Some nagging thoughts

As I was reading through some of the newb postings, I saw posts not dis-similar to my own past ideologies...get back into exercise and eating healthy, shed a few-20-30 lbs, hit some form of a roadblock whether it be via plateau or some other form of life 'getting in the way' and then gain weight and start the process all over again.

I guess what I'm trying to say here is that I need to make this healty lifestyle a part of a daily regimen, just like brushing my teeth, showering or putting on my face :D...although I don't wear make up daily. .hmm. so I guess there are still going to be some kinks and things that pop up.

I have never really been one to choose the trendy diets of the years, but try to take an approach of low fat, low cal and exercise, however, it hasn't seemed to stick. I guess it's just as well that I don't have any children since I am not the best role model as far as healthy eating and fitness are concerned. I'm hoping this is the time to change things around.

I'm really interested in 5K runs and have thought about (yes that's as far as I have really made it) signing up for one in the coming months in hopes that that too will be some more inspiration to get fit and healthy. I will be heading out to a cabin hopefully for some snow skiing, and hitting an indoor pool & hot tub with 2 other couples the 1st of March and am hoping to reach my first goal or even surpass it by that time.

Any words of encouragement or wisdom etc would greatly be appreciated.

Didnt' someone once say that if you do something 21 times, it becomes a habit? I totally think that's true. It's worked for me. After almost 6 months, I find that even when I give myself permission to have an off night and eat a fattening supper, I automatically make it slightly healthier, take less, etc.

And the 5k run goal is awesome. I wish I had something like that here to shoot for, but I'll stick to my bikini goal. ;)

5K's are very fun races and include runners and exercise enthusiasts of all shapes and sizes. Everyday is a new opportunity to live your life and meet your goals. Best of luck.

I think most of us have done the "cycle" before -break the diet, give up, put weight back on, and start back at the beginning. And hitting a plateaus can be really disheartening (I am sort of stuck at one right now!) but you just have to be so determined that you work past it.

It is taking me a REALLY long time to break my bad eating habits -because the way you think isn't an easy thing to change at all. But I think (and hope!) that it's just a case of keeping at it long and hard until you DO.

I think to be honest there will ALWAYS be times I go to grab something I shouldn't/don't need to eat without thinking, but I am hoping that I will always be sensible enough to stop myself, especially once I'm a weight I'm happy with. (Staying that way will be big motivation for me I think.)

I can't say I share your enthusiasm for long runs but maybe you could make one a goal, and make all your efforts a countdown to getting there? :)

if you're interested in 5k runs -- coolrunning's website has a pretty good plan (from what ive been told) frm going to the couch to running a 5K... I've thought about it - and that's as far as i've gotten but 25 more lbs and i'll do more than think about it.. Google "from couch to 5K" for the plan.

21 days of doing something - -or not doing it does build a habit - as I look at my fingernails that for the first time in my life i've managed to not bite ad grow long enough too have an actual manicure... just take youor plan day by day and you'll get there..
