It's probably not medical, but if it's a concern for you, and if you have joint issues and other health problems, definitely get your butt to a doctor and get treatment...

How many calories a day are you taking in? eating healthy means little if you're taking in too many calories.

Get an account at and for a minimum of one week enter EVERYTHING that you put in your mouth - accurately weigh and measure all food you eat and see where you are calories wise

yes i have been to doctors and i have lupus .....for five years now...they do not allow me the weight training....

Are you on medications for the lupus? Some of the steriods I believe make you gain weight.

Track your calories for a few days and let us know how many calories you tend to get in an average day.

Do you walk for your normal life activities like going to work or the store? If you drive everywhere than you're really just getting 37 minutes and nothing else. I live in a walking city, so I walk at least 30 minutes in a day just getting around, plus I usually try to exercise extra as well. So the exercise you're getting just may not be enough for someone your height and age.

thank you blancita.....
well yes iam on prednisone but 2 mgs i used to be on 80 at one point so 2 mgs is just maintence dose.....as far as working i do not ....and i do atleast 2 hours house work a day plus my exercise.....i do not walk alot because when its cold i have circulatuion problems and in the summer cannot be in the sun .... i opened an account on fit something do not really know yet how to use well, but this is recent i always did the same ,ate the same ,and lost alot weigt but now i keep gaining why now .......

Hey, I'm new here too, just read ur msg, im really sorry u feel so frustrated. My friend was diagnosed with lupus after giving birth to her son, she was under wiehgt and started taking the steroids they prescribed. It then turned out she didnt have lupus but had been showing some of its symptoms. Point being she really put on weight, but shes back to her average weight now. I work in a lab where we produce corticosteroids like prednisone and understand ur priority to take these medications :) y not try going to a nutritionist so they can check your blood type and suggest a diet thats specifically for you? They tell you what is best for you and what to avoid taking. For example blood type A cannot eat meat as this is stored as fat. Goodluck xxx

Btw I'm 26 and used to loose a lot of weight when I was younger with the same exercises I do nowadays, but since our metabolism slows down as we grow up, we need to adjust to a more appropriate diet than when we were younger, hope this helps take care!

the blood type has been around as nothing more than a fad diet and not a lot of truth to it -Health Magazine's diet guide had this to say about it.

Most health experts would agree with D’Adamo that a “one size fits all” approach to dieting is wrong—but few would say that a plan based on blood type is the answer. In fact, there’s no science to support the strategy.

Chances are meat-loving Type AB dieters will see through the hocus-pocus pretty quickly since, according to the regimen, they should dine on tofu rather than steak. For others, the unique approach might sound promising at first, but chances are it’ll end up being a big headache.

Does the diet take and keep weight off? No clinical data. D’Adamo offers anecdotal evidence that the diet “works for 9 out of 10 people.” But it’s unclear if by “works” he means a drop in pounds or an improvement in overall health.

Is the diet healthy? Debatable. There’s no concrete meal plan here to evaluate. Dieters will be choosing and avoiding foods based on lists. They could choose wisely, but they could just as easily choose poorly.

What do the experts say? “We all have individual needs, but basing what you eat on blood type is ridiculous,” says registered dietitian Jane Kirby, author of Dieting for Dummies (Wiley, second edition, 2003). Edee Hogan, RD, a nutrition and culinary consultant in Washington, D.C., agrees: “There’s no indication that blood type has anything to do with anything other than blood type. Your basic nutrition needs are the same whether you’re A-positive or B-negative.”

Who should consider the diet? Nobody.
Bottom Line: Don't bother.

blood type

I suggested a nutritionist since medication is being taken and we are not doctors :\ I read no where that blood type A are meat loving or that blood type O, who are meat lovers, should eat tofu instead of meat.. I'm wondering where you got that wrong information.. obviously you should inform yourself better (I'm referring to Eat right for your type) instead of reading articles only. Blood type A are described as being vegeterians because they do not produce sufficient acid in their stomachs to digest meat so it ends up as fat. It is mentioned that it should be avoided not never to eat meat. As for blood type O, they are advised in this book to eat meat because of the large amounts of acid they have and to avoid wheat etc. not vegetables. All I can say is that I've tried it and it works for me, but if you are trying to imply that its some type of marketing by nutritionists I never went to a nutritionist, but I'm not going to disregard a logical and scientific theory just because some conventional doctor says so ;)

Also I am blood type A and love meat.. but must admit that sometimes it disgusts me and I have mixed feelings towards it. Other times I'm satisfied after 2 bites of a good T-bone steak, other times I eat it whole. But I know that meat is the problem in my case, since I have a slow metabolism and I beleive that the meat I eat goes as fat, since I have been avoiding meat I lost weight, as I have increased the intake of sweets and bread and conventionally these are the biggest sins. As you have read, no diet is the same for everyone. But the article you read is contradicting itself, as a diet based on blood type is different for everyone. Whilst the diet a nutritionist suggests is based on the level of cholesterol a person has and other factors. I dont even know if a nutritionist takes into consideration blood type.
