Steve's Slimmer Self 2013 Edition!

About me:
(To copy a bit from my Newcomers post)

So a bit about myself, I'm 6ft 6in, 24 years old, and from the UK. I've always been overweight, and I joined on here back in 2008 (How long ago that feels!) to try to sort things out, after a while of progressing I slipped into bad habits between family deaths, and my university final year of exams, it went pretty bad, wiping out all the original progress I'd made.

Back in January 2007 I was up at 410lbs, by the end of 2008 I'd managed to get down to 320 which was great at the time. Fast foward to the end of university (July 2010~), and boom 436.3lbs (Just over 31 stone)

Ever since then I've been weighing in regulary, and constantly lurking on the boards, and have managed to lose 151.8lbs getting myself down to 284.6 (The lowest I've been in well forever!).

My Goal:
My goal of 200lbs is what I'm aiming for by the end of 2013 (Though September is my overall preference)! I'll be... officially healthy then!

So that's another 84.6lbs to go, preferably in 9 months (2.35lbs a week). Based on what I've currently being doing, it should be doable as long as I don't slip, but I'm guessing as always it'll get harder near the end!

Weight Loss so far:
It's been fairly constant so far since I started again, always having a few blips during holidays/birthdays etc, but that's to be expected, honest! :D

I haven't really changed much yet, simply eating less of what I eat (Still eating "wrong" food though), and running up and down a lot of stairs while fixing things at work :D I'll certainly need to change both what I eat, and do more excercise but as I seem to be losing constantly I'm happy with how it's going so far. End of day it's a marathon, not a sprint! (Or waddle!)

Apologies in advance for mass number of walls, always like to track things visually

Tracking my weight since September 2010:

460 - Back in 2009, honestly not sure of weight, but think it was even higher around 460

440 - July 2010, Graduation

390 - Dec 2011, Xmas Party

380 - Sep 2011, Las Vegas

285 - Dec 2012 Christmas Shops

The stupid thing is I look at those pictures and really can't see much difference to myself!

Wow! Nice work man! Keep it up! 200 this year seems aggressive. September seems unhealthy fast. Night and day difference in the photos. I think you need smaller clothes.

Thanks! Yeah expecting it to slow down a lot, helped that I had so much extra to lose in the first place. Guess I'll see how the next few months go, and look at goal from there!

I agree with Quercus, time to go shopping! lol! You can definitely see a difference. Awesome job! :)

Thanks also. Yeah been thinking about replacing wardrobe for a while, but keep thinking I'll only replace it when I hit my target too! :( Also doesn't help with my height, it's either too short in length, or too long on bigger sizes!

Steve

wow, you've got some mad tracking skills, lol I can def. tell a difference between the top pic and bottom!! Keep working at it man, 2013 is gonna rock!!

Carhartt has tall sizes and sturdy clothes. Nothing fancy, but well made. Pretty conservative on their waist size for pants, but middle of the road on shirt size.

I'm 6' 3" and at 340 wore a 3XLT button up shirt. My buddy is 6' 9" and thick and wears the brand. I'll ask weight and sizes if you want.

I'll have to have a look if there are any UK stockists. Generally with UK sizes there are no "Tall" versions. If you want longer, you go next size up. Which then works out something like 4 inches on waist/chest, vs 1 length

Done a couple of orders from america with my current clothes as I was over in Las Vegas last year, so stocked up while there before losing weight! Irony :D

Many thanks,
Steve

You have done brilliantly - but as a tall person you are always going to have to check specialist stores - average high street shops do not cater for lots of people.

You deserve clothes to show off your new figure and motivate you towards further achievements.

Have you tried shops like High and Mighty?
they have a store locator so you may be able to find one near you.
Internet orders from America is one option for non standard sized people - but nothing beats trying things on and finding something that you feel has a style that flatters...

Also - it may be worth you checking to see if there is a branch of Slatersnear you.
They have various stores round the country and do free alterations to fit. It could be worth phoning your nearest branch and describing your measurements and asking if they have clothes that you would be interested in... You could then pop in and try them on and see if they have anything you like.

I hope that you find something without having to resort to the internet.

Hey Omega! Thanks :)

Yeah I get a fair bit from Jacamo (Who's parent company also owns High and Mighty I believe?) didn't realise they had shops too, so might have to try and find one near! As you said, always nice to have a look and try things on.

Seems especially with some larger brands, one size in one brand is 2-3 different to another lol. Always been order one bigger just incase kind of attitude :)

Never heard of slaters, so will have to take a look at them too! Especially the free alterations thing, never seen that before, but that's pretty cool.

Many thanks,
Steve

Hey UK Steve welcome aboard,

I'm starting to feel very short as all these guys 6'3" and over keep showing up. Normally I feel just fine at 5'11" (and it's a real 5'11") but you guys are starting to make me feel short.

