Starting over for the last time!

I made a post here about 2 1/2 years ago. At the time I had gone from a whopping 304 pounds to 180 pounds.

Unfortunately, I never was able to keep it all off. I have gained a lot back actually. I'm currently weighing in at 236 pounds!! Thats a gross 56 pounds gained over the years. I think I've had a few factors against me during the past few years. Some my own fault, some I didn't have much control over.

I have a thyroid condition and I do have my ups and downs with it, it seems some months I'll feel great and energetic, then out of the blue I crash and just feel sick most of the time. Currently I'm going through a bad cycle of my hashimotos XD.

I also had mono this past year! That just made me more tired. While I didn't have much of an appetite I didn't really lose weight.

This past month, I broke my foot. The ironic part about that is it happened the day I decided to get active and fit again! I went out roller skating and BAM! I fell on the carpeted part in the skating rink, wound up with a broken foot, on crutches, told to keep off my feet as much as possible! Luckily my weight has been maintained over these past few weeks, give or take a few pounds depending on the day.

Anyway enough about the pity party! I'm ready to get back on track!!!!! I'm super excited, super motivated. Although I'm still in a cast and pretty immobile still, the cast is coming off april 1st and I cannot wait!!

I may need physical therapy after the cast comes off but I'm hoping i can start walking as soon as it comes off. i have an elliptical at home so i'll be doing that too once my foot and muscles around the foot are good to go.

I know food choices have a major role when losing weight. I'm a super picky eater but hopefully I can start making better food choices. I'm also somewhat of a junk food junkie. Any healthy alternatives to junk food?!

Wish me luck guys! I'll probably check in every tuesday so hopefully next tuesday I'll be lower then 236. My ultimate goal is to lose about 1.5 pounds a week, but until the cast is off i'll probably only aim for .5 pounds.

Until the cast comes off, food shopping is a bit difficult. I'm just laying in bed with the dogs thinking of what I should eat.

We have a can of pineapples. But I know if I just eat pineapples I'll probably have some digestive issues (I have them to begin with because I have an intolerance to gluten!) and my stomach is already acting goofy today. I wish white rice was ok to eat, because we have plenty of that! haha.

Last night I talked to my close friend Gloria. I asked her if she would be my support system for losing the weight. She's always there for me, and I know she would help keep me motivated. When the cast comes off we're gonna take walks together at least 2 times a week and on those nights make healthy dinner together.

I decided that by this time next year I want to have lost 80 pounds. That'll bring me to 156 pounds! A number I haven't seen since I was 10 (i am 25)! I'm so excited, I really am!

last post for today haha!
I saw this survey on dania260's diary and wanted to fill it out.

How much weight do you want to lose? 80 pounds

What is the timeframe for reaching your target weight? 12 months

How do you want to accomplish your goal (what methods do you want to use)? I'm going to try to follow a simple diet. Plain chicken, veggies, fruits, and lots of water. Right now my stamina sucks but I want to eventually be able to do the elliptical 5-6 days a week for an hour a day. I'll do some weight training too, 3-4 days a week.

Who or what can support you in reaching your goal? This forum seems like a great support system! I also have my friend gloria who is going to be my motivational coach.

How realistic is your goal? Seems realistic.

When will you start? Today (can't work out until the cast comes off and I finish physical therapy but I can eat right. I read that eating healthy counts for 80% weight loss, not sure if this is true but it's encouraging!)

1. What is your current height and weight? 5'3 and 236 pounds
2. If you were at an ideal weight now, what would that weight be? 140
3. At what weight would you like to be at four months from now? Under 205 pounds

4. Why do you want to lose weight? 1. To feel healthy again! 2. To accept the person under the skin. 3. To be more active. I want to be able to go hiking, and roller skating, and biking, and all sorts of activities.

5. Do you want to lose weight for a specific life event such as wedding or reunion? Well I do want to lose the weight before I get married, even though the boy has yet to propose. We've been together for 4+ years though. We're only waiting for financial reasons

6. What obstacles could get between you and your weight loss goals? Going out with friends to eat out (which is almost a weekly ritual). Hashimotos disease. Gluten allergy. Not staying motivated. Becoming lazy. Not sticking to the meal plan.
7. Why do you think that you now have a weight problem? Because my bmi is over 40. I feel so unhealthy at this weight, it just feels like my body is a giant blob.

