Morning All,

Weighed in at 274.6lbs this morning, so another 3.8lb down from last Sat.

Been working out a rough loss-per-week to hit my target by September, and seems it's roughly 34 weeks.

If I was to hit 2.9lb loss for 10 weeks, 2.3lbs for 12 weeks, then 1.9lb loss for the last 12 weeks I'd hit my 200 target dead in september. Tried to make the targets reduce as I go as I'm sure it'll be a lot harder to lose a lot at lower weights, but not sure how realistic those losses are over a long time?

My next two goals are: 266lbs (19 stone), and 259 (When I officially become overweight, not obese!), which if I use the above numbers would be start of March (Or Feb for 19 stone). *crosses fingers*

One thing I've been considering, and not sure if anyone else does or has been thinking about it, multivitamins! :cuss: One thing that sprang to mind is I've probably never (or at least not in a long time) hit my vitamin needs on a day to day level, and I'm sure it's only going to be worse as my calorie intake decreases, if I'm only eating half of what I was originally there's only half the chance of getting them :) Now sure, I understand you're supposed to get them all via diet etc, but as we all know that doens't always happen.

Been looking at a few and even the cheaper ones that work out approx. 5p a day (or 8~ cents for you americans) seems to contain everything )or at least partial which is still probably more than now!):

Typical Values Per tablet
Protein -
Vitamin A 800.0µg (100% of RDA)
Vitamin C 60.0mg (75% of RDA)
Vitamin D 5.0µg (100% of RDA)
Vitamin E 10.0mg (83% of RDA)
Thiamin (Vitamin B1) 1.4mg (127% of RDA)
Riboflavin (Vitamin B2) 1.6mg (114% of RDA)
Niacin 18.0mg (113% of RDA)
Vitamin B6 2.0mg (143% of RDA)
Folic Acid 200.0µg (100% of RDA)
Vitamin B12 1.0µg (40% of RDA)
Biotin 150.0µg (300% of RDA)
Pantothenic Acid 6.0mg (100% of RDA)
Calcium 200.0mg (25% of RDA)
Phosphorus 145.0mg (21% of RDA)
Iron 14.0mg (100% of RDA)
Magnesium 100.0mg (27% of RDA)
Zinc 15.0mg (150% of RDA)
Iodine 150.0µg (100% of RDA)
Selenium 25.0µg (45% of RDA)
Copper 1.0mg (100% of RDA)
Manganese 1.0mg (50% of RDA)
Chromium 25.0µg (63% of RDA)
Vitamin K 20.0µg (27% of RDA)

Any thoughts?

Thanks,
Steve

Vitamins have always been a bit of a mixed bag as far as I could tell from reading: they likely don't hurt you (except I guess the Niacin might give you some issues if you get too much) and ultimately you probably get some benefits from them. The problem, as I understand it, is that absorbing them is very tricky as you tend to lose a lot of them when it's time to let the water out.

I've also read that they are sort of a catch 22 effect: the people who need them, probably need to adjust their diets anyway, and once you do, you don't really need them anymore. Most of the scientific studies on _normal_ people showed little benefits to them.

However there's absolutely nothing out there in terms of studies for people in our narrow cohort: IE people restricting calories over a lengthy period of time to bring down excessive body weight. So they could help us and could also do absolutely nothing. I wish I had a better answer than "maybe" but that's the best I can do from little I know. I did look into this back at the start and haven't tried it yet, but not ruling it out either.

As always in nutrition for now, what we don't know far outpaces what we do. Human bodies are complicated machines.

Oops :) Seems I missed updating this recently!

And todays weigh-in was...... 266.8!

And that's another milestone I can tick off, I've officially lost 75% of my weight that needed to go :) Only 25% more till I hit 15 stone! (I hope! :) ) And only 0.9lbs till 19 stone!

Congratulations on the major milestone. That's 75% of your project done.

At a shade over 19 stone you have done really well and are really quite trim. I like the photos - they show off your new shape nicely.

