I accidentally deleted my first journal!!!
Tomorrow marks week 3 of my new life

Tomorrow is weigh in day. I've been working out a lot and eating great, but I got on the scale this morning and it said I gained a pound! :( I am a little upset. I'm so glad I took me measurements though. I've lost half an inch around my waist and my pants feel looser. It still sucks. Tomorrow is week 3 that I started. I should be 6 lbs down and instead I've only been losing like 1 lb a week

ok so I'm going to re explain my history. I'm in my late 20's. 5'5. I have 2 young kids, less than 2 yrs apart. My youngest is 1.5. I am a graduate student and start my first internship in August. I weigh about the same as I did before I got pg with my first, but am a couple sizes bigger because it's all flab instead of muscle. I need to exercise, and I'm eating about 1400-1500 calories a day. I'm also trying to increase my fiber

My weakness is sweets and I used to have a dessert like 5 days a week. I don't overeat other foods. Another problem that added to my weight is we ate out a lot due to convenience. That's obviously unhealthy and filled with calories. So I've joined a gym, bought a new bike and am ready to get working. Like I said, this is my 3rd week and I'm still very motivated. I just can't seem to drop more than 1 lb a week. This week has been horrible. Almost every day I'm getting in like 1100 calories juts because I"m so busy and my body seems to hold onto the weight. I need to eat more. :ack2:

goals--
increase exercise--cardio-- at least 30 min 3 times a week and go up from there. stretching --daily for at least 20 min
Increase fiber
eat healthy, little/no fast food. eat 1400-1500cals a day
small dessert portions no more than 3 times a week
no eating past 7PM

So sorry you deleted your old journal! I was wondering where you were. Don't feel too sad about the slow progress, mine has been slow too. But like you I am feeling like my clothes are fitting a little better these days. It is frustrating when you think you will lose a certain amount each week and you have an idea of where you should be by a certain date and it doesn't happen. I feel your pain, but remember, we are still making progress. Slow and steady wins the race!

I agree with funmom... you know it took me about 1.5-2 months before I even lost 1 lb?? Now I think my muscle and fat have reached an equal and this week I think I have just started to steadily lose (at amost 2.5 months). Fortunately I started taking measurements after my first month and after my second month, I had lost 1.25 around my waist!! Measurements are certainly awesome :D

Just keep going. You are clearly very motivated. You'll have good weeks and bad weeks. Don't stress.

thank you funmom and adeon. I really needed that. I think I'm going to stop weighing myself all the time. It's just too depressing to be doing all this work and not see results on the scale. Last night I was so so hungry and I almost made my way to the kitchen to eat and I thought to myself, "well I'm not seeing any results anyway, might as well as not be hungry" I quickly snapped out of it and realized how silly that was. It's been only 3 weeks, can't expect change over night. So I went to bed instead.

I have to seriously stop thinking anything less than losing 2 lbs a week is a failure. I mean I can feel a slight difference in my clothes. Ugh yup, it's definitely time to ditch the scale, I'm going to sabotage myself

So, that stinks about deleting your old journal...

Good thing about ditching the scale. Weighing yourself everyday isn't good for ya, just because the scale can make or break our days very easily. I only weigh myself probably every 2 weeks or so...

Great to hear you didn't give into the eating before bed. I sometimes struggle with that myself. What helps me is having some water, or a little cottage cheese. Both seem to do the trick and not sacrifice all the hard work I had done that day :)

Take Care,
Sam

Thanks Sam. Every time I see cottage cheese I think of you. But It really is a great snack hehe

yesterday
CALORIES 1,346
CARBS 142
FAT 61
PROTEIN 63

I wish I had my old journal to have all my former food intake. I noticed my fat intake it usually on the high end or over of what sparkpeople recommends. Could that be a big reason I'm not losing the weight? This is my first time trying to lose weight. So should I go lower carbs, higher protein and lower fat???

If I should go lower fat, does anyone have any food recs for me? Getting the recommended protein is super hard for me, but I can make it thanks to protein shakes.... thank you

Protein can be a struggle to get in... I haven't been getting enough, or the amount I used to fit into my diet, lately... Protein shakes help for sure but it's kinda tricky sometimes to get a lot in from food sources. I just try to keep my house full of protein rich foods, such as: chicken, tuna, salmon burgers, sliced turkey, swiss cheese, cottage cheese, skim milk, whey protein, and I usually have some frozen edamame in the freezer. It's a nice snack that has some decent protein found in it... You might want to check it out but, it's not for everyone. Another good thing is to find a cereal that is protein rich. I know some servings of Kashi have 10 or so grams in them...