8. What lifestyle changes do you think would help you lose weight? Stop overeating. No more junk food. Taking the dogs for walks everyday! Workout routine.

9. Have you lost weight in the past? If so, what has worked in the past to help you lose weight? I went from 304 to 180 but then gained 56 back. I used to play dance dance revolution for 2 hours a day though, don't think I'll be doing that again! I also did weight watchers.

10. Why do you believe that you did not lose weight or you gained the weight back? Theres a few things. My thyroid condition worsened and from feeling tired and sick all the time I stopped working out. I tend to eat better when I am following a workout routine because working out keeps me motivated to eat well. When the working out stopped, my healthy eating did too.

11. What, if anything, has not worked for you in the past in helping you to lose weight? Why do you think it did not work? For about 6 months I decided to stop eating, or I restricted myself from eating over a certain amount of calories. This just made me miserable, and it's one reason why I started to overeat again I think.

12. Would you try writing down all food and drink consumed for a given period of time? I could try. I am bad with that though haha. tweetwhatyoueat.com is an awesome site to do this. It's simple and easy to use.

13. Do you cook at home often? If so, what do you cook? Noooo I suck at this. My boyfriend and i usually just eat out. Although we've cut back on that these past few weeks. I want to learn how to cook healthy meals so my friend and I will be cooking together 2 times a week when i can drive (in about two weeks!! cant wait!)

14. How often do you go out to eat? Where do you go? too often. I goto applebees, famous daves, the dinner (gotta love nj's dinners!) outback steakhouse.... I'm cutting back though!

15. What are your three favorite foods? Junk food junkie over here! I love salt and vinager chips XD. I love ice cream. and I love dr. pepper. I've cut back on these as well though.

16. What are your three favorite restaurants? Applebees. Famous daves. Jiangs (chinese restaurant around here).

17. What are three things you can do differently when it comes to food? Less processed food, less high in carbs/fat/calories foods. Less pop soda and more water!

18. If you woke up tomorrow and your body was exactly the way you want it, what would be different? No lose skin, no stretch marks. No jiggly fat rolls! haha!!! My stomach would be flat, my thighs wouldnt be gigantic. My arms wouldnt have bat wings. My face would not be fat looking, no 1/2 of a double chin (its small)

19. Do you eat when you are not hungry? Usually not. I'll go hours and hours without eating though before I realize I'm hungry, then once I start eating it's like I cant stop, and I can't get satisfied no matter what I eat.

20. Do you binge eat (large amounts at a time)? yup

21. Do you hide your food or eat in secret? Sometimes when eat a lot of food that isn't suppose to be eaten I'll hide the fact that I ate it all. Like say... a bag of chips haha
22. Do you eat when you are sad, nervous, or depressed? yup

23. Do you eat as a reward? no
24. Do you eat while watching TV or using the computer? Yea usually. But alan and I don't have meals at the table, its usually in front of the tv lol.

25. What do you normally eat for a meal? Grilled cheese, chicken nuggets, wawa (convenient store), cereal, chicken, pasta, pizza
26. What type of snacks do you eat? salt and vinegar chips, ice cream, and chocolate.... i suck

27. In terms of exercise, what, if anything, are you currently doing? Nothing! Broken foot, bound to crutches
28. Where do you go for exercise? My house

29. What, if anything, are your three favorite types of exercise? Dance dance revolution, walking, elliptical
30. What is your daily/weekly/monthly/yearly motivation to move towards your goals? All i have to do is look in the mirror, and then look at the before and afters on this website. OMG you people are amazing!
31. Do you have rewards for certain goals? Not really, but I should probably make some. The problem is I'm financially strained right now (our puppy has been sick and has had to undergo a lot of procedures costing my boyfriend and I 5k XD) so maybe once things settle down i'll start doing that.

Hey again Heather! I decided to drop by! :)

Wow, Hashimoto's - do you take medication for it?
what eating habits would benefit this disease, make it a bit better?

Well, since u are in a cast until april 1 and u will not be able to manage you weight for another 2 weeks maybe, u need to focus on attitude toward you health right now. if u haven't dun so u could probably research a few health topics that interest you.

i dont really have any major diseases, anemia... i don't count as anything, so maybe i wouldn't relate well, but the first thing for me to accept was what was good to eat and what i was killing myself with.

i saw a few painful words... ice cream, dr. pepper geeeez. i loved ice cream! now i cant tell you the last time i did... (oh, christmas holidays) its just not something i spend my money on. its hard to break addiction and acquire new taste for good stuff. you need to prolly look up how exactly u are gonna stop eating them

also, here is a site i find useful in keeping track: Fitday.com
and here is an awesome trainer who preps. a lot of videos for us free: Nowloss.com
his name is Adrian :)

C u tomorrow! :)

Hey dania, i do take medicine for it, right now though i am not because i ran out of it haha! im seeing my doctor this coming tuesday for more, so once i get back on my meds i'll start feeling even better!

