Hi guys,
Iam starting my diet today (september 15th 2010). My current weight is 235 pounds and my target weight is 195 pounds by January 2011. I love alcohol, but from today I have completely stopped it. I have started diets before but have failed but this time Iam determined to achieve my goal.

My diet today:
Breakfast - One cup of hot water with honey and lemon.
One large bowl of Quaker Oats with water.

Lunch - Boiled Pasta with low fat Pasta sauce.

Snack - One big apple or Grape fruit.

Dinner - One bowl of mixed vegetables (spinach, peas, celery, lettuce, carrots etc), 2 pieces of boiled chicken and a glass of V8 veg juice.

Exercise - 1 hour of Resistance exercise.

Water - 3.5 liters through the day.

Iam feeling really healthy and hope to continue the same diet.

Cya tomorrow........:seeya:

Hello fellow Canadian! I hear you on the loving of alcohol...it's not an easy thing to cut out completely. That might be what's stalled my weight loss. I love a good glass of wine or beer. Good luck with your journey- be persistent and it will work!

Welcome! One thing I would suggest to you is to not think of it as a diet, and more as a complete culinary/lifestyle change (that is, unless you plan on eating plain salads, oatmeal, and boiled chicken the rest of your life).

The thing about diets is, once people lose some weight on them (even a little) they tend to get cocky or complacent or bored with the whole process and end up relapsing to gain the weight back with interest. This is how people get caught in the trap of yo-yo dieting.

Also, check your basal metabolic rate and see if you're hitting around 90% of your target calories for the day (I don't know your portions here, but your meals seem a little light). If you cut your calories too drastically at your size, you could slow your metabolism and make it harder to take weight off. I know it sounds counterproductive to eat MORE when you're dieting, but believe me, it really does help move the scale to get adequate calories as long as they are healthy, lowfat ones. Also, it will keep you from getting uncontrollably hungry, which could lead to binge eating.
