Step Brother Tore Pec

He's a huge dude He benched 350 6 times which isn't even his heaviest set and felt it on the last rep.

He thinks he'll be healed up in 4 weeks. I don't think there's any way it will be that fast, and even when healed it will take a long time to get back strength. What is the recovery time for this?

i'd say 4 weeks minimum if he plays it safe. After a few weeks he may want to do some exercises to keep his ROM, with little or no weight, then progressing to resistance tubes, then to body weight exercises. This type of progression is safe, as one thing I've seen with pec tears is that it causes imbalances as other internal rotator muscles will make up for the loss of pec action, and trap development on that side.

I stole this from another forum:

"many famous people who had torn their pecs, had surgery, and have made successful comebacks:

1) Michael Strahan (NY Giants DE)-Tore his pec in a game in 2004, had surgery and came back in 2005 with a vengence earning a selection to the Pro Bowl.

2) Junior Seau (retired LB Chargers and Dolphins)-Tore his pec in a game in 2004, had surgery, and came back to play the first part of the 2005 season before an ankle injury ended his season.

3) Phil Baroni (MMA fighter)-Tore his pec bench pressing in 2003, had surgery, and came back to the UFC 8 months later. Now he is having a successful career in Pride fighting organization.

4) The Undertaker (WWE wrestler)-Tore his pec bench pressing in 2000, had surgery, and came back 3 months later. Has been going strong ever since.

5) Sylvester Stallone (movie star)-Tore his pec bench pressing in 1979 while training for Rocky II. Had surgery and went on to make 4 more Rocky movies and 3 Rambo movies.

6) Kevin Levrone (pro bodybuilder)-Tore his pec in 1994. Had surgery and has had a succesful pro bodybuilding career ever since.

7) Tony Freeman (pro bodybuilder)-Tore his pec in 1995. He waited FIVE YEARS to have surgery! He than went on to become a pro bodybuilder.

As some of you know, I suffered the same injury on March 21, 2006. I had surgery 7 weeks later on May 9, 2006. My doctor only reattached 80% of the tendon (the other 20% was too scarred down to reattach). Even so, if these guys can make successful come backs, so can I.

Anyone else know of any famous people who have had complete pec tears, had surgery, and came back successfully?"

If he really thinks that he tore it, then he needs to get to a doctor. Essentially if the pain hasn't receded within 1-2 weeks, with a LOT of R.I.C.E (rest, ice, compression, elevation), then get to a medical professional. A higher grade strain may require specific medical attention for proper healing. In the short term, recommend to him that he picks up an over the counter arm sling to limit mobility and aid in healing.

And again, if the pain doesn't subside or gets worse over a period of a week or so, get to the doc.

He went immediately to the ER and they put him in a sling there. He's black and blue from his shoulder to halfway down his ribcage. I don't think he's been to a follow-up appointment yet

A torn pec is prob one of the worst injuries I've physically seen happen in person. It happened to a buddy of mine a couple years ago and he was out of the gym for damn near close to 6 months. He was literally purple from his shoulder down as your brother is. That sucks man....I hope he heals quickly.