When you say its hard to break the addiction, you aint kidding! i'm totally addicted to junk food. I've been eating pretty well for the past 3 days and I've already lost some weight! I'm super stoked about that.

Food wise, i've read that avoiding soy and raw veggies is good if you have a thyroid condition. Fortunately for me I'm not a big fan of raw veggies, soy though is in a lot of foods so thats hard sometimes.

Hello!!!

I think comming here is a great step towards your goal, since you have to be off your feet at the moment you should do all the research you can, so that you can improve your weight loss when you can work out, but as a lot of people say when it comes to weight loss nutrition is the number one factor. You did this once before you can do it again!!!

hey guys, im gonna be tracking my food here.

right now my calorie goals for the day are around 1200-1500. Hopefully this is easy to stick with!

I was weighing myself every day. But I think I should stop this. My weight fluctuates a lot, so some days it will be more then the previous day. When that happens I get really upset, although it shouldn't be a big deal. I will only weigh myself on tuesdays for now on (unless I need to weigh in for a challenge).

Ate more yesterday then I did the day before. I ate roughly 1500 calories yesterday, the day before, only 1150. 1500 isn't terrible though. According to a website I need to eat 2300 to maintain, so 1500 is still a 800 calorie deficit. However, I don't trust that website for my own body, since I do have hypothyroidism (hashimoto) im guessing my I should probably eat around 2000 to maintain.

Opinions?

I am a compulsive weight taker. I can’t go one day without taking my weight usually. If I don’t, I’ll seriously just keep thinking about how much my weight is. However, I’ve been doing better. I’ve cut back my weigh ins per day from 20-30+ to 1-2 times a day. Always in the morning, sometimes at night. So thats a little healthier (I really just want to weigh myself once a week, no will power!).

This morning… or should I say afternoon (woke up late) I weighed in 2.6 pounds less then I did yesterday morning! However I am worried that it is because I didn’t eat enough yesterday (only 900 calories, I suck!). I know this is going to be a problem with me, so I am looking forward to getting protein shakes. I’ll have a protein shake for breakfast, a bowl of cereal with fruit, sometimes an egg for lunch, and then usually just chicken cooked in olive oil for dinner with a yogurt or something. I really am not a big eater. I feel kind of dumb. I was in denial for the longest time. “I don’t know why I am not losing and sometimes gaining weight, it must be because I am hypothyroid and my metabolism just sucks.”

Well the truth is… slow metabolism or not, a person can still lose weight. I wasn’t admitting to myself that the food choices I was making were terrible. Chinese food, applebees, mcdonalds, chips, hotdogs, subs, cheesesteaks. I think it’s so hard because I like to eat the foods my boyfriend eats. He gets a super fatty, high in transfat, high in calories, high in carbs meal… I do the same! Not anymore though. The other night he ordered a stromboli, which are extra good from the place we order from. He was asking what I wanted from there. I said “nothing”! No desire, none what so ever. That was a good feeling. I knew the food will taste delicious, and I knew I would have enjoyed it so much, the melted gooey cheese… the soft salty dough… the pineapple and ham I’d have asked them to put in it… and the marinara sauce to give it that extra sweetness… but I knew that eating that stromboli, no matter how much I enjoyed it at the moment of eating, would make me feel extremely guilty afterwards. Not only that but tired! All those unneeded carbs and fats!

So the point is… while something may be very enjoyable for that moment, saying No! left me feeling better about myself as a person. I didn’t need that stomboli. It would not benefit my health in any way, in fact it would sabotage my efforts. This happened like, 3 nights ago and I’m still feeling that sense of accomplishment for saying no. I didn’t win a medal or anything, but it’s still an accomplishment to me.

Quick update:

Lost 5.8 lbs this week. Since it's my first week of eating healthy I'm sure half of it is water weight (I have been drinking about 2 liters of water a day though!).

We'll see how this next week goes. I am aiming for a 1-1.6lb loss.

