SOS in the cupboard and fridge

Please help me write my shopping list for the week....

I know of course I need veggies and chicken.

I wrote in my journal that I get hungry very easily and thats why i have trouble sticking to my diet. So I definitely need fillers. Someone suggested drinking a glass of fat free milk when I am hongree...that sounds good.

Anyway...what are some food items that a dieter/healthy styler cant live without?

I am not much in the kitchen..well I can cook..I just hate it..so I thought about buying some of those veggie steam bags...cutting up my veggies and portioning them in there so when i get up i can just grab that for lunch...with some chicken or tuna or fish....

Thanks

If you check the nutrition forum - you'll find a few varied shopping lists..

BUT keep in mind - what works for one -- might not appeal you your tastes.

Grocery shopping shouldn't be SOS worthy - plan your meals around what you like and grocery shop accordingly -There's no magic food that will make you lose weight... It's about portion control

thank you,

i do know there is no magic food to help me lose weight. maybe you misunderstood what I was asking. I was asking for some suggestions on fillers other than veggies that would help me get through those times when i am really hungry.

this thread willgive you a start and contains links to other threads as well

http://weight-loss.fitness.com/topic/25259-what-eat-go.html

But it comes down to what you like and will eat is what helps in the long run.. anything can be a snack...

When you're cooking dinner - and that dinner is chicken breasts, fish, anything really -cook some extra and leave it in baggies in the fridge for snacks later.

Ziplock snack size baggies are really a great tool - and the planing ahead - but the veggies and cut them up as soon as you're home from the store- that way when the snack attack hits -you've got no reason to not reach for something healthier.. .because you've thought ahead and have it ready to go..

Raw unsalted almonds. High in fiber, good fats, some protein, lots of minerals. It's a lot harder to go overboard with them than with the salty kind.

Frozen fruit (raspberries, mango, sweet cherries) are on my list - I'll put them over cottage cheese or oatmeal or rice pudding.

i am finding that if i get hungry i drink a cup of chicken or beef bouillion and it seems to help..................especially beef....dunno...just workin it out

rice pudding ..really..damn i love rice pudding...

I've started using those green bags for veggies so they last a bit longer, as well as buying frozen. Same with fruit. "keepasecret" told me she uses those steam bags to cook not only veggies but her chicken too and it comes out great...if do a search with her name and go to her diary she has some recipes and one for a jello smoothie that's low cal.

That's another thing you can do...make up jello or have some sugar free jello cups on hand. Also it helps to keep a few low-cal frozen dinners in the freezer as back up hectic I can fix one fast. I used to cook up a bunch of rice ahead and then I can toss some chicken and veggies into it fast for lunch. I just now remembered I used to do that, gonna have to write a note to MYSELF on that one, lol.

There's alot of healthy stuff you can throw in a crockpot and walk away from too. Of course I just noticed I'm posting this is a few weeks late on your shopping trip, how'd it go? lol

Thanks DKJello

It has been going really really well. Even the hubby is actually grocery shopping better. He went and bought some fresh veggies for me and some salmon which i did on the george foreman...with just some spices...boy it was good....

Sometimes I will do boneless chicken breast in the crockpot on sunday and have that for my lunches the rest of the week. I dont like the flavor as much as baked but it is still good.

I am happy to say it is going really well.....I have a baby shower tomorrow...we'll see

I haven't had a problem at baby showers in a while. For one I want to have a baby so it's an in my face reminder of just one more reason why I'm trying to lose weight when I'm at one. But on the funny side every one I've been to has done that nasty melted candybar in a diaper thing where you are supposed to figure out what candybar it is. Stupid I know but it makes me gag and I have to opt out and look away...especially when there's a nutty candybar in a diaper....gag! LOL What's funny is I can handle changing a real diaper no problem...but then I guess it's not while I have a plate of food in front of me either.

i will just not participate in the chocopoo game..... :)

Glad I'm not the only one, lol. If I ever get to have my own baby shower we are SO not playing that game! Well...unless we make it co-ed and the men have to do it :X

Ohhhhhh we did that game at a girlfriend's baby shower. She jokingly licked it, just as her other young son, came up the stairs. He was HORRIFIED and quite disgusted, lol. (she didn't know he was there) icky game... but funny...lol

The nice thing about the sugar free jello, is that it also counts towards your fluid intake. For myself, my most successful weight loss happened when I kept cooked eggwhites in the fridge ( I actually like them) or cooked chicken (like suggested by maleficent) I keep small one ounce portions in the fridge and it helps my hunger pang without putting me over the edge with calories
I am in the process of getting myself better organized and prepared so that I have those snacks available, instead of unhealthy alternatives. Its amazing how much work it takes to eat healthy, but so worth it, and I imagine it gets a easier..lol (hope)
BTW: Thanks for stopping in and being so supportive in my diary...Michelle

chocopoo game..

plus i wouldnt know how to enter that in my journal...

it would be like

1 cup cheerios
1 cup skim milk

1 apple

1 lick of chocopoo.....

etc..

doesnt sound right to me..

-------------------------------

okay, cooked egg whites??? i need more info here...like you just keep them in a container and snack on them????

You are too funny, lol.
I boil up some eggs, and pop out the yolk (only cuz i have to watch my cholesterol...and i hate yolks unless they are scrambled..lol) The whites, I just put in a ziplock and when i need something extra. It seems to curb my appetite a bit better. Its not everyone's cup of tea..lol...but i actually like them... so it works for me. Thats what its all about, finding things that fit into your life.
Take Care

Fibre is filling, dahling, any way you can get it. For me its bran and lots of veggies and sometimes a delcious bowl of oatmeal which is filling for the calories (143 per cup plus what you put on it).

I eat diet jello everynight its my treat and my nails look really good!

Welcome to the forum

okay i had one of those yoplait yogurts with fiber today...um..they um...give ya some gas...just givin yall the 4-1-1 so you dont eat those before a hot date or before an important meeting or anything...
