Spinning/Cycling classes

I have started cycling classes today, and I really enjoyed the workout. I'm excited to find something I enjoy, even though my butt feels like it'll never be the same (that's the goal anyway, isn't it?).

My question is: How effective is spinning? My Polar heart rate monitor says I burned 731 calories in an hour workout. Is that even possible? My trainer says it is, but WOW!

Also, i'm planning on doing that five days/week, as well as weight training classes 2-3 days a week. Right now I'm focusing on endurance and weight loss. Anything I should be doing that I'm not aware of?

Hi! I have gone to 4 or 5 spinning classes in the past week, and I love them too. Yeah apparently the classes burn off an insane amount of calories. Your butt will totally get used to it, I'd say by the fourth class you'll feel fine. I'm not sure about how effective it is, I visited spinning.com for information, but I know that it is awesome cardio. My legs feel it the next day, as long as you really push yourself hard especially on jumps, climbs, and hovers!

Does anyone know what the name of that at-home spin class DVD program is? I saw an informercial for it a week or so ago and haven't been able to find it anywhere.

Everyday, I find myself able to do more and more in my classes...it's great! I'm also burning more calories (usually about 1200-1450 each class!!!!). I feel a lot better about myself and have more energy. I didn't get to work out Sunday because it's my trainer-prescribed day o' rest, and I was grumpy all day. I'm becoming a spinning slut because I've started trying out different instructors; each has a different style of training, and it's mixed up the routine a lot...I like it!

Jolie I definitely agree. I attend 3 different instructors' spinning courses and I'm amazed at how different I feel after each one! Different music, different intensity, but it all makes me work really hard. I love spinning now I can't imagine not doing it, I'm so excited because it does burn tons of cals and I feel it every single morning. Dude I love spinning. I'm repetitive...but I think it's fabulous.

I wonder if the YMCA has a class like that?Sounds like something I need and you make it sound enjoyable to.Thats my problem finding something I enjoy so far walking and swimming is the most enjoyable exersice so far.I am going to check into cycling/spinning classes.Tammy

Awesome! A friend came with me to class today to support me and she absolutely loved it, too. So much that she is coming with me again on Thursday! I am pumped to be involved in something with such great benefits and that is so much fun. Another friend is coming tomorrow and is very excited because it's a great exercise for pregnant women (which she is, about 5 months!). The instructor has said she'll let her know about the few things that she should watch out for, but that she taught classes until she was about to have her daughter.

Yay SPINNING!
