stuck in a weight loss rut

I have lost about 30lbs since March and now the weight is coming off slow. I had some major stressers in March including a miscarriage and a cheating husband. I weighed 180 lbs. and I am only 5ft 2in tall, so I think the fact that I had so much weight to lose and the stress that I was going through helped the weight come off pretty fast. Now I am only losing about 2lbs. a week and weigh 148.8 lbs. I am still working out at the gym everyday and eating small portions for lunch and dinner ( I usually don't have time for breakfast but I try to eat a snack around 10am. ) I feel like I am trying so hard and it just isn't coming off fast enough! I want to wear a bikini for the first time in my life this summer and I am starting to get discouraged. I got down to 150 lbs. last summer and then just gained it all back. I have a goal of 120 lbs, but just can't seem to get the last 30 lbs. off! I need some good advice on excercise and diet to help me reach my goal.

Hi Alecia and welcome.

Firstly a loss of 2 pounds a week at your current weight is good. Get used to it and be happy. Its not a good idea to lose it any faster as it will all go back on. Really!

Slow and steady wins the race.

Keep going with your strategy. the only thing you might check up on is how much less than your maintenance calories are you eating. They say its good to eat about 500 calories less. I suspect you can't afford to reduce it too much more than that for sustainable weight loss.

the thing is if you lose it too fast by not eating enough you lose muscle mass. You don't want to lose muscle mass because its MM that keeps your metabolism ticking over faster.

You also don't want to lose it any faster than that because its puts more strain on your body at this fairly low weight. When you weigh more your body can cope becuase it will lose mainly fat but now it will lose not so much fat but also muscle.

If you eat too much less you risk hunger and this can trigger binges. What i have noticed in teh past if i lose too fast, my body rebels, and that causes an out of control hunger.

We are all differnt its true but you are doing really well as you are going and i think you should continue with the same sort of program.

Just check your daily cals and make your sure a eating healthy, doing a bit of exercise. Accept your wins and you can be happy. Have patience. you will get htere.

Start a diary here to get support from other dieters. It helps too. And you can learn a lot and may have advice to give others.

Thank you for your support and advice. I will start on the diary asap. I have already gotten some great ideas from reading others. I am trying to change things up at the gym and having more snacks throughout the day. Just went to the store and bought some yogurt, oranges, bananas, and pretzels so that I can snack healthy.

Alecia, Don't give up...2 pounds a week is exactly where you want to be. Your body is getting closer to its goal weight, so the weight will come off slower..although losing 2 pounds a week is exactly where you need to be. Are you counting your calories? How much are you working out and what kind of workouts are you doing? You may need a change to shock your system and see some better results. I am a fitness Coach and have been in the business for over 18 years. I coach only women so feel free to ask me anything. You are doing great...Keep moving forward :)