Had a depressing conversation yesterday. One of my friends innocently thought I look like I weigh 260... I hope it's just them and not anyone else. ugh

I'm following a simple diet too, mostly. I eat cereal in the mornings because its easy and i'll have yogurt here and there. usually eat a hard boiled egg during the day if I'm getting hungry and its not quite time for a meal yet.

I plan on doing the same exact thing for exercise haha. Eventually. Once my foot is up to par.

My support system is my friend Gloria, this forum, and myself. Seems to be working thus far!

Today has been a really stressful day so far.. ugh. Not letting it get the best of me in terms of food though.

Besides my foot being broken, I've been taking care of my dog Sandy, who is under a year old. She has been very sick since the middle of February. I just feel like no matter how much time and effort I put into getting this dog healthy, it's no use. She almost died last month and she is doing better, but it just seems like every day is a struggle. She is a happy puppy, she loves playing. She can't eat without struggling though.

She had to have an emergency surgery to remove a foreign object from her intestines plus needed 6 inches of intestine removed, she was nearly dead when she went in for surgery. Now from the vomiting and perhaps a result from being under anesthesia, her esophagus is having problems. She has a strictured esophagus, basically it narrows and food cant pass, so she just regurgitates it instead. Although she is on a liquid diet, and is able to keep it down most of the time, she still regurgitates a lot. The other day she threw up what looked to be scar tissue. Today while going to the bathroom, she cried and all that passed was a small dark stool. UGH

anyway, this whole thing has left my boyfriend and I very financially strained. I am actually negative 4 dollars in my bank account right now. And not being able to work with a broken foot doesn't help either.

anyway... rant over.

im just surprised I've been doing so well with my eating with all of this going on. It really feels like it's the only thing I have any control over.

Hey congrats on the loss so far! Please tell me you are eating more than an egg for lunch! I would feel dumb too if that was all I was eating!! Hope you get those shakes soon!

What an awesome loss for the week!!

Superb job!!

I also tend to be a compulsive scale jumper... If I think about weighing myself I simply have to actually go get on the scale, hang on one second... :leaving:

SEE!! I had to jump on the scale!!

In other topics, please keep us updated on poor little Sandy!! I am a total animal nut and volunteer for an animal rescue as a foster home, so sometimes in addition to my own 3 dogs and 3 cats I'll have a few extra pups!

I fostered an older dog who had had surgery for intestinal blockage and was on a liquid diet, so I don't envy you all the work or money you're going through to keep the poor baby healthy! Just stick with it, and look into local animal rescue groups or charity vet events... There usually seems to be a way to help needy animals when money is tight!! :D

HAHA no that would be dumb! I have a bowl of cereal for lunch with fruit, sometimes an egg instead. Or if I get hungry between meals I'll eat an egg. Only 1 egg a day though because my cholesterol isn't that great right now.

Lady Foodaholic, sorry I influenced you to weigh yourself! haha.

My dogs are a big part of my life, they are pretty much my kids. When I see them struggling it really makes me sad :( I know she is pass the biggest hurdle in getting better, but I still worry about her so much!

Well I'm glad to say that I didn't let my stressful day effect me as far as being healthy goes. Usually if I were having a bad day I'd ask my boyfriend if he just wanted to run to the store and grab some hoagies, chips, and a diet soda. Instead I took a nap with my pups and when I woke up I felt better.

I even got in enough calories for the day today! This is something I was having a hard time with, most of the time I'd end the day with about 900 calories consumed. I'm looking forward to next tuesday and weigh in day!

Heres the babies.

First one is the sick dog. She's had a rough couple of months but she is in good spirits, she is definitely a fighter!

The second one is both of them, sandy is laying on top of ruby. These dogs bring so much joy to my life. When I'm feeling depressed and down, they never fail to bring a smile to my face.

They are both mini doxies.

My cast should be coming off tomorrow! I am going to start taking the girls for walks at least 2 times a day. Hopefully my foot doesn't take to long to get used to walkingl

I was bad, I weighed myself this morning. I am the same weight I was yesterday morning though so thats good. Hopefully it will go down in a day or two. 74 pounds to go!!!

awww i love th pup pics!! soo cute :)

I really like you're attitude! You have a fair few obstacles but you're not letting them hold you back :) What you said is soooo true - even people with slow metabolisms will lose weight....think i have used this as an excuse too many times!

Well doneon your progress so far :D Do you get your cast off today? You must be mega excited!
