have to "give up" everything, and take it to such an extreme (largely due to self-esteem issues) that when they finally cut loose again (reach maintenance weight, feel better about themselves, etc) they just jump off a cliff.

I've been maintaining a healthy lifestyle for nearly five years, and I've ALWAYS had a cheat day. It's not an excuse to binge or drink myself into oblivion, but it's been a great way to keep myself on track.

Here's the link to the sticky I mentioned:
