Started going to the Gym

Hello, everyone I had recently started going to the gym. My main issue is my stomach & "love handles" area, I want to lose all my stomach fat, and maybe some body fat in other places....and tone the rest of my body up along the way. As of right now I be on the tredmill for about 45 minutes, I do 25 lb Ab crunchs 10reps for about 4-6 sets, 50 lbs Torso rotaion 5 reps / 3 sets; 50 lb Arm Curl 8 reps/ 3 sets; 50 lb Tricep press 10 reps/5 sets ... and I try to focus on my HR, it doesn't go any higher then 168, but every now and then I would slow down to bring down my heart rate.

This is what I've been doing for the past week, this week I want to add more weights and sets to my work outs....I wanted to know what else can I do to loss weight espeacially in the stomach area.

Doing ab exercises is great, but you'll also need to do cardio and have a clean diet in order to lose weight. Unfortunately, you can't pick where the fat comes off, it will come of from all over your body, not just your stomach, no matter what you do.

A combination of weight training, cardio, and a clean diet will work!

I think you should be doing less cardio. Instead, you should be doing resistance training. Resistance training has many benefits. It will help you build more muscle, more muscle will help burn fat in your body. Resistance training will also keep your metabolism elevated for a period of time after your training sessions, Cardio will not.

Ab exercises alone will not give you abs. You need to do deep core activating exercises such as squats, lunges, deadlifts(be careful, bad form will cause injury). But the key to losing abdominal fat is more diet than anything else..

Oops, I missed the part where you said you are doing 45 mins on the treadmill... I think the main things you should focus on are having a clean diet and making sure that you have a whole body resistance training program.

I disagree with Danny on the point that you should be doing less cardio. Yes, your metabolism stays elevated for much longer after resistance training than after cardio, but I can't find any credible evidence that says the number of calories expended post resistance training is significant enough to drop cardio. I also haven't been able to find any credible studies that have found that adding a pound of muscle = huge increases in resting metabolism. Yes, RMR will increase slightly, but how much per pound of muscle? Not much from the studies I've found.

Not saying that the evidence isn't out there, so if it is, let me know! I just haven't seen it yet.

Do big lifts for resistance training like squats, deads, and bench. Hit your larger muscle groups. If you want to do isolation stuff for triceps and biceps and stuff, save those exercises for the end of your routine.

Lift first before cardio if you are gonna do both the same day.

I cannot give you exact studies, but I have read several that talk about the benefits over cardio when it comes to losing weight. If I can dig them up I will let you know. I do not think he should take cardio completely out of his program. I personally believe that resistance training is the best choice for those looking to lose weight.

I'm not trying to get Abs, I just want to lose the stomach fat... The most of the weight is in my stomach area, my goal currently is to lose 80 lbs by this winter.
