Starvation Mode?

I have a question...
I recently started working out 6 days a week doing 40 mins of cardio every day and some strength training. I lost 8 pounds in two weeks and I have since plateued. It has now been about 3.5-4 weeks since I began and I am still at the 8 pound weight loss mark. I have a feeling that I am not consuming enough calories. I am eating whenever I am hungry but small portions of veggies, fruits, lean meats, etc. Do you think my body is going into starvation mode? I am very tired as well. I am not sure... :(

What is your BMR? Also, everyone will lose fat for a while quickly (give or take) and then they will plateu, and weight-loss will slow down. However, if you are doing enough muscle excerscises, then you will be gaining from from muscle taking over.

Don't be discouraged. I originally lost 5 lbs when I started working out/eating propper - then I plateud (sp) for about a month, then lost 5 more lbs, then plateud again - and now I am down another 3 lbs. Stick with it and educate yourself.

what are you looking to accomplish?
Yes, as crazy as it sounds, sometimes you need to EAT MORE in order to lose fat!
Increased protein will help build muscle tissue which will increase metabolism which will burn fat.
Make sure you are eating breakfast as well, and drink lots of water.
With as much exercise as you are doing, you should definately be eating more.

Hi,

It's probably holding on to the fat because of the discrepancy in your calories. Try upping your calories 100-200 per day, if you're working out hard (even runners have to appropriately feed themselves before/after activity, depending on duration), also are u eating a healthy ratio of protein/carbs/some fats? A fair split possibly of 40/40/20, or 30/50/20? protein for every lb you weight, and your carbs definitely sometime after cardio- just so insulin isn't so low that you go catabolic. You said you were tired? That could be a red flag.

If that doesn't work, try shaking up your routine and change from HIIT to low intensity and switch up again, different routines. Your body adapts to whatever is happening, even when it feels it's starving, it holds onto the fat as fuel when you're feeding yourself below your maintenance.
