Sugar and Spice makes everything nice!

hmm..

woke up this morning at 196.6lbs!!! yay! :hurray:

I'm surprised I'm happy to see 196.6lbs...I guess I'm happy that I didn't cave into cravings or into binge eating last night.

The amount of food I eat is large, I know, I need to get portion control; but at the moment, i'm in it heads over heel with food addiction and want to take one case at a time....next stop is healthier foods...then portion control.

For breakfast I ate....

1 avocado- 250 calories
2 eggs
2 toast- 220 calories
9 oz of beef - 500 calories
.75 cup of cole slaw

For dinner I ate...
2 cups of honey nut cheerios
1 cup of rice dream

For a snack...
3 hardboiled eggs w/ salt and pepper

I am about to go to the gym, study, and enjoy the rest of my day!

It will get easier with each day...for that i'm sure!!!

Hey there,
I totally empathize with bingeing and not purging. It is practically my daily routine! Luckily, I then feel so horrible that I can go for a few days eating hardly anything, so I haven't gained a terrible amount of weight because of my bad habits.
I am on this forum to try and get real balance though, eating moderate amounts EVERY day, and getting some exercise. I have tried lots of things, throwing food out, leaving my debit/cash at home, etc. etc.
I'll tell you some things that consistently work for me.

Eat before I go grocery shopping, and always go with a list and don't deviate from the list.
As soon as I get home from shopping, cut up the veggies so it is easy to grab, and wash the fruit and put it on the counter.
I tend not to want to eat veggies without dip, so I make a plain yogurt/lemon/honey/cumin dip that satisfies my cravings for creaminess.

Also, when I do succumb (and I always do) to temptation, like buy a bag of cookies or whatever, if there are any leftovers, I throw them down the garbage chute immediately. I feel bad wasting my money, but worse wasting my body, so I get rid of the junk.

My worst binge time is at night, so I have set a 7pm limit. No eating past 7, and it works pretty well most of the time.

Finally, the thing that works BEST for me to control the bingeing is exercise. I just end up feeling better about myself that I have done something really good, especially when I go outside. When I am happy, I binge less. Go figure, eh? ;) Duuuhhhh...

Anyways, I wish you lots of luck on your lifestyle changes. I know you can do it if you take it easy on yourself. Don't try to change everything all at once.
Nice to meet you,
Rachel

Rachel AKA Kaiser,

Thank you SO much for stopping by. What you wrote in that one post basically summarizes my whole situation with binge eating and what I plan on doing. I have been exercising at the gym for the past 2 days and have been feeling really good!

You're right; I rather waste money than my body. That is absolutely true!! Sigh* I wish I could give my mom my credit card but what if I need it?

well...i woke up late today...11am exactly...and I weighed 192.0lbs!!! :driving:

I'm not exactly happy because I weighed after starving since I was sleeping...

I weighed this morning around 8am that I was 194.8lbs.......

For breakfast I ate...

1 slice of toast
1/2 avocado
1 egg
1 handful of salad
.33 cup of cole slaw
5 oz of beef

So apparently I've decreased my appetite :auto:

yay! LESS BINGING CAUSE NOW MY BODY IS BACK TO NORMAL...I can finally notice when i'm hungry and want to eat versus...i have to eat i have to eat

=)

I'm happy you're finally below your starting weight! I just got past binge eating a few months ago, so I know what you mean. A few tips I can give you though:
Try to stay away from avacados! Its one of the most fatty vegetables. The calories may seem low, but it is pure fat!
Diet sodas are HORRIBLE for diets. The artificial sugar tricks your body into thinking it is real sugar and you can end up gaining weight. I've found drinking only water, and lots of it really helps you lose weight. If water gets bland try those crystal light flavorings for water, they have 0 calories or carbs.

