Sports drink ?

So far I have tried Accelerade and Cytomax.

I like the taste of the Accelerade better but it doesn't seem to mix up as good. It also leaves a lot of foam that takes a long time to settle. It is much harder to wash out than the Cytomax. I can just rinse out the Cytomax but need to use a bottle brush on the Accelerade.

So, the Accelerade tastes better but is more of a pain. The Cytomax mixes up and rinses out better but doesn't taste as good.

Can someone tell which is better or if there is another sports drink that tastes good, mixes up good and is easy to wash out after?

Which one do you use and recommend?

Nobody has an opinion on either of these?
Nobody has any other drink mixes they recommend?

I have since used another flavor of the Accelerade and it seems to mix up better without the foaming. Guess I'll just figure it out myself.

Thanks any way.

He he he! a sports drink? The 60g of sugar in a typical sports drink puts me away from them. Do you drink this sports drink plus water or how do you stay hydrated?

I drink a sip of water from the fountain each time I take a drink of the sports drink. I take a couple of swallows of the drink and wash it down with some water

The sports drink I use only has 20g of sugar per 12oz. The bottle I use is 24oz bottle. It takes me about 2 hours or so to finish it.

It's not like I am trying to lose any weight at the moment but I do have a little fat I'd like to get rid of. The fat is going away slowly but surely.

What I really want to know though is do these things help or not. My workout takes about 2 hours total and I feel like it's a good idea to have an enerby boost but don't know if the two drinks I mentioned in this thread help or if I'm just wasting my money and water would be just as good or not.

I have never used sports drinks before I started working out a few months ago even when I went on longer rides on the bike. If I can save myself 20 bucks a month then I would like some feed back on that sort of stuff.

You shouldn't be trying to lose weight, but you should be losing fat. You have to eliminate/reduce your consumption of simple carbs/sugars. This is basic knowledge, haven't you read the stickies around the forum?

I have read so much in the last few months it makes me dizzy. I also read an article which seemed to make sense saying that you need to feed your body during workoust even if you're trying to shed fat. The article gave several studies and references that validate this.

No one that has posted in this thread has answered the question I have asked yet.

Which of the two drinks I mention here is better or is there one that is better than either? I am willing to look at something that doesn't contain sugar if any one can name one that would work.

Where is this article that says you should have simple sugar while working out? You probably live in America where a majority of the people are obese. There is no nutrition writer worth his salt who would be telling people to have sugar during workouts, next you will be having idiots telling us its okay to eat a hamburger on the treadmill.

Where in my post do I mention simple sugar? I will try to find the article again but have not been able to.

Blackbeard, if you’re such a fan of the ‘101’ style sticky then here goes, nice and slow for you.
When you train, your body uses it's glycogen stores as fuel, when those stores get low your performance drops which in turn leads to poor returns and energy expenditure. Simple carbs like Glucose are closer in structure to glycogen than complex carbs so provide a more immediate source of fuel which is why they are added to sports drinks. This enables you to refuel your body faster and maintain your level of training for longer. This has more of a beneficial long term effect than avoiding the sugar and having decreased performance levels.

And BTW, what’s with the America bashing? And why bother to lay into a new member like that? Does it make you feel better about yourself?

I usually hate the posting of study abstracts but I think this one is justified:

So this guy is trying to reduce his body fat and get stronger and you are posting articles on carb intake and exercise performance? How many articles have you seen by writers of the calibre of Lyle McDonald, Poliquin, Aragon telling people to do that?

Marathon runners carb up for events but does this mean you should be stuffing yourself silly with carbs when you are not running a marathon? Don't one's goals dictate the course of action someone should be taking?

Maybe I've missed something in a different thread but this guy says nothing about strength gain or fat loss being his goals. He said he could with losing a little fat be he is successfully managing to do that already.
He does however mention his workouts lasting up to 2 hours and if cardio is making up much of that time then carb replacement sounds like a vital process.

Either way, the poor guy only asked about favourite brands of a drink and you hit him right between the eyes with an accusation of making up an article

This is what the guy posted in this forum:-

Feel free to look up his posts in the Weight training forum, I read them at the time of this post. I stand by my original assertions. I have read stuff on Body Recmposition from Lyle McDonald and other esteemed writers and there is no mention of taking an sports/energy drink between your workout to assist in your fat loss.

Have you seen this guys diet and nutrition log to say that an energy drink will assist him in his goals? Have you seen his workout and what advice he decided to take on board? I would like to see the article he mentions and the context it was written in. You quoted a pubmed study on performance not on carbs intra-workout assisting with fat-loss.

Carb-cyling has served me well and my workout last up to 2 hours. If I was looking to drop body fat to a bodybuilder's level then I would look at the V-diet or keto. However there is no way I could say that an energy drink would help me in my fat loss goals.

There is no article and you are evidently unaware of the simple sugars in cola or your sports drink.

Here's the article that you say does not exist. Why do you keep bringing up simple sugar? I have not mentioned it once.

I will ask the question again. Out of the two drinks I mentioned which is best, Cytomax or Acelerade? Do you have one that is better than either of these. That should be simple enough for you to understand.

Once again, my goal is not fat loss. My goal is endurance. If I lose some fat on the way so be it.