Great job on all the pounds lost. I couldn't begin to speculate on what a reasonable goal for weight loss is in the next year. Well I could, but it would pretty useless speculation so I won't. I've lost about 75 pounds in six months, so it's nice to see someone keep going past that point. I'm always a little worried that it's going to grind to a halt.

Keep up the good work!

Morning all,

281.8 lb this morning, so up to 154.6 loss! :D So close to hitting that magical 20st (280lb) Hopefully next week unless something goes horrible!

Also my "Give myself a christmas present" has arrived!

Bought myself a Concept2 Model D with PM3 (Rowing machine for those who don't know )

View attachment 21136

Haven't put it together yet, but it only "Just" fits into the room! 7 foot 11 inches long :D

It's a bit of a beast of a machine, but thought it'd be best to get the biggest and most reliable type of machine especially for my size/height. The model D has a 500 pound limit so I'm safe! lol.

Thanks :) Hehe, Not even 6ft?!? Shorty! :D I know what you mean though, I'm pretty much always the tallest around yet those times someone is taller it's like, eek!

In terms of the keep going over 6 months, as you can see on my graph there are always blips over time (especially holidays/birthdays etc for me, and the epic failure of xmas 2011 with a 10.6lb gain!). If I've found I'm slowing down or gaining, I'll change something even if it's something stupid like parking over furthest side of carparks. Soon adds up on every day :D

Biggest thing I've found is finding something that you're happy to stick to, not a fad diet etc that you'll be bored of within a week, and from your progress it looks like you're already on it and smashing it!

Steve

Ha, ha. I've found when I talk to other guys, the only ones who say they are 5'11" are actually about 5'9". So when they say, "what are you about 6'1"?" I'm tempted to say, "no I'm the 5'11" you're actually claiming to be." But you're up in Peter Crouch range but don't look nearly as freakish. :)

Nice job on dropping three more in the past week or so. I have noticed that the expected slow down of my loss has been counteracted by what I think is a very real increase in my exercise levels. Because I can exercise longer and with more exertion, I do. And, so far, that has seemed to counteract the "burn less because you weigh less" factor.

As for not seeing much of a difference in yourself, I'm there too. But squint hard enough and you can see the difference. It must be difficult though always hanging out with people with such grotesquely disfigured faces. :D

First proper row on my new machine today!

Meters Total Time Pace Date Age Class Type
29 00:20.0 01/05/2013 24 H standard
5000 34:30.8 03:27.0 01/06/2013 24 H standard

5000 metres in 34 minutes. Pretty bad, but it's a start! lol

It's a really cool machine, it connects up to your pc and automatically uploads and ranks your rows against other people.

For example, my row above is 9th fastest in my town, or 351st in the world rankings heavyweight section (Also probably known as the bottom! lol)

But damn, 33 minutes @ 435 cals per hour average, scaled to my 280lb on their website = 354 calories gone. Will have to try to repeat it a couple of times a week if not everyday (If I don't die! :D )

Steve

thats the same machine they have at the gym I go to, I should get myself a card to go in it to record my rowing to be uploaded :)

Well Done :D

Great job on the rowing. Keep it up! :)

Thanks Jen! Hopefully timing will improve enough to increase length more :)

Aye, it's really cool, been flicking through the online logbook and it does things like creating graphs based on workouts (though helps to have more than one workout!). Can search for people in your area to compare times etc.

Even without online part using the logcard you can do things like race against your own times as pace boats etc :)

Only touched the surface on my machine so far hehe

Thanks,
Steve

Congrats on the rower. That's a really great machine! It's great for tall guys too. My gym has that machine. It should last you forever.

Hey Steve - welcome to the site ! ..

Congrat's on your brand-new Rowing machine ! it looks a beauty !! - am glad U found one with specs to suit your weight & height ( always need to be safe - I can't imagine how bad a person could get hurt using a machine not strong-enuf for them - eek. ) View attachment 19596 ... and so cool it connects with your computer ( so U can "compete"...great fun & motivation ... )

Fantastic work on your loss of 154 pounds so far .... and your plan of approximately 2lbs/week seems reasonable ( as a young 24yo , tall male- you are in one of the faster weight-loss categories .... not a slow-loss middle-age /short height/female like myself ( I average only about 1/2lb./week...so am jealous of your youth & height).... lol.

... I was sorry to read you had family losses a few years back - my mother passed-away 5 years ago..it takes a while to feel good about life again...... glad to see you are on a healthy road now.....

Best of luck for your journey - U know U can do it - you've already lost 154 pounds ( that was a lot of hard work & determination ) ...., and while you might see a bit of slower loss once you get closer to goal/healthy weight - it will keep coming-off- just keep up the healthy lifestyle....

as you said - "it's a marathon, not a sprint ( waddle)..." ...hee hee ( the "waddle" comment made me laugh)...

cheers dude,
Maryann C.
