Speeding Metabolism

I've been reading up on ways of keeping metabolism up. Been reading time and again that lots of water is key, and eating often but light is also important. Anybody have any other tips or suggestions? What have you found works for you? Or is there anything that you've found to be a myth or counterproductive? Thanks.

They say eating breakfast will speed it up, also, eating spicey things should as well. I joke with my hubby that to get ultimate results, I should put chili seasoning on my cheerios, lol.

hmmm, that's a thought ... i'll give it a try and get back to u ... hopefully the chili on an empty stomach doesn't give me too much gas :D

green tea. i take a daily vitamin that has green tea extract in it.

It seems like every time I drink or take weight smart viatamins (has green tea in it) when I work out I get light headed and feel funny. Does this happen to anyone else or am I just crazy.

I was thinking of drinking green tea at night so that I'm not going to exercise...but is tha defeating the purpose.

Also how do you guys make your green tea taste better...sugar, honey...???

you dont have to drink the plain yucky green tea, there are different flavors. they have them at the grocery store. my fav is mango :)

i also bought these green tea capsules to take when i dont feel like drinkin the tea but they make me vomit if i havent eaten

in the orange juice section of the supermarket they also sell diet green ice tea. it tastes pretty good if ya want to switch to that when summer comes.

chunky, it doesnt matter when you drink the tea. night or day is fine. i take those weight smart vitamins too but no strange effects. my trimspa on the other hand makes the room go black when i stand up suddenly. i figure it has to be that because when i went off of it for a month, i was fine.

i can't stand tea, so i take the pills, I read they make wonderwoman sick, but they do not have that effect on me. I guess you can just try and see how it works for you.

I think that the better way to speed up your metabolism are 5-6 small meals per day. A doctor told me that metabolism is like fireplace, you must keep the fire up all the time. I lost 35 kilos with 6 meals and I still go on.

Im wondering Dora, what do you have for the six meals? Personally I have trouble finding snacks to eat other some Apples..... I tried eating more frequently but my dorm room is barren in terms of snacks.... Also add to the fact that I dont have a car certainly immobolizes me to goto the market frequently...

When I say 6 meals I mean that a fruit is also a meal/snack. I use fruits very much as I am out of sugar completely (sugar/dextroze/maltoze/glucose e.t.c.). It is trigger food for me. Some days when I am hungry I eat 4-5 fruits most of them as snack. I prefer oranges now because is the best season in Greece for oranges. They are juice, sweet and contain much fiber.

You can also watch my diary (Dora's diary) that I post every day my eating. Sometimes snack for me is also coffee that I drink with a quantity of milk special for my colesterol (contains omega). I also use krispies that they are small rusks without any kind of sugar. I count calories on Fitday.

I bought a book of calories for Greek food and I passed in custom foods as many of them are not included in Fitday. I am watching fat very much not only for weghting loss but for colesterol purposes.

Finishing I would like to add that although we can push metabolism somehow, we must be honest: it takes time. As all of us know we didn't gain all the weight in one day or one week or one month. We must offer to our body at least half time of gaining to loose weight.

I try to eat a variety of snacks too.... try raisins (especially handy are the litle boxes), peanut butter on celery sticks, granola bars, popcorn, any fruits, energy bars, etc. I try to eat about 300 calories at each of my regular meals, and 200 calories at my snacks after breakfast and after lunch. It works out pretty well, and i too have seen great results so far.
