Squatting

Yeah I tihnk so.

Obviously it is much harder to hold 200 some pounds in dumbbell weight at your sides than hold it at your shoulders (not saying you squat this much, just an example). You probably won't see as much gains with the dumbbells.

Since I've always done squats with barbells, I cannot personally verify this.

obviosly you can hold more weight with a barbell than with dumbells.
you will probably have to power clean the dumbells to get them to your shoulders(if your not hack squatting)

all it does is change the way you must balance the weight(stabalization). it will most likely decrease the amount of weight you can use.
DB squatting is fine...i think barbell squatting is superiour though.

whether it helps your squat go up or not is based on so many things.
i dont see much reason to intentionally include DB squatting in a program though.
back squat, front squat, bulgarians, OH squatting, lunges should do well. there tons of squatting movements.

Obviously, but does dumbells or barbells make a difference in reaching your goals?
well it depends on what your goals are buddy

So the placement of the load on your body makes a difference?Isn't pushing an extra 200lbs(or whatever you squat) up the same because its added weight?

Well, I imagine your traps and arms work alot more when you hold tihngs at your sides. Also your grip strength wil be tested. The traps arms and grip strength are not used so much when the weight is on your back.