Hang in there, your doing great! 2 more hours till i'm outta work and off to enjoy my nice 3 day weekend... It's going to be hot though :(

-Sam

I'm gonna figure out what the heck frozen edamame is and try it out. Thanks again, you're the best :)

Ok, I just got back from a jog/run. I'm all sweaty and gross and can I just say that I HATE the way my thighs rub together when I"m wearing shorts. I"m going to be so thrilled when that goes away. I"m going to have a party in a few months when I can report it's no longer an issue lol

Before my jog/walk, I worked out all my arm muscles--the 3 of them. 3 sets of 10 on each muscle, 20 squats with 10 lb weights, and 10 stationary lunges. I also did 25 crunches, 30 leg lifts, and about 5 minutes of stretching all my leg muscles

today

CALORIES 1,373
CARBS165
FAT 78
PROTEIN 103

UGH Over again in FAT.

Today for breakfast I ate Special K (I alternate days btwn Special K and Kashi GO Lean Crunch), and half a banana

lunch-- 1/2 can of Progresso Chicken noodle soup and an apple

Snack--1 protein whey shake

Dinner--ground turkey meatloaf, steamed broccoli, steam cauliflower and carrots, and a tiny serving of scalloped potatoes.

dessert--about 400 calories from a brownie (3ish oz). That had 25 grams of fat in it. UGH why did I have to eat it. And why was it so big?!?!?!

I'm going to hit the shower. Tomorrow, I'm going to plug in what I eat before I eat it so I can decide if I need to choose something else. My fat intake has got to go down. That has to be why I"m not dropping enough weight. Ugh I feel like such a fat ass right now :(

Hey, don't be that hard on yourself, you are doing great!

Your exercise routine sounds much like mine, maybe we can team up on that!

My name is Anke by the way, and I'm 20 yrs old. Need to lose 30 or so pounds still. See ya!

I don't think your numbers add up. Both days that you posted don't add up properly. But here's today's:

Fat: 78g *9 (9 cals/gram) = 702
Carb: 165g *4 (4 cals/gram) = 660
Pro: 103g *4 (4 cals/gram) = 412

702 + 660 + 412 = 1774 calories

Your macros break down as follows: 40% calories from fat, 37% from carb, 23% from protein.

Your fat is too high. Can you do something like 25f/45c/30p? On a 1300 calorie diet that works out to about: 40g fat, 155g carb, 100g protein.

Good for you for planning ahead. It's the way to go. I find if I don't I may run out of calories or run my fat too high too early in the day and then I have to eat something I'm not really in the mood for in the evening just to keep everything in line. But when I plan the next day's food ahead of time, I avoid that and enjoy my food much, much more.

Good luck!

Thanks Anke. That's cool that our exercise is similar. I like doing a little lifting and lots of stretching before going out and jogging. It really helps rev up my energy so I can give more to my run hehe. I"m not usually so hard on myself. I was having such a hard night.

RANT AHEAD, Feel free to skip LOL---- My husband has completely stopped helping me around the house even though he brags that he loves it so much, has no stress etc. I wish I could sit at my desk and just do programming like he does....Sign me up, I miss working lol.....If I wasn't getting my master's degree, I'd be loving a full time job right now. So I'm at home with my kids and I love them more than anything, but I NEVER get a freaking break. ever. I'm so freaking excited for school to start in July so I can get a break and actually have a life of my own. Then he will have the kids for a few hrs a week instead of me all. the. time.

TDF--wow I had no idea you could even break the cals down like that from the intake of each. that's very neat. Thank you so much for doing that for me. I use SparkPeople and just enter what I eat, then it calculates it for me. Do you think SP could be doing it wrong??? Should I try FitDay, or something else?? wow yesterday 40% of my calories are calories from fat. Such an eye opener. 25 g of fat from a brownie, and 35g of fat from the protein shake....

alright, so we have a whole pan of brownies in the freezer. DH will be pissed, but those suckers and going in the garbage right after I post this. I'm not even telling him before I do it. They getting dumped and he can have a tantrum when he gets home. hehe And I'm going to look around and see if I can find a better protein shake with less fat in it. I need something to help me get the protein in

And yes, I'm plugging in my food choices before I eat them and making decisions based on that

oh and my before pics. These were in my old journal, taken June 2nd. THese are hard to post, but I need to make myself uncomfortable so I keep wanting a change

the pregnant belly. I'm surprised people haven't asked me if I'm pregnant. Sometimes I wonder if I am myself lol. Ugh

Skim milk and low fat or fat free yogurt would make a big difference. I'm not sure what your using now, but I know that 1 250ml carton of 2% milk is 130 calories and 5g of fat and the same amount of skim milk is 90 calories and 0.5g of fat.

