Somewhat Confused...

Here is my dillemma... I have always grown up very active playing highly competitive sports. After college I got a desk job but was still determined to stay active. Obviously it was difficult to keep the same intensity of activity going and I have slacked a bit but not too bad. I have gone in about 3 years from a low weight of 185 to around 210 now and I am 6'. A few months ago I have been really determined to get my weight down. I run almost every other day at a high intensity. I havent been doing too much weight training yet as I am hoping that my cardio will lose some of this "surface fat" and then I can start building my muscles although I already have a naturally bigger build.

My issue is that I really havent lost anything. I also can fluctuate in weight of about 5 lbs from day to day (very weird). I feel like I have very good athetlic ability but my body refuses to shed pounds. People may say its the diet, but I dont eat poorly. No processed foods, usually whole grains, lean proteins, fruits and vegetables. I do not overeat as well. Any help would be awesome in building out a more effective plan. Maybe a more strict diet?

Um, need a lot more details on your diet and exercise program to make suggestions, but a few thoughts come to mind:

1. you should think of trying to loose fat not weight
2. to maximize fat loss, avoid staches (bread, pasta, potatoes, etc.) and focus on lean meats, healthy fats, fruits and vegetables
3. my weight fluctuates 5-10 pounds through the course of a day, lowest first thing in the morning aftrer my constittional and highest after the last meal of the day and depends on how much water I drink during the course of the day, etc. Be sure to weight yourself at exactly the same time every day, to get an accurate picture of the chnage from the previous day. Of course, if you are trying to loose fat and not weight, who realy cares how much you weigh, anyways. Unfortunately, it is very difficult to measure body fat accurately, so most poeple depend on the scale for a progress measure.
4. start strenght training immediately, lean muscle burns fat! The hormonal changes caused by strength training burn more fat (after exercise, not during) than cardio type exercise. In fact too much cardio at too high an intensity level can actually cause your body to try to store more fat (to fuel the next cardio session).

I'm totally going to say never watch your body weight.
Its just atmospheric pressure.

Look at yourself,
Watch for a change,
it will come.

You may weigh the same for 4 months,
but ifyour being true to yourself,
you will SEE a difference.

Sincerely,
Wilhelm.
