Strongman Training

Has anybody tried this. I read a magazine article about this and it looked fun. Some things they did was flip tires and throw these trash can things in the air. Where would I get that stuff?

It is all free. Get tires at tractor supply / construction equipment companies. Used are free.

Fill a bag with sand, go find some big rocks. get a rope and harness and start pulling stuff.

Rocks you will find wherever large rocks are found.

You can get a bag from anywhere. I like the Green bags from the army surplus stores.

Sand is cheap by the bag, or free from property that has sand on it.

Rope you can get at the hardware store.

If you are looking for farmers walks or yoke implements, you will have to get more creative of have them built be a welder. (you can get some from some companies, but the price will be high) The same is true if you want a log.

Also remember that strongman training is not a replacement for gym training.

Definetely not a replacement for gym training. Only reason I ask is because it looks like alot of fun! and its actually on 1 of the days of the WSFSB template. Thanks for the ideas!

JMan:

I've had the privilege of studying under an amateur strongman. He trained out of a specialized gym. The gym was little more than a giant warehouse with all the necessary equipment that you discussed above. They had concrete filled kegs, atlas stones, tires, telephone poles, ship anchors and chains, old cars and trucks, and more.

It really is an amazing experience, these lifters are a whole different breed. Their training is like nothing I've ever seen before. They develop a very deep, very robust kinesthetic awareness, being able to choose which muscles they activate in order to prevent early fatigue.