Now that you are eating less, you'll definately lose weight, but there will be a point where no matter how good you are eating you won't lose any more. Thats when you need to start exercising, or you'll be stuck =(

To make it easier on you (and loose even more weight now) Try walking every day for 30 minutes. No excessive cardio just yet, just warm up your body to exercise. Every week extend it 5 or 10 minutes, so next week walk for 35. It will become easier to stay active that way, and when your weightloss does come to a standstill you wont have a heart attack like I did.
The first time I worked out I went 4 minutes on the stair master and almost passed out. Literally. Since then i've been going back every day and adding a few more minutes on telling myself "I did 4 minutes yesterday, I can do 6 today easy." I just never let myself backtrack and do less than the previous day. Now Ive upped the speed quite a bit and do the stairs for an hour.

Hopefully all of this helps. It sounds we have similar problems and we are the same age.

Good luck!

Also, Try not to weigh yourself twice a day, Its just depressing seeing yourself gain weight every day.

Weigh in the morning because this is your most accurate weight. Your weight in the evening is you + the weight of all the food and water you consumed that day.

hey codey!

First of all, thanks so much for stopping by! Thank you for all your tips. While I know avocados are super high in fat, avocados keep me full for a very long time!

Even after eating jack in the box a few days ago, I could've kept eating...I rather eat "solid" calories than "empty" calories...which brings me to the other topic! --DIET SODAS!!-- I thought I could get away with drinking diet sodas, but man, they suck! I used to crave carbonation, but now I just am thirsty all the time.

I dived into the exercise, hard and strong, so I think that's why I'm feeling so tired (muscles are sore) and lost weight so fast.

I have alot of room for improvement, as in increasing my time in cardio and the weights in weight training. I can start walking, but I can't even walk much at all..since I have severe flat feet and it's just a pain to stay on my feet all the time! The elliptical and cycling really get the cardio in without making my flat feet hurt.

Yeah, I really have to stop weighing. It's driving me nuts...almost. I just need some confidence that I am doing the right thing and will lose weight.

If you are looking for filling foods, avacados actually rank low. The most filling "diet" food you can eat is a potatoe. Baked, mashed, as long as you don't use too much butter, its filling, and not fattening.

Filling food #2 would be fish, It is medically proven that fish is more filling than any other meat. Tuna is a great snack as it satisfies hunger and has fewer calories and fat than beef.

If you get bored of tuna and baked potatoes (NOT FRENCH FRIES!!!) then try out apples and oranges. They are jam packed with fiber which keeps you full.

Remember that tip on drinking 10 8 oz glasses of water each day on CNN and other networks? DO IT! It keeps thirst down, and keeps you full. Drinking alot of water also flushes waste out of your body and makes it easier to burn fat! I keep a watch (cellphone in my case) on me 24/7 and I drink a glass of water every hour. If the hour comes up and I forgot to drink, I chug a glass. WATER IS ESSENTIAL!

As for improvement, you are doing great already! Keep it up! The elliptical is a great machine, its just not my machine of choice. I'm happy its working for you though!

SO STOP WEIGHING! I challenge you to weigh yourself once a week. Don't step on that damn scale, its your enemy! Make a goal to lose 10-15 pounds a month and keep track by weighing once a week. IT CUTS AWAY ALMOST ALL OF THE STRESS! Weighing every day will drive you crazy no matter what.

You don't need confidence, You have that already =) You just need support, Thats why I joined this site. Same thing with you!

for dinner today I ate california pizza kitchen

YAY!!! It was SO goooood I got the Chicken Moroccan Salad and The Greek Pizza

How did I keep it within my "diet" limits?

I ate 200 calories worth of the salad (we ordered a half)
I ate 2 slices of the greek w/o crusts
I also had 1/2 of a kids pack at the theatre w/ diet coke

Then I came home and weighed a staggering 193.6lbs :hurray:
So...I didn't work out today so I wanted to keep my calories super low...but after guestimating everything, which I do pretty damn well since I had fitday for 2-3 years, I ate about...(AM:600 PM:800) 1400 calories....I hope I'm 191 tomorrow. My goal is to be 190 on Monday morning, so I'm basically on track!

I couldn't weigh myself this morning so I have ALOT riding on being 190.0 tomorrow! I will probably weigh myself tonight...I hope I'm 193/192! But I ate at a buffet today...so I can't promise anything! :gnorsi:

I am going to go to the gym today, and I have to go to work and I have to go study for a midterm tomorrow. Today, my family and I moved the big furniture out of my rental unit back home...college is over! I can't believe it! I love living on my own....without supporting myself.....selfish, it's been vacation.

