Stubborn belly fat! Please help?!

Hey guys,

I'm 20, female, 122lbs and 5"6. I'm pear shaped, so my upper body is very skinny while my lower body is packed full of jiggly fats.

I've been doing cardio exercises everyday for years to no avail. The pear shape stays.

So a few weeks ago, I decided to give starvation a try. (No hate, please! I'm truly desperate. It's depressing not being able to look good in a simple pair of jeans or a bikini.)

My normal calorie intake should be about 1600 cals, but I significantly restricted it to 800 - 1000 cals a day. Needless to say IT HAS BEEN WORKING! I've been losing fat like crazy, and the only side effects are slight dizziness and tiredness.

However THE MAIN PROBLEM is my abdomen - the belly fat just won't seem to go away. It's a big, jiggly bump right below my belly button.

I have a pool party to attend in exactly 7 days. Do any of you think it's possible to get a flat tummy within 7 days, or is that just a ridiculous hope? If you have managed to lose belly fat in a week, please share with me your method!

Thank you!

it sounds to me like your practicing dangerous habits. Women should never be below 1200 calories. You could be doing more damage than good. Sorry you think you have a tummy...I'll bet you look better than you think given your stats. Please focus on having fun and enjoying life...because what most people notice is a pretty smile!

No, it's not possible.

Try a detox bath! It is good to get rid of water weight/bloat that may be showing in your belly area.

Personally, I do epsom salt, ginger, and baking soda!

Also suggest trying to up your cardio, or ab exercises vigorously & safely due to the low calories.

You may be losing more muscle than actual fat! But I do not judge, I lost 50lbs on a very low calorie diet and I would do it again... The only problem is that I lost ALL my muscle.

please do not starve yourself. i did it for years and now i have a heart condition. make sure you eat a minimum of 1200 a day. as others have said, when you starve you ARE NOT getting rid of fat, you ARE starving away your muscle tissue, AND causing harm to your internal organs.

not everyone has a flat stomach. i used to literally be 100 pounds, and i still had a belly pouch. it's just the way my body is shaped. look into muscle building exercises as well as cardio, you need to regain the muscle you've starved away.

I'm sorry to say (as another person who carries weight on the lower half) that your basic silhouette won't change. If you're a pear, you'll always be a pear no matter what you weigh. (I'm afflicted with the curse of the thunder thighs- not a classic pear, just thighs thighs and more thighs. I had thunder thighs as a child, I had thunder thighs at my ideal weight, I had thunder thighs nearly 90 pounds above my ideal weight, and everywhere in between)

As others have said, starving won't help you at all- at best, in the short term it will cause you to lose some mass which might make you look good, but that mass will be muscle and when you go back to eating normally again you'll pack it back on in fat. Not to mention the other potential health consequences others have mentioned. As to your goal, noticeable changes come in months, not days, I'm afraid.

As to your appearance, I think, like Korrie said, that you probably aren't anywhere near as big as you think you are. I'm slightly shorter than you are and I haven't weighed 122 pounds since I was 12 years old. I don't consider it an achievable goal for me- I'm aiming at somewhere between 130 and 145lb as my end goal (I work in metric- the actual numbers are 60 and 65kg, I converted them for you). Different bodies have different weight distributions, and according to the BMI scale I could lose more weight, but from previous experience, I start to look a little skeletal below that 130lb mark. For your stats, you really shouldn't be aiming to lose much, if any, weight, you're already at the low end of healthy.
