Sooo confused...please help!!

I am 5"5' and about 153 pounds. I have gained 20 pounds in the last year due to binge eating. However, I have not binged all summer. I have worked out almost daily for the last three years but i was still consuming more calories than I could ever burn off. During the past three weeks I have been watching what I eat....about 1600-1800 calories a day. I have been going to the gym every morning before work and doing the elliptical and ab work for an hour and then doing another hour of cardio strength training after work. I am averaging burning about 1000 calories working out everyday. However...I have not lost a pound....in fact I have gained 2!! I almost cried today when I weighed myself. I have been working soo hard to lose this extra weight I have gained but I dont know what else to do???
If anyone has any advice or experince please help me..I will appreciate anything!
Thanks!

details make the difference for me

It sounds like you're doing all the right things. The only adjustment that I can suggest is to time your meals/snacks to be about 250-300 calories every 2.5 to 3 hours apart - to keep your metabolism up. Good luck!

I am not an expert but the 2 pounds you put on is probably muscle. Two hours a day working out sounds like too much. I have always been told 30 minutes to an hour is sufficient. Hopefully someone else who is more knowledgable about this will post. Good luck to you.

I know exactly what you are going through. I am in the same spot you are. 1 month of doing everything right and NOTHING!!!! I am so aggrevated and I look in the mirror to see me in what I believe is the worst shape ever.
I'm obviously not one to take advice from, but don't give up. I'm trying not to.;)

keep your head up, Pen and Daisy! It is a big shock to your body to all of sudden through it into a new and INTENSE work out routine. Your body will not react right away the way that you want it too because its going into shock, if you will. I notice that when I get all motivated and just jump right into a routine, I dont' notice a change for a while, then all of a sudden I drop a lot of weight. Its weird, but thats how my body works. Just give it time, and dont strain your body! That 2 hours of cardio may be too much. It would be better if you did that cardio in the morning and get your cardio up then go back and do weights in the evening. its the lifting/cardio combo that really does the job! Good luck!

You might could try calculating what your BMR is (basal metobolic rate). That will tell you how many calories your body needs to sustain, then subtract about 500 from that number to get a healthy weight loss. It might be that you are not consuming the right amount of calories (too many or too few). I would knock out a little cardio, and ad in some strength training. A balanced workout is usually the most effective.

Also, if you've had a history of binge eating, your metabolism might be a little cockeyed for a while. It might be that your body is adjusting itself, ya know?

Edited to add - Here is the Harris Benedict equation for determining BMR. It's not the only one out there, but one of the most popular. Multiply inches by 2.54 to get cm, and multiply pounds by .4535924 to get kg.

Women = 655 + (9.6 x weight in kg) + (1.8 x height in cm) - (4.7 x age)

Then take the number you get and multiply it by one of the following according to your activity level...

Sedentary 1.2
Lightly active (light exercise 1-3 times a week) 1.375
Moderately active (moderate exercise 3-5 times a week) 1.550
Very active (hard exercise 6-7 times a week) 1.725
Extra active (very hard exercise/physical job) 1.9

Subtract 500 calories from that number and you will get how many calories you should eat to lose weight.