Let's go on with the nutrition shall we?

- 14 pieces of sashimi w/o rice (700 calories)
- 4 pieces of rolls (200 calories)
- 10 mussels (100 calories)
- 20 green beans, chinese style (100 calories)
- 1/4 grill cheese and turkey sandwich (50 calories)
- 1/2 cup of ice cream (130 calories)
- 2 pieces of small dimsum (50 calories)
- 1/2 cup of edamame (30 calories)
- 1 fried shrimp (75 calories)

Approximately 1400 calories consumed It's so SAD that each sashimi piece has 50 calories without rice...I love sashimi and literally drink that stuff!!

I personally think I did well. I didn't pig out on rolls, fried foods, and actually had green beans at a buffet! a vegetable! hah!

At the moment, I think I'm going to take a nap, then go to work, gym, and then to the library to study. I really need some peace and quiet to study.

Nap until 3? Work and Gym until 7? I really want to do an hour of cardio tonight!
Goal is to be at the library by 7pm.

Shit...it's 106 degrees outside, and I'm hot as hell in here...

Took a nap, I'm still in bed though...way too hot to move. Now i'm questioning the workout cause the gym closes at 9pm.

WENT TO WORK FOR A LITTLE BIT MORE THAN 2 HOURS! I was on my feet for 2 hours; I feel good!

I weigh-in at 194.6lbs tonight!

I probably won't make it to 190 tomorrow morning, and I also have doubt that I'll be 192.0lbs..

But I have to report that my mindset is nearly a 180 degrees change from last week. I'm not craving to spend money, that i don't have, on junk food or any food. I'm actually not hungry.

I figured I have alot of weight loss issues to tackle, and I can't simply tackle all of them.

Issues:
-Binge Eating
This is the first thing I'm tackling...Binge Eating Disorder. I am currently not eating alot, or been eating one meal a day. I know that for my metabolism i should be eating frequently, and that is something I am going to work on this week. Eating frequently and healthy choices.
-Hungry? Stomach or Brain?
I have won this battle just the past 4 days. I've gotten my hunger feeling back!
-Bored munching
When I'm bored, I will challenge my energy to something else, like I finally practiced piano a few times over the weekend when I was bored...rather than heading into the kitchen
-Healthy choices
All time difficulty because I love food! I love all different kinds. I can eat a salad, but thinking of mac and cheese gets me drooling! I have to do this with a combination of portion control and hunger level to make sure I can still eat indulgences.
-Sagging skin
Being so obese at the moment, I'm not sure whether to do alot of cardio, or do a mix of cardio and strength training, or excess strength training and minimal cardio (i.e. bodybuilder style). I just dont want to have saggy skin so I MUST do some strength training while cardio? I guess so. I enjoy lifting weights anyway...
-commitment
I fall off the bandwagon way too easy. Once I hit 170s...my usual common plateau/comfort weight, I get off. I have to stick this through. I want to see the 150s...140s...130s...

I can't combat all these at once. I am definitely moving in the right direction for a healthier lifestyle though.

Have a good night everyone!! :waving:

Hey hun, thanks so much for stopping by my journal, I thought I would check yours out while I had the chance. I wanted to let you know that you are amazing, just for having the guts to begin this journey.

I also struggle quite a bit with making healthy food choices, and boy I wish I could exercise like you do girl! I still haven't been able to get back in to my exercise routine... bored munching, emotional eating, and commitment, my goodness... I totally hear you on that! It's really tough!

I also have the same loose skin fear... my arms are tightening up currently by themselves, just from the exercise they get while I'm at work... but I really need to get that exercise in so I don't have to deal with loose skin, that would defeat the purpose of becoming sexier.

It's all about baby steps... 1 pound, 2 pounds, 3, and 4... add up quickly, soon you will be like, "Wow, 20lbs gone... already?" :) Hope to see you around!

