Stretch Marks

Stretch marks?

So, if they're caused by tearing of the dermis, why don't they go away when you lose weight and your skin tightens up? At least, I've always heard that stretch marks don't go away when you lose weight, I'm not sure if that's always true.

I'm worried that I'll get down to my goal weight and still feel bad because I'm covered in stretch marks, which seem to have no effective treatment that doesn't involve going under the knife... Do they go away at all? Do you just learn to accept them? I have the fairest, most delicate skin ever (unfortunately), so even though I'm not very overweight my entire thighs are covered in stretch marks. I want to be able to wear cute dresses and all after a hard-earned weight loss, but I'm scared I'll never get to. :s

Heh I'm less worried about the stretch marks as I am about loose skin...atm I can't tell if my stomach is lumpy because I have more fat to lose or if I have skin....I think its fat because I cant stretch it far

Hey, good question!! I'm dealing with a lot of them as well and would also like to know if you can get rid of them?:eek2: If any of the creams or lotions really work?

Everybody's different but generally they turn back to the color of the rest of your skin and not pink/red etc. They also get smaller and less noticible.

Nice info.

People have always told me that they don't disappear but might become less visible as time passes. Anyhow, worry about those later. Dieting is enough stressing as it is. :)

I'm sure there is lots of info available through a Google search too.

I have had stretch marks for a very long time.. Even in middle school I had them on my arms. Now I have them on my legs, thighs, stomach, and still my arms. They have faded ALOT.. some days they are more visible than others.. I have been able to deal.. they are not bad at all when they fade :] I am thinking of getting a tan also, I am ghost white- it might help them look even less noticeable! Who knows :D

Depends on how much weight you are losing, I believe.

I am losing about 75 pounds and mine are fading slightly and I am only down 22 pounds

As far back as I remember, I had to deal with stretch marks. They weren't a major problem until I hit the upper 200s when they became just hideous. I have noticed some minor improvements since I lost 30+ pounds, but they are no where near "cured". Will the continue improving throughout my journey? How much smaller will they get? What can I do to minimize their appearance?

i have strech marks from being pregnant and strech marks are for good....you can go to a dermatolgoist to get them to reduce the strech marks or you can use a really good scar and strech mark cream called mederma "it works" you cant completey get rid of strech marks from what ive read about...

hopefully with losing weight they dont show as much...

I have them too on my stomach - just from weight gain. Does anyone know of any over the counter meds or creams? I've heard that you can put acne cream on them and it fades them but I don't know for sure..

Morning,

From what I understand, it's pretty difficult to "cure" stretch marks. However, I did uncover the following resources for you:

I'm big into aromatherapy/massage/etc.; some of the ideas above do sound like they have merit.

Hope that helps,

Barbara

I just used
"VITA-K SOLUTION for Stretch Marks with SUPER VITAMIN K"

I havn't seen a difference.

But, can't you laser treat stretch marks?

I remember watching a documentary about stretch marks (yeah, there was nothing else on) and the guy just simply said

"They will fade but essentially it's torn skin so your not gonna get rid of them"