As far as vitamins go - I take the following:
centrum performance
3 * omega-3 fish oil 1000mg
1 * garlic oil
1 * zinc
1 * sunflower oil
2 * vit C 500mg

Quite a lot of the folk that were here last time I was here took (and I'm sure still take as I am still in touch with a lot of them elsewhere) a veritable cocktail like I do...

I would say that it is definitely well worth the multivitamin and omega-3...

Hi Steve,

Fantastic job you've done! The transformation you've undergone is crazy.
I have to say that I am amazed at the rate of loss you've maintained over the the last 2-1/2 years. With the exception of the occasional collapses (Las Vegas IS named Sin City for some really good reasons, you know) your weight loss has been astounding.

The other thing I have to mention is that as a new guy around here, I'm seeing a surprising commonality amongst many of us.... we're data driven and analytical. Curious coincidence? Anyway, great job and keep up the good work. Maintenance stage is soon approaching!

Hey, Thanks! :)

Yeah Vegas was such a cool place, just way too much food/drink! lol.

Don't think I could keep it up without tracking it a lot. I like to see it's working, and how/when it's going wrong.

The best thing about being larger in the first place, it starts dropping a lot faster! :) Going to hate it when I slow down lots :( hehe.

Sorry I haven't had a chance to read through your diary yet, keep flicking through during weeks, but it's generally only weekends I get the time to have a proper read :)

Thanks again,
Steve

Your progress has been astounding. With regard to the pics on the first page, you can definitely tell a difference. Everyone has blips too! Like the others have said, Vegas will do that to you. :p Keep it up and you'll see your 200 lb target.

Don, I've noticed the same thing. I also have a spread sheet on my computer with which to track my weekly weigh ins, caloric intake, etc.

Hey Steve - would be nice to see more of you on here (Weight Loss Diary) :)
You are doing awesome & I like you mini challenge of mini challenges for the week!!

Thanks Cory and Justina! :)

Yeah I generally try to flick through and read everyones a bit most nights, just never seem to have much to post myself lol :)

Came in at 261.2 this morning, so very close to my next target. 259 would put me down to "overweight 29.9 BMI or less" rather than "obese 30+" which is a great step forwards! :)

Maybe I'll hit it next week! Was hoping for it this week, but alas no!

Steve

You're so close to your next goal! Last I checked, my BMI was 31... so 7 more lbs to go for me. I've never been more excited to be "overweight". lol!

Incredible work Steve.

Has anyone else seen the studies where folks with BMIs between 25 and 30 actually have lower mortality rates than those between 20 and 25? There's a lot of other factors of course, but even so getting that BMI below 30 is a great step. And you'll be there soon.

Hey Steve, good to see another rower on the board! Are you on either of the Concept2 forums?

Way to burn off the lbs, that's really an impressive drop!

Exactly! :D One step closer to "Healthy". Keep it up Jen, we'll all be overweight soon! (In a better than obese strange way! lol)

Yep, Was reading through those, but I think this comes back to BMI only being a generic calculation, There's nothing specific to how someone actually acts/eats etc, just weight/height blah. And anyway, I'm sure whether it's 20-25 or 25-30, it still beats the length we'd live at our heighest weights! :D

Congrats, Steve! I can't wait until I'm in the next BMI bracket.

Thank you! Aye, as Jen was saying, it's weird "wanting" to be overweight bracket lol :D Sure you'll be there in no time!

Great progress Steve well done!

Many thanks Justina!

Hey John, Thanks! Honestly not got into their forums much apart from uploading my rankings, been keeping the rowing as a side thing just for weightloss, not going to even try competiting properly till I lose more! :D

Are you active on their forums?

Steve

And today is the day....... I weighed in at 258.0 which means I'm officially overweight! YAY

My 20th goal of my list complete :D (or 19th however you read it)

Yaaaaaaay! Congrats on just being overweight!!! lol! That's awesome. Enjoy that Cadbury egg, you deserve it! :)

That is an AMAZING transformation! Congratulations, Steve!!

By the way, I like that you've tracked all your individual goals... that's a good motivator to keep remembering the smaller goals along the way.