HEY! You're a pianist?! Me too! What do you like to play? I'm working on the first movement of the A-minor Grieg Concerto right now. I am doing the same thing as you, using piano practice to avoid eating when I am bored. It makes me feel pretty good, unlike when I give in to eating bad stuff ;)

Hope you have a good week!
Rachel

tamwalt, i love your journal and your pictures! so organized and so STRONG to post pictures!!....Please keep it up! PS- love the purple font! ;)

Rachel, well, i've had piano lessons from the age of 11 to 15, and now I'm 20. I practice all my old stuff, so I keep them fresh in my mind and on my finger tips. I will slowly get back into playing music, I kind of forgot how to read music! I think I've relied a TAD bit too much into memorization...but oh well, i have PLENTY of time to learn since I no longer will spend much time in the kitchen!

Thank you so much for tuning in! =) I'm looking for your journal....hehe

HMMMMMM...
MUST BE THE DIFFERENT SCALE....

I weighed in this morning at 193.4lbs...I should make a note of what scales I'm using. :iagree: heh

Will update front page soon, probably distinguish them apart with an asterick.

I haven't eaten anything today, but I don't feel hungry.

As long as I'm 1200-1400 calories on NONworkout days and 1500-1700 calories on workout days, I think I will still lose weight. Any disagreements?

Well..have a good day y'all! I plan on going to the gym today so we'll see how that goes! :waving:

Today I ate...

KFC! My complete meal could've been 995 calories...but I shaved off calories by not eating the biscuit and NOT finishing the potato wedges...so I'm at 770!

2 grilled thighs
1 grilled drumstick
3/4 potato wedges
individual mac n cheese
5 oz of baby romaine (it was a crapload of lettuce...)

I know that I could've made better choices at KFC, but they didn't have green beans! And I was definitely not in the mood for mashed potatoes, I was craving mac n cheese. I'm happy that I submitted to my laziness of eating fast food, but got the grilled instead of fried chicken. I'm happy my stomach feels full, and so am I, so I can have sufficient energy at the gym.

I ate a 15 cal sugar free popsicle for dinner.

So I finished my cardio today...MAN! i'm sweating so much...i'm still dripping sweat here even though it's 80 degrees here! what the hell...

So i biked to the gym, 2 miles, then:
9 minutes of interval jogging on treadmill/ incline/speed up to 5.0
8 minutes of rowing machine
15 minutes of interval jogging on treadmill/incline/speed up to 5.0
biked to the library and then home, that detour costed me one more mile, so 3 miles home...

I felt really solid so I left just 32 minutes at the gym. It's real tough getting in good strength training at my school's gym cause there are so many people. I feel like it is easier to incorporate my body at the 24hr fitness locations.

I felt really good about staying on the treadmill, I believe the treadmill is the most effective fat burning cardio machine, because it's the machine I personally can't do! So every minute more than 5 minutes I stay on that thing, the better I feel about myself and more encouraged I am to lose weight...:hurray:

I drank 12 cups of water today....96 ounces....because it's hot and I didn't want to dehydrate and I definitely dont want to risk any water retention!

Thoughts...

I can't believe how motivated I am right now. I believe that is the feeling. Although I'm not up and running around ever second I have; I am not eating nor have any serious cravings. I promise you that today's KFC food was because I was simply too lazy to cook. After eating that KFC, which was a tad bit salty because of the potato wedges, I'm craving something that is actually in my frig.

I don't feel so hopeful of weight loss to the 120s...but I feel so hopeful that if I stay with this motivation, and have a plan set for nearly ever situation with food, then I'm bound to succeed!

For example, this Wednesday my boyfriend and I are going on a little date night! =) And we always plan a little bit beforehand, at least the restaurant we're going to eat. I believe I can totally tackle this as long as I stay planned and dont indulge in last minute temptations. So for Italian...no creamy alfredo, no creamy sauces! I have NO room or any DESIRE to indulge and give myself a treat- I definitely don't think I deserve it! Right now is crunch time! I'm still getting the waves down of exercising!

I looked at my back today and noticed my back roll. I officially have a ROLL now. I can't wait until I measure under 105cm across my chest...I don't care if I lose some boob! I want to lose back fat the most!

GOAL ALERT!!! I realized exercise is a crucial part of the weight loss program...and cause I want to get healthy too...I decided that I have to go to the gym 25 out of 30 days so from July 16th to August 14th.

