Tae Bo, Does It Work??

Ok so ive read on these forums that tae bo seems to be a good choice to get fit, does it actually work??

I dont see why it wouldnt its cardio and as long as your gettin your heart rate up there should be a good way to put some variety into a workout

I have no clue about Tae Bo, but I do practice Shotokan, and I can tell you this.

30 minutes of constantly doing techniques, kata, and sparring is a great cardio workout!

I don't see how tae bo can't be a good one.

I think its just like any other excersie it just depends on your intensity it wont do anything if you slack but if you give it effort you will see results :)

I do tae bo daily for about 30 min and let me tell you. It makes me sweat big time. Your constantly moving. I'm losing a pretty good amount of weight from it too. Its a great cardio workout.

It's a good workout, but it stinks of fad. If you're serious about it, it's good stuff -- my mom and her friends all bought the VHS's but never used them. It's easy to get excited about an easy fix and then give up -- it's harder to realize that for it to work, it's going to be a hard fix.

I've seen a Taebo DVD that looks interesting. What is it exactly? Is it some mix of martial arts / aerobics?

edit, from dictionary.com:
Definition: an exercise program combining elements of boxing, dance, and tae kwon do; also written taebo
Etymology: created by Billy Blanks, karate medalist

Sounds to me like a fun way to get a good cardio workout. I think variety and interest and fun are very important if you want to make exercise something you stick with.

it might not be a bad idea to keep some dvds at home for when it's bad weatheer and you can't get to the park. maybe not for your only workout, tho,.

I've now tried out Tae Bo. It's really a cardio workout with some muscular endurance thrown in and some kicking and punching as moves instead of typical aerobics stuff. To be honest, a lot of fitness DVDS are focused on women. It's nice to have one that is a bit more of a guy thing. If it works for you depends on what you want to achieve. I do have 2 issues with the one that I have:

1. a bit much focus on anaerobic exercises for anyone who is doing it while doing weight training
2. won't get your heart rate up as high as running

But still I only have the "Flex" DVD, the others might be different.

I feel like Tae Bo is a "guy thing" like Tony Little's workouts are a "guy thing". It may seem that way, but really, you're talking about a program that's marketed primarily towards women (who are generally the prime market for workout-with-your-TV types of deals).

I've done a bit of Tae Bo at school and personally, I think it's stupid. Then again, that's because I'd rather do other aerobic workouts - if this works for you, as long as it gets you moving, that's fine. Although it has some "martial arts" thrown in, don't expect Tae Bo to help you out much if you happen to get in a fight.

Conclusion? It's not for me, but if you guys like it, stick to it!
