Step-Aerobics?

Does anyone here do step-aerobics, either at home or at a class?

I opted out of going to the gym because it's enitrely wayyy to expensive for things I could do at home.

But my Mom has some of those old "Buns and thighs of steel" and "abs and arms of steel" videos and one says about step-aerobics and I was youtubin' some and it looks pretty interesting. And everything I've read about it, it seems to be a highly perferred form of aerobics [especially for women].

So anyone have any experiences with it? Or any "instructional" videos they could recommend to start off with?

:D

Step-aerobics is very sort of 1990's! But I LOVED it and you get a great aerobic work-out. Its no longer given at my gym these days.. I did find a class last year but my knees are just shot for some reason and it was agonizing for me so I had to stop.

hey,

i currently take the step-aerobics class at my gym twice a week, but have actually decided to take it once a week because in my case it's really tough on my knees (i used to be a pro in the step classes when i was in high school , but this is many years and many many pounds later hence the reason its so tough on my knees which is why i'm now going to do it only once a week)...but i absolutely LOVE the class because it gives a good whole body workout for both arms and especially the legs. When i get to a weight i'm more comfortable with i'll be doing much more of it. I'm sure if you check for 'step-aerobics dvd' on something like amazon or google it should bring up some good results. I also have a step at home but i only removed it from the box once to check it was okay ...lol!

I'd suggest you try to look for some more recent releases so that there's good music and moves as well that you can workout too during the session.

Otherwise all the best xoxo.

thank you both!
they don't offer step aerobics around here at the gyms or anything. =(

and omg!! I was lookin up "step aerobic steppers" and wow! are they expensive!!! 40-100$ for a 4" step???

I wonder how I could improvise this w/out falling on my butt ....

i actually bought my step second hand, it cost me only £5! and it was completely new (and i've kept it new hehehe). The step aerobic blocks are usually quite durable so don't feel the pressure to by those super expensive new ones, you can either get one second-hand or on the other hand opt to buy a new one but that is not a 'brand-name'...there's lots of them out there and they are pretty much as good as the real thing.

So far I've checked amazon and ebay...and local newspapers, hmm, I'll check out no name brands and such, see if I can find anything =)

i guess for me it was just a right place at the right time situation, it was in some online classified and i just happened to spot it so got it pretty cheap....i'd suggest just keep a keen eye on the classifieds in the local paper or online etc and hopefully you'll find one....if i could i would have mailed you mine but i'm a whole continent away :(

but don't despair, there's lots of other activities you can do at home. a couple of years ago i got myself some taebo dvd's (which i think is absolutely fantastic) because you work your butt off! and the other i used to like to do was a dvd called 'walk away the pounds' it was basically marching on the spot but with some arm movements and kicks, knee raises etc....so there was the 1mile the 2 mile and so on. But workouts are different for everyone and there's loads of dvd's and outdoor stuff that can be done without having to join the gym so i'm sure you'll do just great.

.

A few months back, my wife got me a stepper box. Its an adjustable Plastic step approx. 16" deep and 2.5' wide. It can be adjusted from 5" to 12" off the ground. This Stepper Box is positioned infront of my large screen TV. During a few favorite TV shows, I'll do 100 steps leading with my right foot. Then, do 100 steps leading with my left foot. Thus, 200 steps in a session. This works for me. Especially when I hold 10 lbs hand weights in each hand at the same time. But... If my body does this exercise more then 5 days per week, my knees start to hurt. Thus, maximum number of Stepper Box sessions is "every other night" for my body (with weak knee joints).

If you can, visit K-Mart, Zellers, Wall Mart or Sears. Think my wife got my stepper box (stepper platform) at one of these stores.

Hope this helps....
