Suggestions on country/job

Howdy,

Long time no see to most of you.

So after a few deaths in my family, and 2 months of exams lets just say some of the weight's coming back.

After my exams finish end of June, I've got a 4 month break which I want to spend working, Money is always good :p, but also losing weight.

I had an idea about possibly moving to another country for the four months, and trying to get a manual labour job, weight loss and money at the same time, and no family around to throw food at me :p

Any thoughts on this, and/or suggestions of a good place to look at moving to and working in? Needs to be somewhere I could hire a place to live for a few months.

(Currently in UK)

I don't really mind what work it is, just want to earn some money and lose the weight :p

Just looking for some general thoughts/suggestions ^.^

Thanks Steve

Aye it's about 1.95:1 currently, but would the fact I'd be starting off with twice as many dollars even it out, or overall would I earn too little in america? I've no idea on the average wages over there for jobs so not really sure >.<

Thanks Steve

Aye, I noticed while flicking on some sites it goes as low as $5 an hour? If you don't mind me asking do you know a rough figure in USA for a months rent? It doesn't have to be anywhere high end, just somewhere to live for the holidays :p

Average price to rent a 1bedroom flat would be about $750 a month here

Thanks Steve

It really depends on where you live. In NYC you're looking at $1500 to $2500. In the suburbs it's more like $750-1500. Rural areas would be much less, but that's where you're seeing the really low wages.

Would you need working papers in order to work in other parts - in most legitimate places of employment in the US - (that is places you wouldn't be paid under the table) proof of citizenship or ability to work is required - otherwise the company can get into trouble...

You might look at Australia...

What specific skills do you have?

I'll be looking into visa's once I decide where I'm looking at.

I'm actually a computer scientist :p Just was going under the assumption it's a lot easier to get a manual job at short notice, and manual > desktop for weight loss lol

Thanks Steve

Just another thought for you.. and i'm not sure of your age - and it won't make you money - but it will l ook pretty good on a resume not to mention broaden your horizons and all that kind of stuff..

but you could look at volunteering opportunities -like the Peace Corps (that's generally a multi year commitment but i think there are other places that do the same thing...

I'm 19, The main problem is the parents wanting me to make some cash over summer for rest of uni :p Else it'd be to aussie for a 4 months hol lol, Sun sea and sand >.>

But yeah, trying to mix the work and play :p