1 cup of yogurt is 210 cals and 3g of fat, while the same amount of fat free yogurt is 110 cals and 0.4g of fat. Now thats 8g of fat removed.

oh yeah adeon. I didn't even think of that. That is a fantastic point. I use 2% milk and full fat yogurt because my kids eat it and I think it's good for them. But I'll start buying myself different yogurt. Thank you SO MUCH, and what an easy change to do. I really need to get in the habit of looking at the label before I eat it. I've never done it and now I"ll glance at the calories, but now I'm going to pay attention to the fat too

Couldn't help it--got on the scale this morning. 166.2:party: I guess I'm just losing a little less than a pound a week and I can handle it. I"m working really hard and it will come off a little at a time, but...it is coming off and that's the important thing. Maybe I"ll just have a big drop one week if I keep working on it this hard

Last night I couldn't figure out low fat foods, high in calories and high in protein (because I was low on my cals again but wasn't terribly hungry because I eat so often) So for dinner, I just ate a bunch of broccoli, cauliflower, and carrots, hard boiled egg, and a few bites of leftover ground turkey meatloaf. I really need to figure out foods that are lower in fat. But I checked my yogurt and it Yoplait 99% fat free. I didn't even know it lol

ok, we're leaving on a little vacation until Monday. We're picking up lots of veggies & healthier snacks, so hopefully that will help. Our hotel room doesn't have a mini kitchen. But we're taking the lap top, so that when we figure out where we're going to go out to eat, I can look up the menu and nutrition content. I'll be back Monday night or Tues morning.

I hope everyone has a great weekend :)

Congrats on the weight loss! I saw your post where you posted your pics and you joked about looking pregnant, (you don't by the way). Right before I started trying to lose weight one of my stupider, no social skills co-workers asked me if I was pregnant...3 different times! Every time I told her no she would say, "come on, really?" It was so rude, but it was also the kick in the pants I needed to get moving.

I am still struggling myself with trying to increase my protein without adding a bunch of fat or sugar to my diet. Once I figure out how I will let you know.

You are doing great, keep up the good work!

99% fat free is 1% fat... that means low fat yogurt.

And another tip is to not eat the yolk of the egg, just the white... high in protein and low fat (or fat free, not sure). There are some cool ways of eating egg whites... google it :)

Funmom, ugh. That's gotta suck. Right up there when I was actually pregnant with my first and my coworkers would say GEEZ YOU"RE HUGE, and are you sure you're not having triplets etc ugh. Not ok to say that

thanks Anke

So, we had so much fun on our vacation. I ate junk, but made sure it was less than 1700 calories of junk to at least maintain my weight on vacation. I snuck in here a few times really quickly without posting to keep up my motivation. If I didn't have this site, I don't think I'd be able to keep up my motivation.
I ate lots of grilled chicken, and the last night, we had pizza and Dairy Queen. I had one slice of pizza and ordered a vanilla cone instead of the yummy peanut buster parfait that I really wanted. I had some french fries, but only 10 or so. I limited it because I know how bad they are. when we got home, Dh was grilling up burgers, and I asked him to grill me a chicken breast to help a little from the sodium etc from the fast food. we had lots of fruits and veggies along, and that definitely helped. I still feel a little bloated and can't wait to drink lots of water to flush everything out and get back to eating normal food.

we went on a 1 mile walk the first night behind the hotel in the woods. we also did lots of walking around the Grand Canyon. I even got in my leg lifts, arm lifts, and crunches one day. Tonight, we're going grocery shopping and I'm going for another jog.

Good Job!!! It sounds like your doing excellent keeping everything in check and stuff. Portion control and moderation are key, and it sounds like you've got that down :)

Its funny you mentioned that. When I was 5months pregnant I was in the grocery store and this woman looked at my belly and said "Any day now!" and I was like Ummmmmmm I still have a good 4 months to go and than she replied with "Oh big baby than!"... I was like... I know, your basically wanting to say IM FAT without actually saying it lol
