Hello. My name is Jeremy and I am a student attending Texas Tech University. I am 22 years old, and I am currently 255 lbs. I haven't measured my height in years but I am probably about 5'7'' or 8''.

I have been big most of my life. It started in 3rd or 4th grade. I can tell by looking at my old yearbooks. I've always been pretty well liked and never picked on very much at all.

There was only one time in my life that I wasn't big. In the middle of my junior year of high school my mother got us started on the Atkins low carb diet. I had no idea what was going on as far as the rules or anything. I just ate all my meals at home and drove home for lunch when I was in school. My mom made everything and it was delicious. Coming from a Mexican family, I did miss tortillas and all that other awesome stuff she used to make, but after a while it was easy. At the start of my senior year in high school I weighed 165 lbs. I felt great and found a new girlfriend. This was devastating to me though. She always wanted to eat out and in a short 6 months, half of the weight was back, the rest following a few years later.

It didn't stop there though, the most I've ever weighed was 265 and that was only a couple of months ago. I've been off and on the Atkins diet, but its so easy to get offtrack with no support. I had another girlfriend when I came to Texas Tech that I dated for two years. When we first started going out, we would work out every night and I made it to about 225lbs, but then we started working more (and working at Sonic doesn't help) so I gained it back again.

I could go on and on about my yo-yo dieting and exercising, but to sum it up, I want this to be the last time.

I have been on the Atkins for a couple weeks now and have lost 5 pounds.

The main threat I have to being successful is drinking. All of my friends drink and its nearly impossible to hang out and be social and not drink. The thing is every single one of my friends look great! I'm the only big kid on the team. But when I drink, then I figure "oh well I already have those carbs, might as well have a burger and I'll start the diet tomorrow" and this goes on until I've been cheating for a week, and have to start from scratch again.

I'm much to insecure to discuss my problem with my friends. That is why I'm here.

This forum is my chance to reach out for some help. Maybe if I can keep my diary updated and my motivation high, I can get back to a much happier me. I do not know if anyone is interested in comparing weight loss, or if there is something similar on this site. I just know I tend to do better at things if there is some competition involved.

Thank you for you're time and I hope some of you will help me make it to my goals. I also hope to one day help others after I have learned about myself.

Hi Jeremy and welcome! I hope you find what you need here. There are tons of things to read that I am sure will help you and lots of nice people here as well:) Atkins is a tough diet. My friend was very successful and she lost 100lbs on it. Low carb was good for her body and she also kept it low cal. You just have to stick to it and not have those burgers... or modify them with low carb and maybe just eat 1/2. Drinking is tough. It is hard to stick to your guns when you have been drinking and food starts looking good. I know wine might be a little pansy for a boy lol. Maybe a light beer draft if you have to drink? lol I assume you drink beer when you go out? Try to stay strong. It's hard in social situations but you will feel so much better about yourself if you don't over do it. I know easier said than done but it is so worth it!! I have one trick that has worked well for me recently. My wedding rings got really tight and if I wanted to keep myself from eating something I wanted but knew would be my downfall I would twist the rings on my finger. If they were tight they would remind me that I wanted them to be looser and now that they are a bit looser they remind me that I want to keep them that way!
I seem to be rambling! Good luck! :D

Hit the gym up again, that place always kills a craving. Remember if you mess up one day don't let it be an excuse to mess up for the rest of the week because then the week turns to a month and you know the rest from there
