spark people....

is really annoying to me.

There's no continuity in the message board. I can't even see what threads I've posted in. And active threads are drowned in a sea of useless banter rather quick.

And it seems as if everyone wants to put in their 2 cents, even if it's identical to the 2 cents that was offered in the post right before.

you can get to your old posts from the start page - and choose See more of my recent posts...

but yeah -their message boards suck -their search engine sucks - it's he same posts over and over and over again... and there's no merging of posts that is done to keep the same topic together.

or go toyour page and check recent message board posts button thingie :)

makes it easy for me to stalk you :)

i want to get into it with one of their 'coaches' or whatever they call them....

see how versed they are.

but it seems i can never catch up with one or i lose my post.

i'll try finding my posts that way though, thanks

They do answer messages...

Becky the nutritionist tends to give pretty sound advice

their articles are pretty well done and wellresearched... if people are willing to exert a little effort they can generally find the info they are looking for

there's one coach, who is a recovering anorexic Nicole I think her name is-that is not always on target but tries hard.. ad dean, the older guy whos got all sorts of degrees i psychology gives pretty good advice...

but they have a huge audience and their advic is very generic...

there are some wonderfully crabtastic people though - I used to think I was fairly pleasant on line - unless I'm arguing something I'm passionate about -and I've gotten a bunch of nastygrams from people telling me I'm not very nice...

then again I did get called arrogant here so maybe thre's something to it :D

they get the same thing we find a lot of here -- on a much broader scale -whre someone has lost 10lbs and all of a sudden they are an expert :D

there are a few members who's debating skills are quite lacking, but feel the need to always be right... you might find yourself bored easily with them...

I've tried many times to get used to sparkpeople. I always make my page and all that crap, but thats as far as I get, I just can't seem to mingle very well and I don't get to know anyone there, its just too big.

any commercial site will have the same issue - you have that here as well- there are teams a nd challenges you can join to find your own niche...

wow, i feel terrible for the people who get their advice/info from that message board, which seems to be a lot.

they don't know what they're missing out on, speaking of this place

There are an awful lot of people on that site, a pretty damn high percentage from what I can see - that are'n't quite "ready" to make the change... and the readiness has to come from them -

I can't tell you how many posts I read about people begging for motivation...

and there's desperate people who want to to be told what they want to hear... or something like that - tehy want to be told "it's OK" do what you want...

There is good info on that site, ad I do believe it's a useful tool -but it's up to the person using the tools to make it work for them... the message boards - kinda suck...

See, thats one thing I don't understand is people asking for motivation. Thats crazy. Motivation can only come from within yourself. I can't hand it to someone. I wish I could hand it to myself somedays, lol

But really, what are people really asking for when they ask for motivation? What are we supposed to say to them??

I agree that the message board formats suck. But I am part of a couple of teams and made some friends there. I like the tracking utilities better than FitDay for some reason - maybe it's just because I got used to the way Spark does it. I tried FitDay and just didn't like it as well.

I don't participate much on the general message boards for all the reasons already listed, but if you can find a specific group, it's good. There are debate groups - or you can start your own and invite some folks to join. The coaches may actually enjoy that :)

God Bless,
mik

I agree that the message boards are in sorry shape. The articles are good. A few of the teams are good and have decent message boards exclusive of the general audience.

I do use the nutrition and exercise tracker daily. I have used them for over a year and it made all the difference in my weightloss and lifestyle change. The recipe calculator has been a major benefit too.

My experience with Sparkpeople has been positive but then I didn't use it as a support system or motivational tool.

I'm speaking strictly of the message boards. I haven't ventured elsewhere, and I believe they have good articles, tools, etc.

But I only joined for the message board and it flat out sucks.

I think some of the problem is that you get points (still haven't figured out what the heck they really are for other than some decoration) every time you post to the message boards. So everyone in the world wants to chime in to rack up the numbers, whether or not they actually have knowledge.

I enjoy the calorie tracker & some of the articles, but am unimpressed with most of the other stuff.

She's emailing me left and right now.....

I'd say some mean ass stuff about her and her close-mindedness, but who knows if she ventures over here.

Admittedly, I've let her distort my image of the community so far. Why wouldn't the experts step in and shut her up? Unless they buy this stupid crap too.
