what are the benifits for swimming? i`d love to know how many caleries it burns but is that imposable to measure?

Something I read not too long ago is that swimming probably isn't the way to go if you want to lose weight. From the article I read, you want to increase your body temperature, and swimming in water that is at constant temperature won't allow you to do that.
Here's an article I just looked up:
[removed - informative, but still leads to a page with tons of advertising etc.]
I'm sure there's more out there, but that's a good start.

I've heard it both ways... from some that swimming is the best form of exercise as it gets you using everything, from others that it's not very good.

What is true is that ANY form of exercise is going to help you lose weight- you have to burn calories to find the energy to swim, afterall.

Not sure if it is better or worse than other cardio exercise when it comes to burning calories, but it is certainly better when you're extremely heavy or have problems with your joints. No impact during swimming, so you won't risk doing any damage to your knees, ankles or other parts that have to 'cushion' your weight during most other cardio exercises.
