i've been on vacation for the past week and i've been eating all types of junk, drinking a lot of alcohol, and not really drinkiing a lot of water. im sure im bloated and retaining a lot of water but today i went and weighed and im up 10 lbs! is that even possible or do you think itll go back down once i go back to my normal eating habits and start drinking a lot of water again?

What you're saying here is equivalent to someone coming in here saying, "I shot myself and it hurts. Do you think it will stop hurting after I go to the hospital and heal?"

Yes

Well of course honey, If you start to supply your body with less energy your weight will drop, to be honest I have put 10 pounds on since november and I know well why! too much sugar too many carbs and it seems to take a long time to unravel when its crept on so I am sure you will lose your excess soon! x

Carbs don't make you fat unless you overeat them, in which case the reality of the situation is too many calories.

well yeah, that sometimes happens on vacations. especially all inclusive ones--buffets and alcohol galore, at any time of the day. if you go back to your normal exercise and eating habits (as long as your eating habits aren't excessive and you control it), then you should be able to get back on track.

i'm glad that doesn't happen to me...well, i don't let it. i specifically stay at a resort with a gym, watch my diet (strictly throughout the day and less strict at dinner), but i do have some alcohol...i mean it is vacation. i just worry about looking horrible in a dress or swimsuit so i don't let that happen. i've went on vacation and actually lost weight before...once, but i was proud of myself. ha

Well definitely you will lose some calories once you come back to your normal diet. However, you can have some lime juice. That helps to burn fat quickly.

Hi All,
I found this web site from cruising Google. I hope this site becomes my new found friend! I started editing my life style in July 2008. I have been overweight most of my life and I was tired of always feeling down about myself, and not liking the way I looked. I decided it was time I changed my lifestyle. I have done all the diets out there. WW, Nutri-Systems, Jenny Craig, Aktins, counting fat grams, you name it I tried it. This time around I did something different. First I educated myself by reading as much about daily healthy nutriation as possible. I had never considered the sodium levels of food before. This is key to losing weight. I had always bought all the diet TV dinners I could find. Southbeach diet, lean cruisines, WW, Heathly Choice, Smart Ones. Well let me tell you a secret not alot of people realize. These meals are full of SODIUM!! You should not have more than 2000 mg of sodium a day, when trying to lose weight. Sodium makes you retain fluids and makes it nearly impossible to take the weight off. I discovered how to stay within the 2000 mg. a day and eat healthy foods. Vegatables, fruits, fish, meats. I count calories and watch sodium intake. I only allow 1200 calories a day, but I eat everything. I just count it in my daily 1200 calories. I have had cake, cookies, ice cream (daily, Schwan's Dessert One Cup - Chocolate). I don't mix my carbs at a meal. If I want a piece of garlic bread, then I don't have potatoes, rice, or pasta. If I want potatoes, then no bread, rice or pasta. I allow one carb per meal. When I have a sandwich for lunch I make it open face with reduced fat cheese, (lower calorie), deli turkey, mustard (spicy) and 12 grain bread (90 calories slice). I have taught myself protein control. I started by buying the just right products in the stores. Pre-measured package fruits, veggies, nuts, chips. The 100 calorie snacks are good too. I take some with me whereever I go. That way if I get a urge to eat, or get hungry, I have something legal to eat. I have lost 53 lbs. as of this morning! Now you are probably saying geez, that's not much from July 2008. But let me tell you something, try carrying around 53 lbs. of potatoes and see what it feels like. I am healthier for having lost it slow and feel great! I also decided I needed to get some exerise. I bought a treadmill and get on it 3 times a week, 3 miles, 3mph. But let me tell you something, when I started the treadmill I got only do 3 mins., 1 mph. Could hardly breathe. It took awhile to work up to what I'm doing now. For me, I could never control my weight loss after trying the other above diets I went on. Don't get me wrong, I lost the weight, but always put it back on. Why?? Because unless you choose to stay with the diet forever, it is hard to try and maintain when you stop eating all that prepared food. (Jenny Craig, WW, Nutri-Systems, Aktins). The way I have lost it this time, has been every day regular food. Just smaller amounts, and watching sodium intake!! If I can do it.... anyone can. I am 52 years old. I have a new lease on life!! Still going to take off about another 20 lbs. Then hold it there for life!!

This brings up a good subject!! Weight gain on vacation.

This lady that I work with and I went on a weight loss challenge together. She has lost 12 lbs and just left for vacation. When we talked about how she was going to do on vacation and if she was going to stick to her "diet" she said, "No, I'm on vacation. I'll probably gain ten pounds." Well that will put her nearly to where she started in the beginning 8 weeks ago, all in one week of letting go of eating healthy and exercising.

Honestly, I was shocked she didn't seem to care much that all the hard work she was doing was going to be thrown out the window. Essentially, she'll be starting all over again.

I believe it that you did gain ten pounds and I honestly don't know if it will just "fall right off" after you go back to your better eating. For your sake, I hope it does. But in all reality I'm not going to be too shocked if it doesn't. Loads and loads of calorie consumption and no working out will do that to you!

Good luck and I hope you get back on track and maybe the next time you go on vacation you'll be a little bit more aware of the things you'll be eating. I would suspect it feels pretty bad to go through all the hard work and effort to lose weight, just to gain back ten pounds because you're "on vacation and shouldn't have to worry about what your eating and if you're exercising". It probably makes you feel worse that you gained weight on vacation from abandoning the healthy lifestyle than if you would've just stuck to it the whole time.

Ok, sorry I went on a little too much.

Good luck to you!

What I conclude from all your posts (except Pokerbee) is that either you had a normal diet and were in control before in which case your weight will go back to normal.
OR you were dieting before holiday and then went on your usual excessive eating (which is what made you fat to begin with) in which case as Michelley said, you prob will have to diet the 10lbs all over again. =( ..