So, since the day I started July 16th, I will only allow 5 rest days, which I already used two. But it's okay! I gotta go to the gym 6-7x week for weight loss!! Let's do it!!!

Woke up at a not happy weight...Not that I gained, but I'm not losing much...probably because I've started my TOM

I ate....
-1 frozen entree of santa fe beans and rice; really good! 310 cal, 8g fiber, 500mg sodium
-1 can of campbell's chicken mexican style soup (HIGH in sodium) 260 cal
-1 1/3 cup of frozen veggies (put in soup); 100 cal
-2 popsicle; 30 cal
-1 deli sandwich from Safeway- Chicago Southsider (my favorite) on wheat slices (approx 500 cal)
-1 bag of sun chips (210 cal)

TOTAL CALORIE=1405

EXERCISE!!! WOOO, I WOKE UP FROM A NAP AT 830 AND REMEMBERED, THE GYM CLOSES AT 10, SO I WENT IN FOR 60 MINUTES OF CARDIO!! WORTH IT? EVERY MINUTE OF IT!!
10 minutes of interval jogging on treadmill
23 minutes on elliptical trainer (w/ arms) did 2.3miles
27 minutes on cycling machine for avg 16mph at level 8-11

60 minutes!!! woot woot!!! i was dripping sweat every minute...1000 calories burned approx

My hips ache a little bit when I walk from either sitting too much or not walking enough. I went to work today for an hour, not much work to be done. I'll be going to the gym later tonight, and drop off magazines...I still haven't found a place where I can drop off my fluorescent light bulbs.

I'm not hungry, but craving food...I want chinese food or a sushi roll. Yummy, but instead of getting up and spending money on those things. I think I'll take a nap. But these cravings I know, will not go away...I need to find an alternative, a healthy alternative to this asian craving. I had mexican food this morning, so I'm not craving mexican (Thank GODDD!!!)

I'm happy I'm going to go do cardio tonight because that soup had alot of sodium and i'm ready to sweat it out.

I would've wanted it at 189-191....

But not at 193...=( =(

EDIT::
WEIGHED IN AT 192.4LBS WITH NO WATER DURING CARDIO, ONLY 3 SIPS AT WATER FOUNTAIN! USUALLY I DRINK UP TO 3-5 CUPS! I came home, drank 10 oz of water, I wonder what water will do to my weight loss...

Sooo weight loss has officially come to a slow crawl...:toetap05: woke up at 192.0lbs

I guess I'm not GAINING during my TOM, just that I'm not dropping 2lbs/night...hah! I only assumed I'd lose that much so quickly because I'm still in my first week of this new lifestyle....

At least the scale is going down, I mean, I even ate a sandwich and a big of sunCHIPS! I guess that late night cardio did my body well! =)

Drinking water after coming from the gym didn't hinder my progress, i think, i was 192.4, and woke up at 192.0...I can't go to bed thirsty or my body might panic.

i wish i could wake up in time for strength training because at night, the machines are just so packed. :nopity:

The next time i plan on going out, to sit-down eat, is Saturday with my family.

I bought alot of fruit yesterday when I went grocery shopping! =)

dietplan for the day....
2 cup of fat free milk, 2 cup of cheerios n raisin bran cereal (450 calories)
30 grapes (100 calories)
1 shrimp burrito (700 calories)
25 tortilla chips (200 calories)
salsa (100 calories)

Exercise....
5 minutes on treadmill, speed walking 4.0
23 minutes on cycling machine, 16mph, moderate level 7 intensity
32 minutes of elliptical climber, interval training, 4800 strides
60 minutes of cardio!!!

Unfortunately I still feel bloated from the shrimp burrito and the milk. I am lactose intolerant, thought I was, but I've been farting all day long. hehehehehe....I thought I got rid of my lactose intolerance, but I guess I was so bloated all the time, I didn't know the difference! bloat of fullness or bloat of lactose!
bad news: i ate 1550 calories
good news: i burned approximately 500 calories walking for 105 minutes at the mall; i was kind of sweating...i know, gross...
